My first time reading from Donna Hill’s work and I see why she’s been so successful!

Very rarely do speed though romances but Ms Hill created a fascinating workplace setting that I had to know what came next. If you’ve ever watched Morning Show on Appletv then you know how cut throat and dramatic morning news is. All those fake smiling people on TV are absolute terrors behind the scenes.

With this story we have added drama of a news anchor and journalist hooking up behind the scenes since they don’t want to ruin their careers. From there readers are thrown into a swoony romance but both characters have to take stock of what they want most career or love?

Luckily for us they end up not having to choose but that doesn’t mean it was an easy journey for Layne and Paul.

I so enjoyed the DC and Charlotte settings. The dialogue and steamy scenes were fantastic and now I need to search out the authors backlist!

Fans of workplace romances will definitely love this one!

What's for me is for me...

I absolutely devoured this book in one night. I have read in many reviews I finished it in one sitting and I often wondered "is that true" it was my experience with this title.

Hill is one of my favorite storytellers and she develops the heck out of her characters. Lights, Camera Scandal as Cherie says and I totally agree. This story is about a girl with a dream that gets derailed and a boy with a heart in need of repair. But the smoke screen from the dream doesn't allow vision or repair.

There's a saying what's for me is for me, when you dream and it doesn't come to fruition don't try to manufacture it, let it go and if it's meant it will be.

I absolutely enjoy this book, it was exciting but Hill managed in her way to weave excitement romance, mystery and intrigue into this face paced sexy drama.

Tropes: Second Chance, Workplace, Forced Proximity

Content Warning: Workplace Harassment

Layne Davis and Paul Waverly both work in the news anchor world. They fell in love three years ago, but their relationship fell apart when Layne decided to follow her dreams at a national news station. Three years later, Paul shows up at Layne's current news station, snatching her dream anchor job in the process. As she works as a producer for his show, they have to face their past, and fight for a rekindled future.

Let's start with the good. I really appreciated how Black this book is. There is a section about Layne's hair that I really appreciated, and the language felt natural and real. I also appreciated that the book takes a real swing on tackling workplace harassment and handled it well for the length.

Okay so for what irked me. I wanted to strangle Paul for the first half of this book. The entire source of their conflict is that he's mad she chose her career over him, while doing the exact same thing. Then, he takes her dream job, and in an effort to force her to talk to him when she's said she wants to keep it professional, he undermines her at every turn and gets the higher-ups to be mad at her. It is a level of self-absorbed that deserves more than one punch in the face, and it gets resolved way too quickly for my taste.

Then, once that is resolved, there are a few chapters of sexual bliss before the book turns to the workplace harassment plot. While dramatic and effective at driving conflict, it's not very romantic. I think there is something to be said for taking down a nemesis with one's significant other, but that is much more satisfying when I haven't spent most of the book seething at the hero.

If you want a workplace romance that's heavy on the workplace, this will probably go better for you. For me, it was just...fine.

Shoutout to Ebony Ford for good audio narration.

Love Donna Hill and I'm never disappointed when I pick up one of her stories. The journey that DH took us on with the inner workings of the newsroom with romance involved was genius. Paul and Layne's love story had so much passion, heart and intrigue I just couldn't put this book down until the very end. Tina and Layne's friendship was awesome you always need a close girlfriend. Very glad Deanna was exposed, and Layne was the perfect person to do it. DH is the reason why I still read romance today she was one of the first authors I picked up when I started reading romance.

The drive and passion Paul and Lyne had to be successful in their careers is one of the things that brought them together and it is also what kept them apart for three years. That drive , vindictive boss and stubbornness almost tore them apart but their loss for each other was stronger.
