I love the idea of a group of friends swapping meals to simplify and add interest to everyone's life. The idea is that each friend in the group prepares a "serves six" dish for everyone in the group and goes home with as many meals as there are members in the group.

There are no photographs or illustrations, but the recipes are straight forward and look yummy. Whether you'll be preparing for a huge crowd, doing mega-cooking ahead for your own family, or exchanging meals with friends you're sure to find something to like about this book.

I did not know this was a groupish cook book when I bought it. It is designed so that you are in groups and you each cook a whole bunch of the same meal and switch at a common meeting time so you really have to cook less often. You freeze the meals and pull them out when you need them. I am not interested in doing this but the recipes were pretty good...something the whole family would enjoy for simple meals.

I actually sat down and read every word of this cookbook from cover to cover. It contains recipes that are designed to be prepared in bulk, frozen, and used later. Each recipe details how to get the best results (which ingredients to freeze separately, whether to cook the meat before or after freezing, etc.) as well as cooking instructions for when you're ready to eat it. Now to buy a bigger freezer...

I'm in a freezer meal group and this is one of the books we used to begin it. The recipes are easy to follow, kid-friendly and inexpensive. Some of the recipes do rely heavily on canned ingredients, but when you're cooking in bulk that does simplify things. If you're looking to start a group, this book is an excellent starting tool. It gives clear instructions for set-up, cooking, freezing and beyond.

This was different than I expected. It's main premise is that you can make a huge batch of freezer meals and trade with a group...which I'm not really interested in doing. However, they have all of the recipes "scaled" down you can make for just one family and the few recipes I have tried (and I want to try many more) were huge hits so far....so in that sense, I'm giving it 4 stars.
