Darkness and Light!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🤎🖤💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 😠😘🤓😍
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The Hero: Tristan - He is the new owner of Vamps nightclub. This book takes place a year after the previous book and the fire at Vamps. Tristan comes from Salem, Mass and his ancestors are witches and he believes he is cursed, so he stays away from humans despite the fact that he owns the club. He spends most of his time in his lab below the club.

The heroine: Maya - she is the best friend to Nike from Smolder and is also a firefighter who used to spend her free time at the underground nightclub, Vamps. She used to go there with Nike, but stopped when Nike left town and she decides to go back to the club at Halloween a year later.

The Story: Tristan decides to come up from his lab on Halloween to check out the club. He has trouble spending much time in the club because darkness surrounds most people and it drains him to no end. When suddenly he sees a beautiful woman who is surrounded by light. He sees pain in her, and where others’ pain usually drains him, he feels compassion for hers.

This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration, unlike the first two books. I like dual narration so much more than solo narration, so I was happy for the change. It was narrated by Amber Lee Connors and Kieran Flitton. Kieran has a soft but masculine voice which is very pleasant and Amber has a youthful feminine voice that is easy to listen to.

This book is more fleshed out than the previous two books, it didn’t seem to go by so fast and the story was original and interesting. The romance wasn’t as rushed as the last book, it was on a more normal pace with both characters holding things back at the beginning and not completely understanding their connection. The only thing I didn’t like about this one was the amount of time Tristan and Mia spent feeling sorry for themselves.

FIRE (Underground Encounters Book 2) by Lisa Carlisle is HOT!

I am very glad I continued on in this paranormal romance series, even though the first novella in the series had a few problems for me. This story begins a year after the fire at Vamps and follows Maya. It can easily be read as a standalone, even though it does bring characters from the first novella back.

Maya Winters is missing her best friend and decides Halloween is the perfect time to return to Vamps and blow off some steam dancing after a long shift working as a firefighter. As she is dancing away to her favorite tunes, she suddenly feels eyes on her. When she sees the tall, dark and brooding bad boy staring at her she feels an instant attraction.

Tristan Stone is the new, mysterious owner of the rebuilt Vamps. Tristan is from a long line of Salem witches. He stays away from people due to what he considers his curse, because he has only ever been able to see darkness around people and it drains him. When he comes up from his underground lab beneath the club one day to check on things, he immediately spots a woman dancing because of the brilliant light surrounding her. This has never happened before and he has to find out why she is different.

Maya and Tristan combust when they are together. The two opposites are light to dark and outgoing to cautious. Tristan thinks Maya may be the answer to his curse, but he has never told anyone about it outside of his family. Maya is harboring a secret of her own that she has never shared. The sex is hot, but can a relationship with secrets last?

Maya and Tristan are main characters that are perfect together. Ms. Carlisle has given these characters depth that is as fun and entertaining as it is serious. The sex scenes bring the fire and heat. With the return of Nike and Michel, I cannot wait to see what happens next in this series!

This is the 2nd book in this new series by Ms. Carlisle. After the attack and fire at the underground goth club Vamps, the owner Michel decides to sell the club and travel with Nike. Now a year later Nike's bestie Maya decides to pay a visit to her and Nike's old haunt Vamps.

Maya is welcomed with open arms by the bouncer of Vamps and her friend Byron. Only one thing captures her attention the moment she looks across the room though, the tall, dark and mysterious hunk staring straight at her. Looks like her night at Vamps just got interesting, but the minute she blinks, he is gone.

Tristan has always thought of his gift as a curse, all he sees are peoples dark auras the hurt and sadness, but when he sees the lovely girl at the door he is surprised by what he sees for the first time in his life....Could the lovely Maya be the light that balances his dark?

Good/ evil, light/dark there is always one that balances the other, you just have to see it.

