Once again, AJ has claimed an entire weekend of my life and I’m not upset about it 😂 I could not set this book down.
One thing? You need to read Dakota and Nolan's story.
AJ's debut novel, Crash & Burn, was my new favorite - until Rise & Fall. I was so obsessed with Crash & Burn (and Sterling and Callan) that I didn't think anything could top that love story.
Dakota and Nolan? Fuck.
"I'll always be there to put you back together."
If you read the first book, you'll remember Dakota and Asher. But Asher is a selfish asshole and gave off really bad vibes. Fear not, my friends! Asher gets what he deserves in Rise & Fall. And so does Dakota.
Dakota is caring for her little sister and befriends single dad, Nolan. There's a bit of an age gap, but neither are bothered by it. When Dakota's mom needs medical attention at her sister's 6th birthday party (which Dakota prepped and planned), Nolan steps up. And he continues to step up again and again. And it's not long before someone falls.
This book was refreshing for a lot of reasons. Both main characters had been through the ringer with previous relationships. Both were afraid of letting love in again. One of my biggest hang-ups with romance books is when the two love interests don't communicate. (We're adults, gosh darnit. TALK IT OUT!) For the most part, Dakota and Nolan communicated pretty well - except the one time they didn't, LOL, but it didn't piss me off like other books do. This time it felt necessary to the story instead of "Bam! Drama!" for the sake of drama. And as a divorced lady with a kid who finally found my HEA and prioritizes communication, this was the perfect book.
- Single dad
- Strangers to lovers
- Praise
- Falling fast
- Age gap
- Non-traditional HEA
- Hidden truths
- Healing hearts
** Take care of yourself. Read the triggers in the beginning of the book. It's okay to pass on this one if you need to. I will say, though, this one was handled with incredible care and necessary to the story.
