HOW DO YOU FIND SOMEONE WHO COULD BE ANYWHERE IN TIME? Jax and his friends race through the past to recover the stolen time machine. Unable to contact Micky, JT sets out with Jax and Izzy on a perilous trek bringing them face-to-face with dinosaurs, an abandoned village, and a ferocious saber-tooth. Will they be able to track down the thieves? After a shocking twist, the teens make one of the greatest discoveries of all.
As in the 1st 3 Books, this is a Series in 2 Parts. The main with the Kids traveling in Time, and an opening & ending Part. Last Series, the Kids stole the Show. But in this Series, they were the minor Part. I'm not going to be a Spoiler, but if you're like me, you'll be sad but also lifted up. If I had to wait to read the 3rd Book, I'd go crazy!!!
Definitely the most enjoyable entry into this series so far! I loved the final chapter, and was shocked by how much the epilogue hurt… I’m actually really excited to read the next book!!
How do you catch a thief who could be anywhere in time? The Chase, the newest installment of the Truth Chronicles by Tim Chaffey and Joe Westbrook, following the time travelling adventures of four teens from Silicaon Valley Prep, seeks to answer that very question. Without giving any spoilers, I can say that the cliffhanger from #4: The Thief is definitely resolved. We do discover the identity of those who stole the time as well as why they did it.
Of course, that's only half the story. This time, the gang find themselves in the post-Flood world, within a few generations of the Flood itself. They must not only chase down their beloved time machine without disrupting the space-time continuum [andlet's face it: the more you engage the past, the more difficult that becomes], but escape velociraptors, a carnotaurus and [my fave] a sabertooth big cat. Like #4, this one ends on a cliffhanger. The cover of #6: The Discovery, included as the final page of this book, pretty much gives away what the foursome find in their time travelling adventures, but I'm trying to limit spoilers anyway so you'll just have to read the book for yourself.
We find out a bit more about Mickey's past in this book, as well as why she's so resistant to Christianity. We also see JT's humanity nearly get in the way of her witness, which rounds out her character a bit. This book is lighter on addressing apologetic issues than any of the the previous four. We do see the problems with dino-bird evolution and the issue of Christians [and folks who call themselves Christians and may even have convinced themselves of this label] who do grossly hypocritical and/or sinful things addressed.
The series is once again illustrated by Christian manga artist Melissa mathis, aka Inkhana. I showed one of my boys the illustration on page 34 (involving a horse, a rider and a big mouth full of teeth) and he pretty much snatched the book out of my hands and tried to take off with it. I got it back. [This book is called The Chase...] The only complaint I have [and this may be my first ever of the series] is that the illustration for Chapter Two, while just stinking awesome in its own right, doesn't at all match the content of that chapter. It's more of an extra illustration for Chapter Three.
I should also mention that the wraparound gets a bit dark in this one. For those of you who are new to the series, the first trilogy included an prologue and epilogue to each book that had seemingly nothing to do with the story. It was almost like Chaffey and Westbrook were telling a mini-tale across their books... and, well, they were. That tale had to do with Jax' kidnapped father and how he came to be rescued. This wraparound, which began in #4, deals with Pastor Rich, the youth pastor from the first trilogy, who has gone oversees to smuggle Bible into an Islamic country. Their story ends with a harrowing cliffhanger!
For action-packed fiction filled with Biblical truth and solid Christian characters without making caricatures of them, pick up a copy of The Chase today! And, once again, be sure to Like the Truth Chronicles Facebook page.

"The Chase" takes the action up a notch as Jax, Izzy, and JT race through time to find out who has stolen their original time machine, and worry about Mickey's reaction to other cliffhanger events from the previous novel. As they pursue the thief to a new time and location, the trio come into contact with more extinct animals and observe the post-Flood world in a new and exciting way.
The side plot with Pastor Rich doing missions work in the Middle East continues, and gives readers a lot to think about. How far would you go to see God's Word spread on foreign soil? Would you be willing to face the consequences if you were caught? I can't wait to see how this is wrapped up in Book 6.
When the trio catch up to the time machine and its thief, it's the last person they were expecting. JT loses her cool, which was actually a little refreshing and quite realistic, given how she has seemed Miss Perfect in every other situation she has been in. Even those who strive to make good choices and have good attitudes all the time, this humble reader included, make mistakes and fall on their faces sometimes. Even though she then felt terrible, JT rallied with a beautiful humility to restore the relationship that had been threatened by her outburst. I thought the whole situation was very positively handled!
Facing new challenges with the change in time and location, Jax and company work hard to ensure they are leaving no permanent imprint on the past, and are trying to get themselves and their thief safely back home when they realize there's something very special about the shelter they have found. But you'll have to tune in to Book 6 to find out what it is, although I think we can figure it out by taking a peak at the cover and title! I am eagerly awaiting Book 6's arrival and the resolution of this set of stories. How is the big discovery going to impact the present lives of our time travelers?
I received my copy of the book from the author in exchange for this honest review. All opinions are my own.
Saber-toothed tigers, dinos, theft, a dangerous chase and a race through time. Book V in the Truth Chronicles brought even more action than the previous installments (YES!) along with some intriguing details about the Ice Age. I'm hooked!
I love this series! And in fact, it keeps going. This is NOT the last book. Yes! I love this series and could read each book a million times and discover something new everytime I read it.
