Michael Bond, CBE was an English children's author. He was the creator of Paddington Bear and wrote about the adventures of a guinea pig named Olga da Polga, as well as the animated BBC TV series The Herbs. Bond also wrote culinary mystery stories for adults featuring Monsieur Pamplemousse and his faithful bloodhound, Pommes Frites.
Paddington goes to Portobello Road, discovers the "joys" of supermarket shopping, and after a series of misunderstandings and scrapes, everything goes well. This is one of the Picture Book series from the 1970s with fine illustrations by Fred Banbery, and is designed to be read with very young children as the pictures are full of interest. As ever, Michael Bond's easy literate style brings out the humour and challenges of how a newcomer to Britain learns the whys and wherefores of living here, through the indomitable spirit of one likeable bear.
definitely wasn't 28 pages. I thought it was weird he bought marmalade when he always says about making it. but thought he was very kind to give away his sandwich to the birds.