His dark to her light

Maya has been a bit down ever since last year when a fire took out Vamps and her best friend, Nike took off with the owner, Michel.
Vamps is rebuilt with a new owner named Tristan Stone. But Tristan has his own issues. Everywhere he goes he sees the darkness all around people. Till one day while making a quick rounds in his club, he see Maya and a bright light surrounding her.
Got lots of action and adventure throughout and a love story that almost wasn't.
Well written self-contained story that's very entertaining to read.

Maya and Tristons story starts with a meet-cute.

Their story started with a meet-cute at Maya and her friend Nike's favorite night club! the story continues to get more interesting as its told. You can't help but to root for them to get their head outta their butts and figure it out. Throw in a couple that creeps you out and what a story

This one was a surprise...

Tristan and Maya really are something out of this world. Witches in Salem, Mass? Well in this day and age anything is possible. Why not love and magic? I fell in love with this dark enigmatic man who has power beyond his one imagination but needs a fire to light the fuse. Maya packs a punch in this one.
Keep them coming and will keep on reading.

It’s been months since firefighter Maya Winters has heard from the woman she considered her best friend. Something happened between Maya’s friend Nike and the owner of their favorite club Vamps on the night it was bombed and caught fire. Even though she’s alone Maya finally returns to Vamps hoping for an evening of fun. She’d heard that the club was promoting live bands and there’s a new owner on board.

Coming from a so called ‘gifted’ family Tristan Stone is unfortunately burdened with a talent that keeps him apart from everyone, spending endless hours trying to find a way to cure himself. A quick check on the club one night and Tristan is mesmerized by a beautiful woman on the dance floor. There is something special about Maya, something that calls to the lonely man, something that may hold the key to unlocking his gift. Perhaps an end to the darkness surrounding Tristan. For Maya it is only the beginning…

There is no way to turn down the heat in Fiery Nights, the next offering in the Underground Encounters series. A secondary character in the first book Maya now takes center stage. She is given free rein to explore her own passionate nature with a solitary man looking for answers. Fiery Nights is a worthy addition that focuses on Maya and Tristan’s relationship while at the same time examining their quirks. Enjoy.

"Gifts are different for everyone. Maybe she has an affinity with some type of good spirits. Or maybe her gift is a connection with you. The light to your darkness."

In book two of the Underground Encounter series, the heroine, Maya, is the best friend of Nike, the heroine form Smoldering Nights. After hard work as a firefighter, Maya, dressed in a sexy pirate wench costume, celebrates Halloween at Vamps, a hot goth club. There she meets the tall, dark, handsome new owner of the club, Tristan Stone. He is a paranormal being, other than a vampire, but just as sexy and mysterious. Tristan and Maya connect well in more ways than one as she discovers that with her own paranormal gift she may be the same type of being.

"Lisa Carlisle has loved vampire stories since she was in third grade, when she had a crush on Dracula." Fiery Nights is the second book of her Underground Encounter series. The point of view in the Underground Encounters series is interesting and unique. The author uses first person point of view but switches it from hero to heroine by listing a header per scene or chapter as to which one she's using.

The writing has a smooth, seductive flow. I loved this slick, sizzling paranormal romance and its engaging characters. I highly recommend Fiery Nights.

Maya Winters is a Firefighter with a secret. She has a pretty stressful job as a Firefighter and likes to unwind by going to her favorite club, Vamps. She hasn’t been back since the fire a year ago, but a new owner took it over and now it has reopened. She likes what she sees. When she notices a super-hot guy watching her, she is curious, but not sure what to make of him when he suddenly disappears. Another encounter reveals him to be the new owner of Vamps. As Maya gets to know him more, secrets are revealed and a destiny neither one of them ever dreamed of comes to light. But to fulfill the destiny, they both have to find a way to breach the protective walls that they have built over the years and after hurting each other, it might not be possible to go back and start anew.

Tristan Stone is dark, broody, and gorgeous. He is immediately attracted to the light he sees in Maya. It is something he has never before experienced and he isn’t entirely sure what it means. He allows himself to get closer and indulge a bit, but after realizing his darkness is not what she deserves - she deserves someone so much better - he tries to distance himself, which may have cost himself the best thing in his life. Her light and his darkness- could they actually help one another, or just end up destroying themselves trying to make something work that never should have been?

