This was a nice, sexy little read. Nothing spectacular but certainly entertaining. And it had a bit of an unusual theme: former famous Hollywood child star whose life is on the skids and who is literally on the run meets over-educated, eager-to-please-everyone-but-himself rodeo cowboy.

Dakota Scott's the rodeo cowboy, half brother to Grayson (Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?), and Jay (Roping The Wind). He's on his way back to L.A., hauling his horse trailer with him, when his truck breaks down in a small New Mexico town. While he waits for the local mechanics to fix his truck, he meets an unusual woman (who looks vaguely familiar to him) who's about to shoplift some Tylenol. She appears down on her luck to the soft hearted Dakota, they strike up a tentative friendship, and he offers her a place to spend the night--his motel room. While his intentions are honorable, Robyn, the heroine, has trouble believing it. Nobody in her experience would be that nice to her without wanting something in return, so she thinks if she pays him back with sex he'll keep her around long enough for her to hitch a ride with him back to L.A. There's some unfinished business for her back in L.A., and she figures it's about time she faces it. But Dakota the sexy cowboy is an honorable man, and no way will he take advantage of Robyn, even if she wants him to. So, with a slightly bruised ego, she sets out to tease, torment, harass, and basically be rude to Dakota, until eventually he snaps and has his wicked way with her. Lots of hot sex follows, especially of the oral kind, as Robyn and Dakota make their way back to L.A.

Dakota has a commitment in L.A., filming a commercial for his brother Jay's boot company, and brings Robyn on the set as his assistant. By this time Dakota knows about Robyn's child star career, and the addictions she's dealt with, and he's starting to learn more of her secrets, including her relationship with her sleazy, abusive ex. But Dakota doesn't learn all Robyn's secrets--she can't bring herself to reveal everything--it's too humiliating. And Dakota's such a nice guy, she would only drag him down with her and end up hurting him, and he deserves so much better. And so what if she's starting to fall in love with him and they have hot sex 10 times a night (slight exaggeration)-- he couldn't possibly fall in love with a girl like her.

Ah Robyn, you are so wrong. Dakota thinks you're the best thing to ever happen to him. He likes your sassy, sometimes bitchy attitude. He loves how you let him be himself, warts and all, and don't expect perfection from him. And he can't imagine spending the rest of his life without you. Now will you be able to risk your heart and come clean with all your secrets and trust Dakota's obvious love for you? Will you finally let yourself be happy?

I'll admit I didn't like Robyn at first--she came across as very bitchy and immature. I had no such problem with Dakota--he was a sweetheart from the start, although there were a few times later in the story that he showed he was human and said some insensitive things to Robyn. But in his defense he always felt horrible once the words were out of his mouth, and tried to apologize or make it up to Robyn some way. Robyn did grow on me as the story progressed and as more was revealed about her past. I was really hoping that she would trust Dakota, because I knew he would be understanding and not hold anything against her.

The love scenes were about what you'd expect from an erotic romance--hot and numerous. I will say that the H/H seemed to have a real oral fixation, so if that bothers you, this is not the book for you. There wasn't anything too unusual, some light bondage once and some racy dialogue throughout the book. I did believe that the H/H were falling in love, which is not always the case in an erotic romance.

One other thing to mention was the rather abrupt ending. Things got wrapped up awfully fast, and I couldn't believe it when I turned the page and found out I was at the end of the book. I thought it could have used another chapter, or at least a few more pages. To me it was as if the book was only allowed to be so many pages, and page 266 was the cut-off point. But that was a minor annoyance, and didn't detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the book.

To sum up: likeable characters with some witty banter, fairly original concept, plenty of heat between the H/H, some pretty big revelations from the heroine, and a nice big HEA make an enjoyable afternoon read--4 stars!

