Fueled by hope and creativity, The Icarus Project has been artfully forging roads and making maps that define our journeys with mental health struggles in the context of a crookedly beautiful world. We're happy to bring to you Mad documents that we create for ourselves as reminders of our goals, what is important to us, our personal signs of struggle, and our strategies for self-determined well-being. Drawing from the input of hundreds of members of the Icarus Project community, this guide (the first of four), examines the intersections of oppression with mental health struggles and will take you step by step through the process of creating your own wellness documents.
a very short 'book' that is nothing but a bunch of questions around oppression (especially in the context of mental health) and answers to those questions by people who are part of the Icarus project or who have suffered oppression first hand. While we do talk about stigma and discrimination when talking about mental health, I guess we also need to think about whether the stigma/discrimination against mentally ill is also a form of oppression that is systemic and needs to be tackled at society level. Good set of questions to make you think!
I think this would make a good guideline for discussing oppression in college classes. It may be useful in HS with the proper facilitator. It offers good examples and allows for your own examples. It also gives ideas how to cope with and help with those experiencing oppression.
It's short but good & comprehensive. It provides many answers from the community & spaces to write personal answers to questions about how we experience oppression & how we can cope & transform oppression. Some parts are repetitive, but it's generally good
Quick pdf read that was highly helpful for guided journaling. Used to map out strategies for coping with depressive episodes and panic attacks. The examples were very helpful for getting started and not feeling lost in the process.