A couple of days ago, I reviewed the prequel novella to this series. I really didn’t’ care for it much. I think everything just happened so fast, that I had a hard time believing any of it. While we read for fantasy and to indulge in said fantasies, I like to have a bit a believability within a story. Fire ended up featured at the end of the novella, Smolder, and I was quite intrigued with it. I received an ARC of this book and decided to give it a try. I have to say I am glad I did. While it was still fast-paced like the other, it moved at a much more believable rate. Both characters also had hurdles to overcome in an effort to find out the truth of their abilities and their purpose. Each character had more time on the pages and so were given a bit more depth that was lacking in the prequel. I ended up enjoying my time spent with this story. Interestingly enough, when the characters Nike and Michele (from Smolder) were introduced into this book, I wasn’t annoyed with them as I had been when reading Smolder. One issue that stuck, was my difficulty in visualizing the characters. I can put my finger on precisely what it was, but I kept seeing “young” and I didn’t picture Maya as someone who would have been ripped as a Firefighter.

I know I probably sound like a roller coaster – I liked this one, I don’t like that one - but I had made a suggestion with the review of Smolder that I think would still apply now that I have read Fire. Read Fire first. Go to Smolder after Fire. I believe that, had I read in that order, my irritation at the prequel novella would have been lessened. As far as Maya and Tristan, I enjoyed watching their secrets unfold and would be interested in reading more about Tristan’s family history – as well as what Maya’s heritage may have been given her being adopted as an infant. I sort of wish these things had been addressed in the book. Maya and Tristan were likeable characters if a little bull-headed in their own stubborn ways – leading to a couple of idiotic decisions that never should have been made but ultimately worked out. I think people who enjoy underground clubs might like several of the references made to bands and songs that were completely lost on me. I only recognized a couple of them, but that might be a nice bit of familiarity for those who can identify them. This book was longer than the first, but I still breezed through it. There is quite a bit of sexual content, so it isn’t for the reader sensitive toward description. However, I’d say it’s worth giving this series a shot. I’m now getting the vibe that somehow these characters will come together for some huge threat later in the series. They all ring in some different kind of skill set. The club and the main players within remind me of a paranormal version of the Island of Misfit Toys with great ability and potential. Viewed this way, and if I am correct in my completely unproven assumptions, the series has quite a lot of potential itself. I’ll be keeping an eye on it to see what develops as the books progress.

This is book two of the Underground Encounters series and the main characters are firefighter Maya and club owner Tristan. Tristan avoids people, believing he is cursed to only see the darkness in people, until the night he spots a woman in his club, Vamps, and can see a light surround her. Maya hadn’t been to the club for a year, ever since it burnt down and her fellow firefighter and best friend Nike left town suddenly. Now it has a new owner, Tristan, and on Halloween, Maya goes to the club to get her boogie on. He needs to find out who she is and why she has this light around her, instead of all the darkness and sadness he senses off everyone else. He catches up to her and they end up dancing together briefly and he doesn’t want to let her go. Normally he would spend his nights in his lab under the club floor, only coming up to check on his staff every couple of hours. He asks what is so special about her, but she doesn’t quite realise what he means, as he comes from a long family of witches, with differing powers. She has her own secret, but has never actually thought of it as magic, having never known her birth parents and being raised by a normal couple.

She loves her firefighting job, but is now the only female in the station, which leaves all the bloke comments on just her. She tries to contact her friend Nike, but she is somewhere in Europe apparently, with her lover Michal, and doesn’t really keep in touch. She could really do with her BF to talk to! She keeps away from the club for a few weeks, making Tristan worry he might never see her again, but she has to see him again eventually, feeling drawn to him as well. Their relationship starts explosively, hot and steamy, and he evens asks her to his mother’s home to meet his parents, before they have even gone on a proper first date! She will soon find out that there is more to the world around her that she ever knew. He takes her to a local cemetery to find out if she can see what he can, but she is different than he expected and eventually trusts him enough to share her secret. His experiments have still not stopped what he considers his curse and it weighs on him heavily, affecting his mood and life. Only when he can figure out what he really needs, will the truth of their combined magics come about and a future together be what he most desires. As usual, any relationships has to go through its ups and downs, before it can settle into what it should have been all along. Having what he considered a curse on his head, made life around others hard for Tristan, even when it came to Maya, and he has to work to overcome the mistakes he makes..

