Their Improbable Mating

Rate this book
[Siren Erotic Paranormal Romance, shape-shifters, HEA] The operation was planned for every possible outcome, all but one—complete and total loss of communications. Jackie Sutter doesn't know if anyone is listening, doesn't know if they know where she is, and doesn't know if the cavalry is riding to the rescue. All she knows for sure is that she's suddenly up on the block, being sold in a black market auction to the sexiest man she's ever seen. The mission is simple—get in and save the girls being sold off at a madman's whim. What Allistair Fairbanks doesn't expect, what throws a wrench into it all, is finding the woman that is his bond-mate on display for all to see. All he has to do now is get her out, convince her they are fated to be together, and live happily ever after. Never has a mission come with higher stakes. With their very happiness and future riding on the outcome, do they dare not try? ** A Siren Erotic Romance

I kept going back and forth between two and three stars, so I went with three. The problem I'm having lately with the series is the sickly sweet dialogue between the hero and heroine. The constant uses of "darling" and "my love" are a bit over the top. I sometimes prefer the showing instead of the constant telling of feelings. Yes, it's nice to know they love and care for the other but having it constantly shoved at me gets very tiresome. There were also some time issues within the book and even though it says Paranormal Protection Unit and dragons are mentioned often, we don't get to see Allister change into a dragon and see how she would react or not react. The only real paranormal part was maybe the sense of smell and because she is later pregnant she craves constantly hot and spicy things. It felt more a contemporary with a little oops, it's supposed to be paranormal thrown in. So far, the first in the series is the best and the past too books have been way too sugary sweet. I'm a huge fan of the insta-mate/insta-love thing that can happen, but these take it way, way, way over the top.

Allistar & Aiden Fairbanks, members of the elite "Paranormal Protection Unit" are in the middle of a sex trafficking trade sting when Allistar gets a whiff of his mate Jackie Sutter. Able to complete the assignment and rescue his mate, he's devastated when she rejects him and flees. It's up to Aiden to go to extreme measures for his twin brother to recapture Jackie and salvage a possible future before Allistar gets himself killed.

This is the third of the 'Paranormal Protection Unit' series that features dragon shapeshifters. I do have to say that the title was misleading for me as I thought the story would include a menage relationship due to the "Their" part of the title. It's not. It's a mf read. That being said this standalone story is an adventure superficial erotica themed book that, while enjoyable, didn't scratch my itch for those alpha dragon shapeshifters meeting their soul mate with a HEA ending.

Of all the shapeshifter themed books out there I have to admit that I have a special love for dragons. Their big bad don't mess with me or I'll barbeque you and eat you for lunch attitude is guaranteed to get my attention so I had to read this for that premise alone. It started out terrific but by the 50% part of the story I just knew it wasn't going to be in my top 100 favorite list. I really feel bad about that as the premise and plot were promising.

The issues were more with the writing style than storyline. The breakaway scenes throughout this book were compartmentalized and barely gave reference points to time, place, etc which totally took me out of the story. One scene occurs at a hospital. The next in a home setting. Then a car chase scene. Then a business office. And so forth. The flow and/or timing was choppy and really didn't work. And a few additional hopefully non spoiler problems for me included the lack of Allister ever transforming into a dragon. What's up with that? And why wasn't there any reference to or actual mating/marriage ceremony? Given Jackie's family and this love connection I surely would have expected that to occur or a ring or honeymoon or anything. Also, there is a reference somewhere in the story referencing 'gods' which I got confused about as the only point of reference for me was a belief in a goddess deity by the shapeshifter. Lastly, the emotional attachment/mate premise. Just because words are said and actions are performed doesn't make me believe two people have that special something. There was just no feeling behind the superficial erotica and/or love anywhere that I could see unless I take the words said by the central characters as my guide.

Sorry author. I really and truly wanted to like/love this story and series. There were some terrific individual scenes in this story that spark of potential for excellence but got brought down by the choppy contradictory storyline that won't have me reading any further installments in this series although I would have loved to have read 'Skittles' and 'Talons' story.

