Funny and heartwarming adaptation of the classic poem. I've been listening to the Travis Tritt reading since I was a kid, and now listen to it with my kids.

Content considerations: references to alcohol, tobacco, incarceration, and ky jelly. I personally don't find any of the references unsuitable for children (only iffy one might be the ky jelly, but that goes over their heads, and even if they ask, it's used for medical purposes like surgery and ultrasounds).

Eldredge has an eye for detail and the caricaturist's skill to reproduce it. Sullivan has a tin ear and a hack sense of humor. (Meter? She ain't even met 'er!) The result is a book too witless and safe to entertain adults yet too vulgar and meanspirited to read to children. Skip the words and lookit the purdy pitchers.

Not to be confused with a similarly titled book authored by David Davis and illustrated by James Rice.

Back almost 30 years ago I worked at a school in Ohio and we did a Christmas study of alternate versions of the Night Before Christmas. Some, like this one, I wouldn't have read to 3rd graders but I did collect quite a few. Giving a bunch of them a reread this season.
