Deke Brolin - Rhol

Rate this book
Deke Brolin is struggling with his life. When he happens across the Sacred Amulet of Rhol he suddenly finds himself in a strange world and soon learns that he is at the forefront of a quest to save the Balance of Five.

On Rhol, unlike Earth, Deke can see his outer soul or Paladin and soon discovers that everyone was created with two souls that act independently of each other, yet are one. Neither can survive without the other.

Through the teachings of his Paladin, Deodatus, Deke learns that he can manipulate the powers within the Amulet in his quest to save the Balance of Five. These powers can come at a cost however, drawing him into dark places that become increasingly difficult to return from.

As Deke discovers each new world throughout the series, he learns the secrets of the Universe, secrets that one could only imagine.

Deke Brolin – Rhol was a wonderfully intriguing read. Upon receiving the book, I immediately dove in and began reading. The beginning reminded me a bit of the start to “The Ocean at the End of the Lane” by Neil Gaiman due to the point of view and the main character returning to an old “home”. Though I knew this similarity would be short-lived since I had read the description of Deke Brolin and thus, was very interested to find out how Deke ends up in the strange world of Rhol. Once Deke unknowingly makes his way to Rhol, he is almost immediately tasked with a very important quest with very little understanding of the new world around him. Deke, as well as the reader, learns of the history and world through concurrent storylines throughout the adventure. For some, switching storylines can be quite frustrating and hard to follow. I have had that problem with some books in the past; however, in this book, I found that in many cases, switching between the storylines fulfilled the purpose of generating a plot twist for both the reader and the characters within the story. It also helped that the concurrent storylines were all significant and equally thrilling. In other books, some of the storylines are boring in comparison to their counterparts and it becomes difficult to make it through the lull to get back to the action without skipping chapters altogether.
Deke Brolin – Rhol is a wonderful addition to today’s fantasy genre. I was hooked from the beginning and eager to continue reading throughout its entirety. The vast new fantasy world with a bountiful history, exciting new creatures/races both good and evil, and the grand adventure of Deke and races of Rhol make it an incredibly unforgettable tale. I cannot wait to see how the story progresses in the next book! I would certainly recommend this book to others who enjoyed and greatly appreciated the fantasy worlds and subsequent epic adventures of the Inheritance cycle and The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

This type (genre) of book is not usually my thing but when a friend loaned it to me and told me I had to read it, I did. I was pleasantly surprised, in fact I couldn't put the thing down. The story-line is a crafty adaption of Fantasy but not to over the top. The characters are well developed and the world that is created around Deke Brolin is believable and interesting. Nevermind whether you like Fantasy or not. If you enjoy a good, fun read then Deke Brolin Rhol is for you!

Thoroughly enjoyed the book and I have it on good authority that a revised edition will be out soon. Looking forward to the next in the series. Got to find out what happens to Deke.

For those of you who like fantasy genre, there's only one dragon left in all of Rhol. There is the search for the Amulet of Rhol and the role it plays in setting Rhol free of evil influence.

Good clean reading that's suitable for any age.
