Thoroughly researched and documented, Shut Up and Smile: Supermodels and the Dark Side is a highly controversial portrait of the fascinating and tragic world of the modelling industry. It is a manic trip through superstardom, payola, sexual slavery, anorexia, racism, alcohol and drugs. Investigative author Ian Halperin went undercover as a model with top agencies in New York, South Beach and Los Angeles. He interviewed over 300 models, designers, agents and insiders connected with the fashion industry. Halperin's probe exposes a disturbing pattern in which young men and women are ill-equipped to handle the dizzying ascension to stardom.
