A history of small figure carving along with some basic instruction. It uses a single knife, so about as tool lite as woodworking ever gets. The figure style is interesting, but borders a bit on the creepy doll look.

My profession may be prosecuting, but my avocation is woodcarving. Harley Refesal is one of the greatest teachers of the art that is around today. This book draws on his years of experience in teaching and studying the art both here and in Europe. In addition to being a master woodcaver Harley is also a Lutheran Minister and a professor of Norweigan studies at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. If this art interests you, and you have oppurtunity take a class from Harley.

An instructive read . Enough to get you started on a carving career. Well it got me started any way. I have fond memories of this style of carving from my childhood in Norway.
