Whoa mama. Boy, do I feel silly. I grew up on BTAS( Bats the Animated Series), and in that delightful program Matt Hagen, one of several Clayfaces, was a struggling actor looking for a useful facial cream. I did NOT know that Matt Hagen was actually a treasure hunter in the comics. In this fun little children's book, we see Matt Hagen, the treasure hunter. At first I was like "hold the phones, this ain't right," but I looked it up on computers and sure enough, guy was a treasure hunter. VERY INFORMATIVE BOOK. The way that Batman deals with Clayface is pretty twisted, though, I think.

This was not that enjoyable of a read, and the re-imagining of the Clayface origin story was disconcerting too. I wanted to teach my son how to read, not answer questions of why this Clayface was different.

I actually love these Batman stories. The boys in my homework room like them, too.

Clayface is new to us, but by his description he seems to e like the Sandman from Spiderman 3 (film), although he is a treasure hunter gone evil, as a shape shifter. This is a story for Batman Classic and it is full of amusing puns and humor as well as some good history points. Definitely a good one for super hero fans in this Level Two reader.
