About the author

Hi there! I'm an author of mostly sci-fi/fantasy YA novels, like Legend, Warcross, The Young Elites, Skyhunter, and Stars & Smoke. My adult fantasy debut, Red City, releases this October 14, 2025.

I graduated from the University of Southern California and currently live in LA with my family. Before becoming a full-time writer, I was an Art Director at a video game company. Now I spend most of my time writing, trying to keep my plants alive, and getting stuck in traffic. I feel very honored that I get to tell you stories, and my deepest wish is always that my books can offer you some joy, solace, entertainment, and/or escape. I happened to find out about this AFTER reading the trilogy, so yeah, bummer. But the Dystopian Perspective thoughts were worth it.

This sampler is the perfect amount of Legend you need in order to want to read it all. And when you have an excerpt from the three books AND words from the author, what else can you ask for?

Perfect for YA lovers. Perfect for anyone. Great sampler, great author, just get it.

This sampler contains excerpts from Legend (the first in series), and Prodigy (the second in series, newly published). I've read Legend, and one day when I'm feeling rich I'll buy and read Prodigy. But the eBook also contains a short essay about dystopias, which is why I purchased this freebie. I enjoyed the essay.

At the very beginning I loved this book! Legend hooked me instantly by introducing you to Day. Marie Lu did a wonderful job on giving you just enough of his background without giving away too much. She did a great job on keeping me hooked through the book series!