Right then, I loved this sweet romance between Dakota (awww kind, sweet, sexy, Rodeo rider, the kind of guy who takes in the stray dog because he feels sorry for it) and Robyn (nice sweet but incredibly *lost* following a career in tv which turned her from innocent child to spoilt brat child star to has been). They meet up in a small town when Dakotas horse rig breaks down and Robyn is trying to make her back to vile agent and 'boyfriend' Damian(shes run away from Damians abussive domineering atttitude but has t ogo home to put her life back on track) . Dakota takes pity on her, pays for her toiletries and buys her a room at the local motel. At first Robyn comes over as a real wild child, brazen and just ever so slightly *off kilter*, however she's fully aware of her faculties and really it's her mistrust of Dakota that's coming thru. She really can't understand why anyone would just want to be nice to her, for years she was surrounded by 'yes' people who pampered to her spoilt celebrity status. Ripped off financially by those who were meant to love and protect her it's hardly surprising she doesn't trust Dakota even tho' the poor guy is clueless as to who she is. Poor old Dakota! he just wants to be nice but finds himself sorely tested with Robyn and his Mr Nice Guy self starts to get fired up and a side of himself emerges that's a bit more tough. Their loving journey takes them from small town to LA where Dakota has a job, during the journey Robyn starts to open up and confides alot in Dakota and he with her.

The lovin' between Dakota and Robyn is hot hot hot and Robyn starts to realize that with Dakota what you see is what you get. But can they come together to make a relationship work, with all the difficulties Robyn has to sort out? The HEA is is just right for Dakota and especially so for Robyn who just needed someone kind and honest to show her love.

This book stayed with me after I'd finished it, heart warming and sweet, a great read for those who like a real love story that's hot! hot! hot!

Riding the Line by Kate Pearce
Paperback - February 3, 2009

4.5 Stars

Riding the Line by Kate Pearce is the third in the Cheek Series about three cowboy brothers. This final installment features younger brother Dakota Scott.

While on his way to Los Angeles to start in a commercial for his brother's boot company; Dakota's trailer breaks down in a small out of the way town. Since it will take a few days before the trailer is fixed, he resigns to enjoy some down time. However, his plans meet Robyn Sparrow.

Dakota reaches out to help Robyn and finds that a simple act of kindness turns into a string of never-ending acts. While Dakota is more than willing to help Robyn, her cold reaction to his help leaves much to be desire.

This is a true opposites attract situation. What happens between this small town and Los Angeles is all kinds of fun. Yet, Dakota can't help thinking that Robyn looks familiar.

Robyn is a washed-out child star. Her career in the spotlight ended with drugs, money loss and being taken advantage by her family. This makes Robyn a spoiled, high maintenance brat.

Dakota reaches out in a protective way. The interaction between these two characters is sometimes funny, heartwarming, unnerving, and very hot & sexy.

I fell in love with Dakota. He is a very nice guy and true to his niceness, his nonchalant reaction to her antics endears him to her and this reader. What will happen when they finally arrive in Los Angeles and Robyn's world collides with Dakota's and his family?

Reading about Dakota was pure joy, but I struggled with liking Robyn. Both characters are well matched and I enjoyed their dialogue, sexy scenes and developing love. The only minor problem I had with the story was the ending. It all came together too fast.

Ms. Pearce's modern-day cowboy stories are well written and fun to read. It's difficult not to fall in love with her characters.

Rodeo cowboy, Dakota Scott, has a problem. His truck has broken down and he’s stranded in small town New Mexico. To complicate matters he’s picked up another stray, this time a woman who needs his help. Robyn Sparrow is a washed-up celebrity, for being the youngest of three sisters who had their own TV show. Now she’s reached rock bottom. When she meets Dakota, she’s desperate enough to promise him anything simply to get a ride back to the West Coast.
The third book in the series and another well written steamy romance. I loved Dakota who was gentle, caring, calm & had amazing stamina! I was keen on Robyn to begin with but the more I read the more I grew to like her. They were immediately attracted to each other & certainly fell in lust but forced proximity saw their feelings become involved. I loved their verbal banter. I also loved that Jay & Grayson were there for Dakota plus we caught up with them. Things certainly don’t go smoothly for the couple but it made for an engrossing read. I did find the ending a bit abrupt & would have liked an epilogue to tie the series off
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

(Where have all the cowboys gone?)

