Featuring ingenious flaps to lift and a host of zany surprises, an entertaining board book introduces the wonderful world of Bear and his friends--Ojo, the baby bear; Tutter, the mouse; Treelo, the lemur; and Pip and Pop, the otters.
I read this book a lot as a kid. It was one of the first books that was read to me and one of the first books I could read myself. I remember really liking it because it was interactive. Throughout the book there are different flaps that can be pulled up to reveal hidden treasures of Bear’s friends that live in the big blue house with him. Aside from the interactive features, this book does not have much of a story to it. It is based off of a TV show so if the reader does not really like the show or is not familiar with it, it will not have the same effect. It is also meant for a very young age group as it is a board book. I do not see this book being in a classroom but it could be interesting to use with a reader that might be struggling with being engaged because it has the flaps that can be pulled out to add more to the story. The book also has very detailed and bright pictures which could draw an unengaged reader in to at least start to enjoy reading. Other than that, it does not have any extraordinary literary elements that would make it excel in a classroom for teaching purposes.
A great story for parents and children to read together. This book has sturdy flaps and although it's been read a lot by me (and "read" by our girls a lot too), it's still in one piece -- a little worn, but still readable!
