Poetry is a hard thing to review because half the time you are hard-pressed to clearly explain what it is you like so much about a poet and the other half of the time you are under obligation to try and explain what it is that there is in the poet's work that is so appealing. Durcan is a tough one to explain. He's at all times funny and dark and strange. His poetry is folksy and disglobal, disconnected only in the only sense that it matters: that we see only what we squint at...anything else past that hardly matters at the moment. It reminds me a little of Wallace Stevens and that ilk.
