Trail Running is one of the fastest growing segments in the sport of running. And it's easy to understand why:
"To run on the road is a staccato one-two, one-two. Insistent. Hurried. Relentless. Once you reach the trail, footfalls become muffled, silent even, and instead you hear your breath. On the trail, the rhythm comes from a deeper place inside you--your lungs, your heart, and your head--as you hear your breath enter and leave your body. It's a slower metronome, one infintely more relaxed, than on the road."--Dagny Scott Barrios

There are some nice pointers in here about safety on trails. Most of the general information about running is nothing that's not covered by other books, but the author's essay about snakes on the trail and the final, very personal chapter on nature and emotions make this well worth reading.
Really enjoyed this book. It spoke of every topic known to trail running from novice to advance. Although I already knew 95% of the material, I found it to be more motivating than anything and reaffirms my first love of trail running. It is a whole new set mindset to run trails vs road. Both are great for the body with pros and cons to each. If you're interested in trail running this is an excellent guide to start with.
