Intercessory Worship: Combining Worship and Prayer to Touch the Heart of God

Rate this book
A glorious spiritual awakening is on the horizon, sparked by the combustible mix of worship and prayer. Dick Eastman calls this combination “intercessory worship,” and in this one-of-a-kind guidebook, he explains how worship-saturated prayer rises like a fragrance before God’s throne to declare His glory and reign over all circumstances, relationships and governments—and he shows readers how to engage in life-transforming intercessory worship. Eastman reveals why intercessory worship is the greatest last-days prayer movement in history and invites believers to join the worldwide Body of Christ in fanning the flames of revival through biblical worship and scriptural prayer. The world will be transformed as the presence and power of the Spirit pour forth from the heart of God.

When I first began reading this book, I had the thought that there was far too much simplicity to it. As I continued to read, I found a whole lot more depth to it than I had originally thought. I had never thought of putting intercession and Worship together but the more I read, the more I realized it went together so seamlessly. This has taken my prayer life to a new level with worship added to it for more power added to without additional force. If you're looking for a book to help guide your prayer life, this is one to add to your arsenal.

This book is about the heart of what it means to pray and worship. It's composed of three parts, each having several chapters. The first part is about the realities of intercessory worship, worship which
- enthrones God by providing a place for Him to dwell on earth in His fullness,
- encounters God by providing an opportunity to meet Him through speechless silence,
- enlarges God by providing an atmosphere to increase our knowledge of Him,
- enjoys God by providing a place of access into the delights and pleasures of His presence,
- enlists God by providing mobilization to release His resources into the needs of people,
- excites God by providing a true position from which we can bring Him pleasure
- exalts God by providing a platform to lift Him up over every need, opportunity and nation on earth

The second part deals with 7 reforms which appeared at the Tabernacle of David in history: continuous worship (day and night), skillful worship (musical excellence), creative worship (new songs and sounds), extravagant worship (radical giving, sacrificing), expressive worship (dancing), open worship (like David dancing on the street) and strategic worship (organization).

The third part deals with rivers of God's glory: intimacy, sufficiency, supremacy, discovery, liberty, humility and destiny.
What I really liked about this book is that it has practical ideas how to combine intercession with worship. I also liked the many quotes from other burning people of God, like A.W.Tozer, John Piper, etc. And then there was the part where God spoke to me related to His Tabernacle... I recommend reading this even if you don't feel called to serve as an intercessor or worship leader.

Our small group did a study based on this book. We had some complete outlines to go with it, provided by our leader. This topic expanded my vision for how important singing and praying in the form of private worship could be. Amazing stories of the value of taking alone time and risking looking foolish because of a prompting from the Lord.
