You can't teach this kind of passion...

Alex Dovington is a man with a secret. The internationally famous jazz musician never learned to read. If the world-and his legions of fans-knew, it would be a disaster. When he learns Cara Williams has been hired to teach him, he is reluctant to follow the plan. The sultry teacher will be given only three days to teach the music legend everything she knows. But the instructor becomes the student when Alex turns their mountaintop classroom into a sensual duet of passion.

Cara will do anything to keep the doors of her Harlem literacy center open. Even tutor the scandalously handsome saxophone player at his romantic weekend retreat. Alex may be schooling her in the fine art of lovemaking, but Cara has her own secret-one that could tear them apart forever....

What a great debut from Harmony Evans. This book was thought provoking, meaningful, and had a wonderful message. The storyline was really originally. I don't think I've ever read the subject matter of illiteracy in a romance book and it was really refreshing. This was a definite page turner. Alex and Cara had great chemistry. Their love scenes were sensual and steamy, and their love story really pulled at my heart strings. This was a great start for this author, and I can't wait to read more from her.

His entire adult life Alex Dovington has kept his inability to read a secret from everyone but his best friend and manager Tommy. Although his career as a jazz saxophonist has brought him money and fame, he has not been happy for a long time.

Unlike her father, Cara Williams cares about helping people. With Beacon House she is able to open a whole new world to people with illiteracy, which makes losing her business all the more heartbreaking.

Cara desperately needs the donation she will get if she can teach Alex to read in three days, but at what price? Although Alex has no idea who she is, Cara knows him and has followed his career for years. The women in his past do not hold a candle to Cara, yet Alex cannot fully trust her or himself, especially with the guilt that hangs over his head. Cara’s heart breaks every time Alex touches her, knowing that as soon as he finds out who she is, he will never want anything to do with her.

When it comes to heat and romance Cara and Alex are star pupils, but they could definitely use some tutoring in communication. Their big “secrets” are a little overblown in my opinion, especially since they were children at the time, and Cara had nothing to do with her father’s job. Adult illiteracy though is a wonderful plot concept, one which I would really like to see explored in more detail between Alex and Cara. Ms. Evans lends a lovely spice and liveliness to her characters, making this a very pleasurable read.

A wonderful debut in which Harmony Evans writes a refreshingly different storyline revolving around the subject of illiteracy (she also does it skillfully so that the hero, in keeping with publisher guidelines, is wealthy despite his handicap). The characters were real, the story was romantic and sexy (I'll never look at a Scrabble board the same way again), and it was just a touching story. Kudos to the author. I'm looking forward to reading more of her work.

Harmony Evans' debut novel "Lesson in Romance" is a true winner. It took me two days to read this book. The subject of illiteracy was a welcome change from any of the romance novels I have read so far. I truly felt the connection between Cara and Alex from the beginning to the end of the book. Really looking forward to reading more from Harmony.

This is the first book I read by Harmony Evans. This book's storyline was okay. I didn't like Alex. I thought Cara was too nice to teach Alex. This is a nice book to read in your free time. I would read more books by Ms. Evans

It was a slow read because it took too long getting to climax of the story.

Well done. It may have been a romance novel but she added a very real subject matter that isn't always addressed in the black community.

Cheesy but cute

Cute little love story a little cheesy with the story being based on a huge unlikely to ever happen coincidence but all in all an ok read.
