A shattering new novel of suspense from the acclaimed author of For Edgar .
His debut novel For Edgar was named by Kirkus Reviews as one of the Ten Best Mysteries of 2005, and hailed as "prose worthy of Poe." In The Boy With Perfect Hands , the Hollywood Reporter found "plenty of chances to shiver." Now, Sheldon Rusch returns to plunge his brave protagonist, Illinois State Special Agent Elizabeth Hewitt, into a new series of crimes, each more shocking than the last. Estranged couples are being beheaded by someone with a twisted agenda-a violent secret ceremony, to which Hewitt has been invited.
This book was a difficult read because of the way it was written. I found myself re-reading parts of it because of the authors need to describe a thought, a scene, or a feeling, three to four different ways. While I can understand that style once in a while for dramatic effect, its constant use becomes mind numbing. At times I wasn't even sure if I was reading the same story. The flip flopping back and forth made the story feel disjointed. The ending was so unbelievable that I felt that I had wasted my time reading this book. Will definitely think twice before thinking about reading anything else from this author.
When a middle aged woman is found beheaded in the bedroom of her suburban home. Another shocking surprise awaits Illinois special agent Elizabeth Hewitt: when the womans estranged husband is also found beheaded in his home.In the same grisly fashion.. Hewitt soon learns this is not just a grisly vendetta against one estranged couple , Because soon another estranged husband and wife are discovered beheaded as well. And this won,t be the last. A killer has begun his secret ceremony and these won,t be the last murders unless Hewitt can find the killer and stop him!
Quite slow at the start but the acceleration, as I continued reading, was that of a NASCAR driver anticipating his over 200 mile per hour goal.
I truly enjoyed this novel and look forward to reading more from Mr. Rusch. I had two suspects in mind but the grand finale surprised me to tremors. Great job Sheldon!!
