Kiki gründet einen Ponyclub (1975) is book one of a five story series, was originally penned by Monica Alm in Swedish under the title of Här kommer ponnygänget and has been translated into German by Ursula Dotzler.
Kiki gründet einen Ponyclub and indeed the rest of the Kiki books were huge personal favourites when I was a tween, so that reading them all for the first time since the mid to late 1970s is definitely and delightfully nostalgic, with what Alm and by extension Dotzler as translator textually feature in Kiki gründet einen Ponyclub showing a fun and generally simple story of friendship, of Kiki's newly formed pony club ( Kiki, Marianne, Lena, Karin, Elizabeth, Anita and Ingrid) solving a mystery (that the supposed ghosts and monsters haunting the hayloft of the local riding school actually turn out to be two thieves wanting to scare people away so they can recover their stashed loot) but that Kiki gründet einen Ponyclub also clearly and very much appreciatively demonstrates that owning a pony and that just riding a pony entails and requires much personal responsibility, commitment and regular, constant practice.
And yes, yes, yes, it is also really and majorly wonderful, it is simply marvellous that the Kiki series features no nasty bullying (except perhaps depicting that Kiki's older brother Michael is a bit of an ass) no mean girls, no romantic entanglements, that everything is about friendship, ponies and some mild mysteries and adventures (and indeed, that Kiki's first person narration makes her feel like a kindred spirit and that how she is written and how she talks in Kiki gründet einen Ponyclub and from what I remember from the sequels feels relatable, reads as age appropriate and is also utterly delightful, is entertaining and like pure and utterly sweetly satisfying reading candy, that Monica Alm and Ursula Dotzler made me smile as a young, as a tween reader and equally and still make me absolutely and totally smile today and will continue to do so).
Now as an older adult rereading Kiki gründet einen Ponyclub, albeit the seven girls of the pony club being at first scared of and by the supposed hauntings in the hayloft and then in fact helping the police figure out the truth, solve the case and arrest the two thieves playing at being ghosts and monsters is a trifle hard to believe (and feels a trifle silly and artificial), well, my inner child does not care AT ALL and has enjoyed everything about Kiki gründet einen Ponyclub (both the story in and of itself and also all the solidly factual, realistic and accurate information and advice regarding ponies and equine husbandry). Five solid stars for Kiki gründet einen Ponyclub (perhaps a bit positively biased on my part, but that I do stand by said rating and that I have enjoyed Kiki gründet einen Ponyclub as much now as I did then, as I did in the 1970s).
