Mr Cuckoo's Clock Shop

Rate this book
This is a book to help children tell time. On each page a visitor comes and asks for a different time of clock; a fiery dragon wants a fireproof horse, Cinderella wants to make sure the palace clock rings 12 times at 12 o'clock, and Olga Octopus. On each page the reader is instructed to move the clock's hand's to a certain place. Several pages also have a hidden mouse under a flap for the child to find.

Mr. Cuckoo's CLock Shop is a book to use for practicing to tell time. I would not specifically choose this book just because it is not very engaging to keep the students interested. On each page of this book it talks about the tasks of Mr. Cuckoo's day and the students get to use the clock on the book to make that time. Giving the students a clock to use to make the time is a great tool to help them practice knowing their times.

This is one of my 4 year old daughter's favourite books. Her dad had the book as a child and it was passed on to her. She loves being able to change the clock and find Morton Mouse. We even get her to read each of the times in the book before she can change the clock. Now as soon as we turn the page she is looking for what time she needs to change the clock too. A very cute and clever book to help kids learn how to read a non-digital clock.

It is one of my treasured childhood books. Today I still have a love of clocks and intrigue with time, weather this book had anything to do with that I don't know. What I'm sure of is my 3yr old son came across the book in my stash, and loves it. It is now in his nightly read rotation. If not for time he is learning numbers with the book.

This book taught me how to read clocks. A quarter century later, I still remember how to read clocks. So I guess it worked.