I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

MAYA is going to VAMPS for a night out. It's a goth type costume wearing place. It
It's been a year since she was there. The last time the place had an explosion and it's taken a while to get it rebuilt. Her best friend Nike is traveling with the former owner Michel. So she's solo. She goes onto the dance floor and feels eyes on her. She looks and sees a bad boy type watching her dressed all in black. Then he sweeps his cape and is gone.
TRISTAN is in his lab below the club and hears music he likes so heads up. There he glances around until he spots a bright light coming from one of the dancers. She turns and they stare at each other. Then he leaves but he can't figure out what that light was? He tries to find out in his books but nothing. He goes back to the club but she's gone. He now owns the club. He's talking to the bouncer at the door when she leaves. He finally meets her just after thinking he lost her.
He is fascinated with her even after just that one meeting. He can't get her out of his mind. Meanwhile she is having the same problem. But she has no one to talk to since her best friend is off in Europe. Tristan finally goes to talk to his mother. She wants to meet the woman. Finally two weeks later she goes back to the club. Will he be able to explain to her what she means to him with her light. He can't even explain it to himself. They are moving towards something meaningful but they are confused too. Will they be able to figure it out?
A book that will have the reader thinking.

This is the second book in the Underground Encounters series. This book is rightly named FIRE! It is a good book that holds your attention from the first page. I liked Maya a lot from the first book in the series. Maya has not been back to her favorite Club, Vamps, since the devastating fire that closed the Club. Now Vamps is fully renovated and has a new owner. Maya works long stressful hours as a firefighter. She likes to dance and listen to alternative music. This is her way of de-stressing. She is alone but goes to the club after hearing that they are going to have live bands.
Tristan Stone is the new owner of Vamps. He is a bit of a recluse. He sees shadows in and around others, this makes him uncomfortable around people. He is looking for a cure to his 'curse'. He sees Maya at his club and sees a light surrounding her, effectively chasing the shadows away. He is intrigued and must meet her.
These are two compelling people that have great chemistry and are perfect for each other. They each have secrets that could bring them together or tear them apart.
I really liked this book and I could not put it down once I started it. I look forward to MORE in this series.

**This book was provided to Nerd Girl in exchange for an honest review.**

Fire by Lisa Carlisle was originally published as Fiery Nights in 2012. This review is on the revised second installment of the Underground Encounters Series.

Firefighter Maya Winters has not been back to the Underground Club, Vamps, since the fire a year ago. The same night her friend Nike disappeared. But it’s Halloween, and Maya has missed the club.

Tristan Stone bought the club at a steal after a fire shut it down, and the previous owner disappeared. With his secrets, he doesn’t spend much time in the club proper, but ventured upstairs on Halloween night.

When Maya and Tristan meet, they flame like a house on fire. But both have secrets and doubts. Can they survive to find their own happily ever after?

The story and action moves fast, as does the explosive chemistry between the leads. Another incredible story from Lisa Carlisle, an easy 4-stars.

I listened to the audiobook version of this story.

Maya returns to the nightclub where she and Nike always went dancing on their nights off from the firehouse. She hasn't seen the club, or her best friend, since the night of the explosion and fire. It is now under new management and when the new owner catches sight of Maya on the dance floor he is astonished that she is surrounded by light. He is so used to only seeing the darkness in people that he knows he must meet this woman. As they grow closer they must share secrets that could mean the end of their relationship or the beginning of something beautiful.

