A great resource for doing your own personal spiritual retreat. Just you and Jesus for 8 days. I don't want to go back to listening to a preacher. So much happier with going at my own pace.
I liked the book, but I don't think that I was ready for its deep prayerful expectations. I believe that I should try it a little later on in my spiritual life. I can see the benefit of using this for a lengthy retreat.
If you are planning on taking a retreat, consider using this book as a resource.
It's a bit difficult to rate this book, having no other guide to the Ignatian exercises as a comparison. I thought at times Green drove home his points a bit too much, [look to the grace of the day, as an example], while at other times, [discernment during consolation], he did not illustrate or explain points very clearly at all. All in all, the book provided an outline for an 8-12 day retreat, but fell short on delivering the direction I was hoping for. Perhaps the best use would be to use this as a supplement coupled with a directed retreat.
One year later, I changed my opinion. In comparison to other works, Green provides enough commentary and direction for one to make each of the retreat days grace-filled. I would recommend this without reservation.
