A history of small figure carving along with some basic instruction. It uses a single knife, so about as tool lite as woodworking ever gets. The figure style is interesting, but borders a bit on the creepy doll look.

This book draws on his years of experience in teaching and studying the art both here and in Europe. In addition to being a master woodcaver Harley is also a Lutheran Minister and a professor of Norweigan studies at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. An instructive read . Enough to get you started on a carving career. Well it got me started any way. I have fond memories of this style of carving from my childhood in Norway.