I thought some of the "feelings" in this story were a little too much. The way Tristan went off when Maya admitted she had kissed another man was a little over the top. He had just broken up with her after all. I was given a copy of this audiobook by the author. My review is voluntary.

Maya missed her BFF and fellow fire fighter. She missed sharing the underground club experience. Still, it was time to get out and live again. The first time she returns she met Tristan, the new owner, and recluse. She drew him and he danced with her surprising himself. Could he trust his feeling, what he saw in her? Even with his secret could they have something? What he didn't know was that Maya had her own secret. One she didn't share with anyone.
They have great chemistry. He's been honest with her and why he doesn't come around people. She seems okay with it, however, he doesn't want her to live in the shadows as he does. Can she convince him either he deserves the light or that if he can't share it with her she'll share his place?
Another good underground romance.

Maya and Tristan find themselves captivated by each other. They both have abilities that make them different from others and that they tend to keep secret from all others. When they are together, they feel balanced and have a control they have never experienced before.

I enjoyed the book. There is a good balance of romance and action. I liked that Maya is a strong female character. She works in a male dominated field and expects to be treated with respect,

She and Tristan make a great couple. They really connect immediately and you can tell they belong together. They have a dangerous situation to face but do it as a team.

You don't have to read the first book to enjoy this one. The author gives you the relevant information you need.

I thought that this was a very good read. This is the second book in this series. I feel that if you could easily read this as a standalone story if you wanted to. This is Maya and Tristan's story. I liked this couple a lot. Their attraction is practically tangible and the chemistry just sizzles between these two. When these two come together expect plenty of heat! There is an almost yin and yang feel to these characters and that made this couple very appealing to me. I thought that the story was interesting and engaging. Well written and featuring a compelling combination of drama, secrets, excitement, action, steamy passion and romance, I thought that this was a very fun read. I look forward to book three. This is the second book in the Underground Encounters series but you don't have to have read the first one to enjoy this, although I do recommend it, it was a great read. The chemistry in this particular book is off the charts, it's sooooo hot! The characters are so good together, they both have secrets and hang ups but what they have together is too good to let it go. I really enjoyed this book, I enjoyed the storyline, the characters, the chemistry the writing style. I now need to read more of this series.

Tristan has a secret he has never share with anyone, only his family knows it... When he sees Maya, at his new club called the vamp, he can't get her out of his mind. Maya is introduced to the new owner of Vamp, and now weeks later all she can think about is him, in all kinds of ways. Can they keep this fast pace romance from fizzling out?

I loved this book! In my opinion this book was better than book 1... The characters of depth, there are not just one sided... Didn't have that ssdd (same-shit-different-day) feel.

A spicy yet in a way romantic novel about Maya and Tristan. After heating up hell, their relationship almost died a sudden death due to Tristan's inferiority complex about his so called curse. Not much other action, but she gets closure on her resentment about Nike's disappearance out of her life. I read the book in an afternoon and leaned more to a 3.5 rating halfway due to very little paranormal activity, but I enjoy the author's writing.

This story takes place after the fire at Vamps and the club is under new ownership. Tristan is the owner of the club who tends to avoid people as he body is drain by the darkness that surrounds people until one night he sees a woman with light surrounding her. He is intrigued enough to want to know who she is.

Maya is out looking to have some fun little did she know that her world would never be the same.

I listened to Fire as a standalone, and got the storyline, but I would recommend listening to first book Smolder first, which hopefully I will do. Having said that, characters are well developed, has an interesting storyline which is dark around the edges with pn flair.
I enjoyed Amber and Kieran’s narration in bringing these characters to life.

When I say erotic I am not kidding! 70% of the story was hot sex scenes the rest was the story. Of that story I totally enjoyed the hunt for the truth and this couples pursuit for connection of the magical kind. There was quite a bit of prolonged mental self flagellation from both characters which was a bit trying for me. I have both the ebook and the audible and the voices are done quietly and match them up quite well.

Loved this hot and fun paranormal romance. This is the second book in the series. The first had vampires and now we get witches. Fire is found in the Magic and between the sheets.
