Me to the characters of this book: I’m too tired to write a review, you guys have exhausted me. Do me a favour and introduce yourselves. And please state your special talent.
Younger sister of heroine: Hi, my name is Val. I’m a spoilt entitled bitch. My mummy died when I was 15. My daddy hates kids so my older sister took care of me. I have learnt that the world revolves around me and I can do whatever I want. My sister bails me out of whatever shenanigans I get into. My special talent: I’m 18 and don’t know how to adult!
Heroine: My name is … well I can’t tell you because I’m pretending to be Val, my sister since she ran away. I’ve pretty much forgotten my real identity. But it’s ok, I also respond to names like sucker, pushover, doormat, idiot. My special talent: I can mould myself to whatever the next person wants me to be. As long as it’s not a stretch and stays along the line of idiot martyr.
Hero’s nephew aka boyfriend to heroine’s sister: My name is …
Heroine: Wait! I wasn’t done! Isn’t it enough that this book is all about you? Just once, I’d like to able to finish my sentences!
Nephew: Do you mind! I was blinded and left to die at the car crash by your sister!
Heroine: And I had to sit next to you in the hospital, hold your hand, kiss you on the mouth whenever you wanted (which I enjoyed by the way, you’re a good kisser). Then I had to fly to Canada to be with you for three weeks to help you recuperate. Put on a stupid wig so that you couldn’t tell it was me. All thanks to the arm twisting tactics of your lousy uncle, whom I love now forever, by the way. We’ve had a couple of make out sessions and I know he’s the one.
Hero: Aww… I love you too, honey. Wait what… what did you do with my nephew again?
Boyfriend of heroine: While I, as the sole voice of logic, have pointed out over and over to everyone, that you, idiot nephew, are at fault. You allowed an irresponsible 18-year-old girl without a driving license to drive your sports car! And now everyone has to walk on eggs till you’re better, so you can regain your eyesight and man up to your bad decisions! And me? I’ve done nothing wrong! I’m the real victim here!
Heroine: Please, errr… don’t make a scene, err
Boyfriend: Simon! My name is Simon! We went out for three fucking years dammit! Just because I live with my mother and like to have lunch on Sundays with her sister, and wear tweed … Oh, what’s the point! As long as you remember we are on a break while you’re in Canada. Don’t pull a Roz-Rachel-copier-girl stunt on me.
Heroine: Uh-oh
Hero: Oops
Anne Mather: Who is this Roz-Rachel? I only watch bad soap operas from the 70s to research for my romance.
Hero: Alright, everyone, quiet. I’m speaking now and you know how much I love the sound of my own voice. Readers, guess where I’m from? Canada! You think Canadians are the nicest people in the world, don’t you? Well, you’re wrong! Once in a while we trip up and produce a … you think I’m going to say dickhead, don’t you? Wrong again, I’m an idiot!
Me: Yeah, I wasn’t very happy about that. One less idiot in HP land would have been alright. Ok, people, thank you, that’s enough. This is my fourth Anne Mather novel and frankly, I’m done. Never ever reading one again. Evverrr. **flounces off in a huff**
Margaret Pargeter (pouring out 2 cups of tea): Don’t worry, she’ll be back. She said that about me too.
Anne Mather: They always come back. *clinks her cup with MP*
Rhea is another one of Anne Mather's heroines who seems to be cursed by Echo and afflicted with a stutter. She also just seems to go wherever the wind blows; pretend you're your sister...yes sir! Come to Canada...yes sir! Get lost in the mist and fall off a cliff...f-fall off a c-cliff, y-yes s-sir!
I totally thought this book was amazing. The hero hunted down the heroines sister to find out she had disappeared, so he made the heroine do the dirty work because the heroine's sisters boyfriend was in an accident and blinded, so now the heroine was left the play the part. However the hero didn't realize what a mistake that was until he fell in love with the heroine.

I don’t understand the good reviews for this book.
The h (called Rhia) has a younger sister named Len. Len was driving a car without having a driving licence. Her boyfriend Glyn was sitting next to her in the car.
Len causes an accident as a result of which Glyn lies in a coma in the hospital fighting for his life. Len is alright.
Len goes to the h Rhia to say that she lied to the police that she was with Rhia at the time of the accident. And she says that she put Glyn’s feet on the pedals of the car so it would like he was behind the steering wheel when the accident happened.
Rhia’s logic to go along with her sister’s plan to lie, is that it would not be of any benefit to Glyn (who lies in the hospital) if Len would be prosecuted.
I mean, is Rhia kidding? What logic is that? Then you would not need to prosecute anyone, because no harm can be undone. If you kill a person, you can’t make him alive again, so let’s just not prosecute?
After that I really disliked the h. She takes ‘stupid’ to another level.
I tried to read further, but then I read she had to act to Glyn as if she is her sister. So she kisses him and he kisses her and bla bla.
All the time the H is there too, watching, because he is Glyn’s uncle. That’s so sick to keep it all in the family. To kiss and touch both men.
What I really love about this book sis the balance. Of everything. The plot was very good and the character development is fantastic.
I'm in my teens and when I saw it's original cover, I was like "I read an old book?" I didn't mean that in a bad way; actually, It made me appreciate it more because the writing style was quite modern. And I love the author!
I really liked this one. A good story that takes place in both England and Canada. It seems like neither of the criminals in this story were brought to justice, which sucked, because the second one really deserved to be arrested. Not a whole lot of interaction between the H and h because of the circumstances, but their love was believable.
I really enjoyed this, except the confusion about the OW - the hero's sister-in-law. The heroine (21) is kind, one of those girls that get put upon a lot. Her sister crashes her boyfriend's car (she has no license) and cuts and runs, leaving the heroine to face the uncle of the boyfriend. He's the hero (36) and soon attracted to her, but persuades her to go to Canada in the guide of her sister for his nephew's benefit (he is temporarily blind and depressed about it). The heroine has a boyfriend (of 3 years!) but he's a dull sort and he is cross that she's been manipulated by the uncle (he constantly manipulates her himself). Anyway, the problem is the nephew's mother - she is all over the hero. She strokes him and puts her arm around him and he does it back and everyone at the ranch assumes they are going to marry. The hero even lets the heroine think the SIL has the right to be proprietary and yet he kisses the heroine (and more). At the end, we are told there was nothing between them (although he had been attracted when he was 18 and she was 21 when she was newly married to his brother) - but then, why did he make such a huge fuss about her all the time? It made the story a little weak and unpleasant in places. A nice HEA for the main couple and comeuppance for the OW bring it up to 3 1/2 stars.

I revisited this old but good story I was happy to find this as an ebook. I liked the Hero and Heroine the secondary characters are well written I enjoyed this book I hope more of the Harlequin books from the 70s and 80s are made available as ebooks
Could she disguise her love for Jared? Rhia couldn't refuse to impersonate her sister - after Valentina had fled - to aid in Glyn Fraser's recovery. It was Val's fault the young man had been blinded in a car crash. Jared Fraser, Glyn's autocratic uncle, who had flown in from Canada to take charge, saw it that way, too. And even if conscience-stricken Rhia hadn't agreed, Jared would have found a way to make her. Soon, however the simple well-intentioned deception got way out of hand. And for Rhia the problem wasn't Glyn - it was Jared!
