There is one field of expertise where the British cannot be surpassed. It is the art of the obituary. Don Bradman, legend of cricket died the year before, and Wisden Cricketer's Almacnack 2002 carried articles as well as a long obituary.
I don't know why British pensmiths seem at their genuine best in eulogizing a departed fellow earthling (British or not), but they are.
There were other statistics and the usual bit of sparkling prose or turn of phrase describing some tour or in their select featured cricketers of the issue, but what stays with me is the Bradman dose (and overdose)