I loved how Their Improbable Mating started out. I had been wanting to read about Allister. This is the third book in the series and I am looking forward to more~especially Talon!!

I loved how when Allister saw Jackie he immediately knew that she was his mate and how Jackie also felt a connection to him before she even knew anything about him. I loved that she just accepted their connection and him as a shifter without fighting him. Allister was so sweet with Jackie~especially in the beginning. This book was so funny. Honor writes with such a great sense of humor that has been a constant through out the series.

Haha...I loved the scene with Jackie saying she had a shy pee-er~this made me laugh so much because I am always saying that about myself!! :)

I loved reading about my favorite characters~Talon, Skittles, Aiden, Mac, Sully and Trey. And I am so happy now that Allister did not share a mate with Skittles because I liked him so much with Jackie. Ugh...Aiden acted like a real ass~hat to Jackie in the beginning of this book~especially about the shortening of his and Allister's names. But he did make up for it and I really liked the friendship that developed between Jackie and him. They were so funny together.

Their Improbable Mating story line with Aiden was one that I was not expecting. I was shocked about what happened to him. But I loved that he got his mate out of it and I absolutely loved who his mate is related to. I cannot wait to read what happens with that. The epilogue was so cute but it did through me off because it was a year later. I am hoping that Aiden's story picks up from the ending and not the epilogue.

Another good addition to the series. Honor keeps pulling me into her stories and leaving me wanting more. And I love that there isn't such a long time between the release of the books. As I have said before, there are some things that I struggled with in the stories as well as with the characters but what I liked was enough to keep me interested and entertained to continue on with the series. Skittle's book remains my favorite of the series so far.

Thanks again to Honor for continuing to send me these books for review. I really appreciate it. 3 out of 5 rating!!

My actual rating is really a 3.5-4 stars..

I actually liked this book, but i think Honor James needs to do a bit more better in her books..

My first problem about this book was about the way Jackie reacted to Alistair's in the beginning. After 2 months of drugs and kidnapping you would've thought she had a mind to think better of people who are buying her in the black market. Instead she instantly cuddles towards him and relaxes in the back of a car with men who she had no idea were good guys.

My second problem was how after waking up in hospital Jackie kisses and flirts with Alistair's. It seems not even 5 min have passed when she met het bond-mate and already making out. Thats too fast..

My Third problem..lol.. Was when Jackie left after a stupid conversation with Aiden the twin of Alistair's. All Aiden said was its an insult to call him and his brother a nickname. (She called them Al and Ai btw) and she just ups and leaves.... How stupid can ya be, over nicknames...

My biggest problem so far which is fourth and foremost...... Falling in love. After one day, not even that, i would say a couple hours, Jackie has fallen in love, i do not believe in falling in love in less than a day.. For what its worth i think its stupid and childish really, a build up would be nice, even though its a short story.. I can understand from Alistair's p.o.v because he feels his bond-mate and its instant love really, but not for jackie,

Ohhh i tell a lie, my biggest biggest problem was thiss... Jackie is 22 years old, out of college, and in sector thirteen whose basically a black op. now tell me now if you think this is not strange ? Imm sureee Honor James has made a mistake in the age.. Like thats so unrealistic. Do have any better ideas, shes still basically a child, to me that cannot happen, i could go with her being tough and well teained considering her marine brothers and senator father but this. Its a no no.

Well if you can override MY provlems your are considered a saint, dont let this put you off

these books have gotten worse. I am very disappointed. Too much time spent on complimenting each other and not enough on a story line. one chapter she is trying to get pregnant and loses the baby then next chapter she is pregnant then her brother in law is gone then he is back... not sure what happened in between all that but I know for sure they complimented each other on how wonderful they were. Paranormal Protection Unit???? Where is that story? Just when I think the author is going to elaborate on something and get in depth the sentence will go something like this... and thats how they things such and such. Such a shame coulda been a good series.

I have just fallen in love with this series. This is book three in the series. I have enjoyed meeting the characters and enjoying the romances. This was not a huge favorite of mine. I did not enjoy how so much time was skipped in this book. All kinds of time was just missing.
