They have interesting facts and excellent maps, but the layout is a mess, and I'm having a better time simply using the index in order to find something. (No duh moment of my year so far: walruses are very plentiful in Walrus Island.) And I'm barely even bothering with their hotel listings, since the ones the have are rather pricey. But if anyone wants to send me money in order to pay for such hotels, I'd be much obliged.

I had hoped this book would be more helpful for my late-September trip. It did provide a heads up that - oops - I'm travelling about a week after a lot of things close for the season. Unfortunately, it isn't very helpful in identifying which of the things it mentions are year-round and which are not. I'm sure I'd have found this book more useful if I were traveling earlier in the year - or maybe later.

I read the Fodor's Alaska 2016 edition, but could not get it to show in Goodreads.

This book (2016 edition) receives some negative customer comments, to the effect that this Kindle version is NOT the real book. It seems that some of the full page color pictures are NOT included in the Kindle version. If that's all, that doesn't bother me too much. Other comments say that this book is a veritable encyclopedia on Alaska. That's what I wanted (and received) from this book--INFORMATION.

Helpful guide for trip planning. Covers a lot of places, but not necessarily in a great deal of depth. I found it useful once I had a general idea of where I wanted to go, and appreciated the background information on Alaskan history, culture, and wildlife. I wish this book had provided more information on hiking options -- this is the one area I really found lacking. I've used other guide books that included trail names, lengths, and difficulty levels in each location, but this book did not. Still, it came in handy and is sure to be a good resource for anyone planning a first-time trip to Alaska.

Like 60% of Alaska's tourists I will travel by cruise ship and this guide has enough information for cruising tourists and the limited time we will be in port. Website URLs are included when further research may be required. Enough pictures of the most common flora and fauna for the different regions are included to use it as an introductory field guide.

I've just discovered that I neglected to review this travel guide when I returned home from Alaska. I remember that I used it a lot during the trip, and especially liked the maps of the different towns and cities I visited. It has a good section on Denali National Park, which we visited for several days. The index is good, as well.

Great guide, I feel like I have a starting place here for anything I want to do in Alaska. While they don't give a ridiculous amount of detail on everything, they give enough that I can choose between what sounds interesting and what doesn't and google from there.
