Kylie Jean needs money, so she decides to start selling cupcakes. But her doggie cupcakes can fund a really important causehelping orphan dogs at the shelter!
Kylie Jean wants to earn her own money and decides to sell cupcakes after seeing other kids selling drinks at the yard sales she goes to with her grandparents and mother. She talks her parents into having a yard sale and begins baking. Along the way she hears that the local shelter is going out of business. She decides to give all her profits to the shelter to help keep it open. My students love all the Kylie Jean books and are always asking about new ones. I like that the main character is a girl with her own ideas and a social conscious. Keep 'em coming!
Kylie Jean is starting a garage sale and wants to sell cupcakes. She wants to keep the puppy shelter from closing because not all of the dogs have homes yet.
First off, I want to say that I love the little extras at the end of this book, especially the recipe for the cupcakes that Kylie Jean makes. There are also creative writing type and questioning exercises for teachers to incorporate this book into their classes. ------------ Kylie Jean is a young girl who loves yard sales. I can relate to that, as I absolutely love them myself as well. There's nothing like scouring yard sales for cheap boxes of books or videogames! That being said, Kylie Jean notices something I have pointed out to my parents lots of times.... There is almost always someone selling food/drinks to eat/drink right away at yard sales. From lemonade to fried pies, there is almost always something quick to eat/drink at yard sales. This gives Kylie Jean the idea to make cupcakes to sell at a yard sale, so she talks her father into talking her mother into having a yard sale. But, she finds out that the local dog shelter, Puppy Place, is closing down. So, Kylie Jean puts the two together, and agrees to give all the money from the yard sale and her cupcake sale to Puppy Palace to help keep it from closing. While taking the check to Puppy Palace, Kylie also takes Mrs. Clarabelle, her neighbor, to meet the little dog, Tara. Clarabelle falls in love with Tara instantly, and adopts her. ----------- Back home, Kylie Jean's mother wants to know when she will next be baking and selling cupcakes at a yard sale. She tells her mother that the next time will be her last, as it's time for a *Going-Out-of-Business* Sale. ---------- But, I feel like nothing can keep Kylie Jean down, and that we'll be seeing lots of energetic adventures from this beautiful little Southern girl in the future. Speaking of, I love the Southern feel of this book. They say *y'all* alot, and show a great appreciation of yard sales. They also tell Kylie Jean she has to use her own money for her *business* venture. I get the feeling she's raised in a poor family in the South. ------------------- This book was provided to me via NetGalley as an eBook, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed here are my own.
Cupcake Queen is another book of Kylie Jean series that's up on NetGalley. Thanks to the publisher who has accepted my request. The printed version will be out on February 1, 2013.
This is the third book of Kylie Jean series that I read. Before Cupcake Queen, I have finished Blueberry Queen and Dancing Queen. There are still many books in this series. Although I read the book not in the sequence number, I miss nothing. Because in the beginning there is one chapter where she tells me anything that I need to know. Like she does in the previous book. There is nothing change from this confidence girl. She is still the same girl who loves pink and stuff, who lives in yellow house on Peachtree Lane in Jacksonville, Texas. Something that she never forget to tell is her beauty queen dream. She also tell me about her family including the bulldog, her pet, Ugly Brother.
In this newest story, Kylie told me about a garage sale, where she got the idea to start a cupcake business to get more money. She was so excited and could not wait any longer to start it. Something unique was she made not only a regular cupcake, she also made it for dogs. She thought it would make her own business run better. With her momma help, all things are done smoothly.
It is not difficult to guess where the story of this light book run. I like some parts of the book that show me another side of Kylie. However it makes she looks completely spotless. But I guess fans of this series will not mind about it.
The illustration is still awesome. I like it.
The extra pages is also great. One glossary page and recipe of cupcake are there.
This book is so a perfect book for young reader ages 6-8 and a reluctant reader or the one who are learning English. The word choice is simple enough for a beginner.
More reviews on my blog: Books for Kids Kylie Jean, Cupcake Queen is a cute, girly book aimed at early readers. Short chapters and large printing make this an easy read, perfect for kids just starting out.
There is an entire series based around Kylie Jean, but you don't need to read them in order, because it is not a continuous story. Each book can stand on its own. There are a couple of pages in the beginning where Kylie tells you everything you need to know about her.
With a touch of southern flair, this simple plot is based around the love of good food and helping others. I really enjoyed the way Kylie's mother encourages her to go into business and teaches her about investing in your business and calculating profits. This is a good book for girls to see that they can (and should) try new things and learn new skills.
There is a glossary in the back for some of the bigger words that kids might not know, as well as discussion questions, activities, and a cupcake recipe. I loved those additions to the book.
The beginning was a little slow, and there were some points where I wondered if the author was just trying to fill a word quota. But for the most part, this was a really cute story with a good message.
The Illustrations: Outstanding! I have always loved Tuesday Mourning's artwork, and this was no exception. She has a simple style that lends itself beautifully to this girly story.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
Kylie Jean is the queen of everything. At least she tries to be. This time around she is shopping at garage sales with her grandparents and her mother when she notices that each sale has a kid selling something. She decides that is what she needs to do. She ponders long and hard before settling on the cupcake business. With the help of her mom and brother Kylie Jean creates a lot of inventory. She even persuades her parents to have a garage sale just so she can start her sales. Kylie Jean is sure she is going to become rich in her new business venture. Her priorities change, however, when she visits her friend Mr. Jay at the Puppy Place and finds out he is going to have to close the shelter. Kylie Jean puts her determination and sparkling personality behind saving the Puppy Place. The Kylie Jean series is a fun and shiny choice for little girls just starting chapter books. She has a wonderful extended family surrounding her as well as great people at school and in the community. This wholesome book is full of good values that show kids how to be a bright example to those around them.
Kylie Jean wants to someday be a beauty queen, but for now, she has the idea of being a cupcake queen and going into business selling cupcakes. When Kylie Jean hears her favorite animal shelter may have to close its doors, she then decides to sell her cupcakes to save the shelter.
Marci Peschke has cooked up a fabulous story with Kylie Jean being such a sweet and likable character. I had not read any of the previous Kylie Jean books, but this book was easy to follow and made me hungry for more! Thank you Capstone for allowing me to “taste test” this egalley! I will definitely look at purchasing it for my school library!
I wanted to try this series which looked cute, but I was not impressed. Kylie Jean lives in Texas and wants to be a beauty queen so practices the wave. Everything is "Yes Ma'am," and just didn't seem too real. In this one, Kylie Jean wants to earn some money so decides to sell cupcakes at garage sales. It is a short, early chapter book with some illustrations. Only girly-girls will enjoy it.
This is such a sweet and lovely book for girls! Kylie Jean needs to raise some money and she will do everything to accomplish her goal. The drawings in this book are so cute. I also loved all the little extras: the questions to talk about the plot, the cupcake recipe. Highly recommended!
Love the beginning description about her dog "ugly brother". I actually read Spelling Queen as all the others were checked out. I'm sure this will go as soon as it gets back to the shelves. I can see why the girls like this so much. The humor is fun.
Lucy and I really enjoyed this book. It is a cute story about a girl who starts her own cupcake business and uses the proceeds to help an animal shelter stay open.
