Sgt. Tretheway is in charge of air raid precautions in Fort York, Canada. When someone spies lights on the marsh during a surprise blackout test, he investigates and finds a fire burning on a little island. Strange that it should happen on the 13th...Then other incidents mar other 13ths during that exciting year of 1943, and Tretheway sees a pattern forming, a pattern that culminates in murder. But he knows that the murderer is not through with a grand design, somehow linked to the year 1692.

A good quick read but growing up in Hamilton I am confused that the writer references everything being in Fork York but they are all places in Hamilton. I guess to broaden his audience but really does it matter where the city is?

This was a very long "nail bitting" story about a mystery murder in the city of New York. It was a very dark and foggy night night in 1943, the city was practicing a bombardment drill. In doing so every single bright light had to be turned off. This gave one suspicious man the chance to go on a killing spree.
The reason I chose this book is because it sounded very familiar in title. Almost like a movie I had seen befor. When I opened the book and read chapter one I was expecting the famous mass murderer "Jason Voorhees" to appear in the words. But it turned out it was just some random physco dude.
