Two hearts frozen in time, fighting against insurmountable odds. Both were determined to survive their haunted pasts. When Malinda has no choice, but to leave her childhood home, she finds herself matched with the one man who holds the power to break her resolve to never let love cross her path. Destiny sends her down a path that unlocks the mysteries of Lena. While Grant wants nothing more than to continue his unhindered revenge against the werewolves of the Lair, guilt consumes him. He could no longer ignore his duties. His daughter needed a mother.
Set a few years after ‘In Flames’ this book centres around Melinda & Grant. Since the death of his wife Maria, Grant has decided to look for a new wife. He believes his daughter would benefit from having a new mother. He feels guilty for neglecting her in the years since her birth and wants to make amends. He seeks advice from a matchmaker who tells him he has the perfect girl in mind. Melinda is worried for her Grandmother. Her health is failing and they cannot afford to pay their taxes. Her Grandmother has raised her since birth as her Mother died in childbirth. Her Grandmother soon passes away and after a meeting with the matchmaker decides she will marry Grant and leave her family home, if only to escape the taxman. Their destiny is to be together but are there other forces that will drive them apart? I really enjoyed this book. I was immediately drawn in the second Melinda meets Sophia, Grant’s daughter. Melinda is one of those strong willed women with a huge heart and Grant’s character is written perfectly to match her. The interaction between the two work so well. As this carried on from ‘In Flames’ it has the same magic, werewolves, romance entwined in the story but with a ghost thrown into the mix. I liked that I learned more about the women of Lena and their abilities which is what I though lacked in the first. The sex scenes were written well as I thought in this book they were essential in explaining the depth of feeling between the two main characters. I am recommending this book because like book one it offers a great mix of fantasy and romance and a lovely little girl who will tug at your heart strings.
When I finished Book One, I immediately came to this book. Although I was saddened to lose Lysandra, the void was quickly filled by the two stars of this book.
This story follows Melinda, who for reasons you will learn, is out on her own. Then we get acquainted again with Grant? He has a vendetta against a werewolf clan that has killed those he loved, cherished, and grew with. Grant also has a child whom he feels needs a mother since hers was killed. When these three meet there is happiness? There is so much fear that they will discover what haunts them from the past.
This story really rocks. I do believe the author corrected some of her faults from the first book and now is excelling in her command of new verbiage, her ability to write smoother, more believable descriptive, and a new command of action. Even the steamier scenes between Grant and Melinda are more fulfilling and believable. Don't get me wrong, most of the steamy scenes were only skim read by this reader.
Elissa Daye is going to be on my auto buy author list and I have already purchased book one in this series. What a wonderful story, with interesting characters, the story line had new things and was a perfect mix of shifters, ghosts and witches, I loved this hot number. The mystery and background of Malinda and her Lena lineage is a great twist that added to the story. Since I hadn’t read the first book I had no idea Grant was a shifter, it was a nice surprise. This story moves very quickly, the fears seemed real and were written about in a way that you could understand why these two people were hesitant (afraid) of being together in a romantic relationship. The author didn’t focus on it, it wasn’t every other page about how scared they were, but you knew it was there, and watched as they changed. They each continued to go through the motions of living together day by day and learning about each other. While having a very passionate, enjoyable relationship. A very hot read. This book had a flavor of Maya Banks’s Highlander series with an added bonus of being a much steamier read and the paranormal aspects were engaging and kept me interested to figure out how the pieces all fit together. I highly recommend this book for adults, who enjoy historical romance with a twist of the paranormal. I would consider this tasteful erotica, character driven with an awesome story line.
In Rapture was a great read, I loved it! Malinda was an amazing and couragious character. To go through what she did, and then to be thrown into a situation that she could not deny, was heartbreaking. She knew that this was her destined path as a woman of Lena, so she took it all in stride and made the best it. I also felt bad for Grant, his past haunted him and made his present life miserable, but that all changes when Malinda come into his life. It's funny when two people, clearly in love with one another, fight their feelings because they're scared. Malinda and Grant where quite stubborn ,lol, but all with good reason. I'm sure we can all agree when I say, It's definitely hard sometimes to get over the hurt of the past, but Grant takes it to the point where he clearly needs a slap in the head, lol. It wouldn't be a great story if it didn't have a little action and drama with a HEA, and let's not forget about Grant's hotness, but you'll have to read it to find out, lol. I can't wait for the next one in this series! Enjoy!!
I enjoyed this story. As a busy, working mom it's really hard for me to find a book that holds my attention. This book did. The author came up with a unique twist to the romantic tale...the couple aren't faced with silly trials and mundane hurdles in their relationship, they are faced with the ghost of the first wife and werewolves howling at the door. I'm not usually a big fan of paranormals, but I liked this story and would read other books by this author.
Elissa does it again!! This book is HOT!!! I don't want to give any spoilers, but this is very magically to say the least!! Never underestimate the power of any woman, because more than likely you will lose! Also, goes to show you that you never stand between a woman and her child because all h*ll will break out
