As Jennie Adams began her writing career with the publication of her first two Mills & Boon romance stories in 2005. Her strong heroes and feisty, determined heroines have warmed the hearts of readers all over the world, with her books being translated into numerous foreign language editions. Although she fights the impulse, Jennie still tries to decipher each foreign edition when it arrives in the mail. Italian, anyone? An avid romance reader, particularly in the historical romance genre, Jennie is the self-confessed owner of an over-active imagination. When she isn't writing her own romance stories, or travelling back through time to enjoy the romances of Dukes and Duchesses, or Knights and their Ladies, Jennie keeps her imagination busy writing articles and short stories on anything from alpacas to gardening to visiting the zoo. Her articles and short stories have been published in magazines and periodicals in Australia and overseas. In her downtime Jennie tries to grow flowers, sends silly gifts to friends and family, is exploring new forms of musical entertainment, and endlessly studies the human condition wherever, in whatever form, and as often as she may do so.
4 Stars ~ Ever since her parents tragic death a sea, Claire had been her sister's protector, and the one she ran to when she had a problem that needed to be fixed. So when Sophie pleads for help with her ex-boss who had caught her embezzling, Claire had to help even though she was tempted to let Sophie face her own music. Sophie was engaged to be married to a raising star Senator, and he ex-boss had threatened to expose her to the press, ruining not only her relationship with Tom but his career as well. Claire had just recently been promoted to temporary PA to the owner of the company she worked for, and with the increased salary she could manage to repay her sister's debt.
Nicolas had achieved success in his career and now he wanted a settled home life too. But he after living through the nightmare of his parents broken marriage, he didn't believe in love. Claire's advancement to his PA seemed like the answer to his quest. She seemed to be just the kind of woman he could make a life with. She was smart, witty, not afraid to argue against him, and so sexy she knocked his socks off --- not that he let her know that. After vetting her qualifications, he called her aside and offered her the position as his wife. Claire's shocked. It's a business proposal ... a real marriage without the complications of falling in love. Nicolas explained how compatible they were, both on a practical sense and with a physical chemistry. He's sure Claire will jump at his proposal but when she doesn't he threatens to send her back to the typing pool where she'd be back to a barely making ends meet salary.
Claire's in a panic and she negotiates a longish engagement of four months for them to get to know each other better. She needs to keep working as his PA, and in three months the blackmailer would have his final payment. Claire could then find a way to back out of the engagement, for there was no way she could possibly marry Nicolas. He wanted a loveless match, and Claire was already head over heels in love with her boss.
This is Ms. Adams first novel and I was completely charmed from the first pages. I chuckled over some of Claire's hilarious thoughts as she listened to Nicolas explain he was ready to get married. Of course, the keeping it "business" and giving in to their wildly combustible chemistry, back fires for both of them. Both Nicolas and Claire are great characters and I thoroughly enjoyed reading their HEA. Ms. Adams has a pleasing voice that I'm sure I'll be reading again soon
