They knew their power, their money, their men. But they did not know each other....

They were the fabulous Jolays, half-sisters, bound by blood but not by love. Daughters of an outstanding French perfumer whose world had collapsed, now they are bitter rivals, torn apart by their personal quests for power. Luminous Vie, the ice goddess many men desired but few possessed, the bold genius who parlayed a childhood dream into a fragrance empire. And Marty, dark and sensual, a brilliant rebel who used her body and her mind to achieve the only thing she ever truly desired - recognition.

Through the long years of poverty to those of dazzling success, their bitter rivalry grew. It was Vie who created an empire, but it was Marty who was determined to control it. No matter what the cost, she would conquer Vie's glittering world and claim it as her own.

Read it when I was younger. The plot follows two sisters and a perfume empire and weaves its way all over the place. Add a dash of romance and you have Scents.

The best thing..the sisters themselves and the ir relationship which was fascinating and absorbing. Worst thing? SOOO long. (Sorry but..). I believe it is over 400 pages. I kind of like em a bit shorter.

This was sort of a guilty pleasure for me. While not in the Jackie Collins arena, this book features plenty of romance and everything i s dazzling and glitzy so it really feels like a book of that time period. My tastes have changed over the tears but I look back on this one fondly.

When I was a child I loved reading my Granny's books (mostly Danielle Steel) and for some reason I always remembered this book. So much so, I found it on eBay and bought it! I love how tragic and fraught the characters are without being too melodramatic. A lovely book.

This is probably one of the first “sexy” books I had ever read that also captured my imagination. I found this book for free at a local book give-away, and while I definitely was too young for a lot of the sultry scenes, I adored reading about the plot set in WW2, the trials of Armand, and all the luxury that came crashing down to rest on his daughters.
This is also a book that is very focused on female power and authority. Many men try to steal or conquer that power, but they all fail. The only men allowed to be seen as “positive” are those that recognize the sisters as equals in business and life.
Scents is definitely a book I continually return to time and again.

This book made me want to write sexy novels. I loved it the moment I read the first line. Johanna Kingsley, I would love to be as good a writer as you. I'm working on it.

Should be a little bit longer, ending is too fast. All in all a good book, I really enjoyed reading it
