An imprudent investment in a Golden Dragon franchise and their son’s arrest for DWI trigger an avalanche of misfortune culminating with the murder of Luther Bell, the smooth talking, restaurant promoter responsible for their impending demise. While Stan conducts a preemptive investigation to prove his clients are innocent, he is inundated with lawsuits and claims from their growing list of creditors and must deal with the inevitable marital strife that threatens these once proud families. Then one of Stan’s old flames resurfaces and makes a play for Stan’s affections sending Rebekah in a rage that culminates in a confrontation with the intruder and a .38 special. Cash Call A Stan Turner Mystery by William Manchee
Like how this book starts out: the law firm isn't getting paid for the services they have performed including Jodie the secretary who's so much more than that.
Stan takes a boat in trade for his client 6 month past bill but his wife is not happy, at all.
Like how the clients each get their own chapter so we can find out about their case.
The boys and men are able to enjoy the boat fishing and after he gets back the call comes from one of the guys who's teen son is in trouble, drinking and driving...
With three now working at the office on their own cases financial things calm down but there's a lot of action. So many investigations going on, some entwined.
Love how it all plays out with clues given. Can't wait to read more.
Received this review copy from Top Publications via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Cash Call by William Manchee

I give this one three stars because I have grown fond of Stan and his family within this series, but honestly, there was really just too much going on in this one. Stories within stories being told from POVs that didn't make sense, and loose ends that never were tied off. It almost felt like it had been written (and edited) by someone else. I was disappointed.

I received the book for free through Goodreads First Read

great book, can't wait to find out what happends.

I got partial copy of the book as audio format. Great voices used for the recorded book, they add to the characters personalities and to the story without taking anything away. I thought I am about to finishing the book, but unfortunately I got only part of the book as a giveaway copy. It is interesting book and has a lot of action. The main character has 5 different cases he is working at the same time. He gets involved in as his family’s friend attorney and represents their son in DWI case first and then help them to deal with a restaurant business deal gone sour. The story unravels fast with creditors, murder and diamonds on a picture as avalanche misfortune seem to take over his friends’ family life. The main character is a lawyer with high standards in ethics, but feels bad to anyone with a sad story and wants to help, as a result taken advantage by many of his clients, who forget to make payment to him for his services.
One of his old friends also appears on the picture who wants to be more than friends if possible and also wants to be his partner. She is simply appearing calculated and cynical.
Story feels real and convincing, I feel sorry for the family and misfortune they got themselves into.
Dislike:
Considering how highly intelligent main character is and an experienced lawyer on top of everything, he seems does make some stupid mistakes. Such as trusting to someone who walk in his office and telling him that they found diamonds for him, which were found in his left for estimate pottery that he is trying to sell. Pottery was giving to him by one of the clients as a payment for the services. And then nothing ring his bell when lady make him to go outside of the room when they putting together diamonds in his bank safety deposit box, until they decide what to do next.

Stan Turner returns in another legal adventure created by William Manchee. Stan is having a tough time with his clients paying their legal bills. That is making it tough for Stan to pay his bills. With this background Stan ends up representing a family that has almost everything imaginable go wrong. They invest in a restaurant which goes bad. Money was embezzled by the manager and the guy who talked them into investing is demanding more and more money from the partners. He has made their lives a financial disaster. Add to that a son who is arrested for DWI, the cops let the girlfriend drive the car home and she has an accident in which the other driver is killed. Mom is depressed, Dad is mad. Then the man who got them into the bad investment is killed. Lots of suspects.

Stan also looks to going into a partnership with Paula Waters who is a very pretty friend of his from law school who has always had a thing for Stan. Rebekah is really going to love this. Stan once again puts himself in bad situations for a married man with a jealous wife.

Not his best work but still an enjoyable read.

I have received Cash Call as an audio. I have listened to the Deadly Defiance and have enjoyed the audio very much. This audio started out wonderful until I got to the end of the story. Somehow the story ended without knowing who has killed Luther Bell and what Stan Turner going to do with the diamonds. I don't know if there is an error in recording the audio book or the audio book just ended this way. Guess I will have to make a trip to the library and find the book to see if the story ended this way.

Once again (although I have started with book #9 and not in any order), Stan Turner once again took another full plates from murder of Luther Bell to embezzlement, to a wrongful death suit and the questionable diamonds in the ancient Peruvian pottery. I love the story and am being quite a fan but without knowing how each of these cases ends, I was quite disappointed.

Hopefully there is an error in the audio recording. Someone didn't finish the product before shipping out to market.

I won this as a First Reads giveaway on Goodreads and was surprised to receive an audio mp3 and not a printed book. I listened to as much of the book as was recorded, the first 25 chapters, the book wasn't over, but my audio disk was! It was disappointing to not find out the how the mystery ends.

I'm really enjoying this series and Cash Call is another fun read that goes on my favorites shelf.

One thing though, the kindle version has a lot of errors that should have been edited out. Some of the errors come at critical times in the book and become a distraction. If this is your first Stan Turner Mystery I would recommend any version except kindle.