Riding the Line

Where have all the cowboys gone?

This is the third and final book in The Turner Brothers series. Dakota Scott is half-brother to Jay and Grayson Turner. They are sons of the domineering and autocratic Beau Turner who they don't want to have anything to do with. Dakota is a rodeo cowboy on his way to L.A. to film commercials for his brother Jay who makes cowboy boots. His truck breaks down in a small town in New Mexico on a Saturday and he can't get it fixed until Monday. At the convenience store he is stopped at, he comes across a woman named Robyn trying to shoplift some painkillers. She is down on her luck and trying to hitch a ride back to L.A. Since Dakota is obviously going to have to stay in town till Monday, Dakota offers to let Robyn bunk with him at a local motel till he can get on the road.

Dakota doesn't know it, but Robyn is really Robyn Sparrow who was a child TV star along with her two sisters back in the 90's. During Robyn's stardom, her family and everyone around her wanted to leach off of her money and notoriety. She hit the skids and got into alcohol, drugs, and self-destruction. Now she is trying to go home and get her life back on track, but she has a huge chip on her shoulder. She doesn't trust anyone and that includes Dakota who is a nice guy and she just doesn't believe that he can really be who he seems. From her experience, everyone wants something, so she is willing to give him sex to get a ride back to L.A.

After they get to L.A., Dakota designates Robyn his assistant on the film set and only then does he discover who she really is. He also finds out about Damian, Robyn's agent and ex, who physically abused her and is trying to blackmail her. Dakota hooks up with his brothers in L.A. and Robyn gets a chance to observe what true family ties are all about.

A hot, steamy relationship develops between Dakota and Robyn; but can they trust each other enough, so it can be more? I liked the characters of Dakota and Robyn. They were "real" and believable. I thought the ending was somewhat abrupt, but it was still an enjoyable read.

Thank you to the author and publisher for an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided via BookFunnel in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Kate Pearce brings us the story of the third Turner brother, Dakota whose truck breaks down and finds himself stranded and helping out a stranger. As they wait, Dakota tries to be the gentleman and friend while the stranger tries to figure out his angle and how to stay with him long enough to get out of town. As they get closer to their final destination, they maneuver around their snipes, banter, and chemistry. Will Dakota and Robyn get past their insecurities and face their past before getting a chance at a future, or will they allow everything and everyone to get in their way?

Kate Pearce brings us Dakota and Robyn who are total opposites in career and life choices. But when the situation becomes precarious, will Dakota show that he is the man for the job, or will Robyn not allow him in and help her? You enjoy the banter between the two as they circle around each other and see if they will give in to their desires or decide that it is better to leave things alone and to go their separate ways. You kept turning the page to see what one will do and how the other would respond. You even had the chance to meet up with his brothers and see how they were doing when they all get together.

I received and read an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank Kate Pearce for this privilege.

The final book of the Turner brothers series and my favorite. Dakota Scott is the youngest of the brothers. The good guy, always a do-gooder, the peacemaker. So as a favor to Jay he has put his rodeo career on hold and is modeling custom made cowboy boots in print ads. Now he is heading to LA to do a commercial when his truck and trailer breaks down in no name small town USA. At the gas station he tries to see if there is a mechanic to look at his truck. Seeing a women about to steal some ibuprofen, he offers to buy it and whatever else she might need.
Robyn Sparrow, former child sweetheart of a hit TV series has reached a new low. She has been trying to turn her life around. Since she was 14, drugs, alcohol and sex was her norm. But the last 10 years she is finally getting back on track or so she thought. When her agent/ abusive boyfriend wants her to star in a porn movie she runs. Maybe the good guy will help her? Can she take a hand up or is she to stubborn?
Oh yes it’s steamy, but I liked the storyline of Robyn. Yes, stubborn but realizes she is one who has to pick herself up and let the past not determine her future.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #RidingtheLine #KatePearce #TheTurnerBrothers

So good!! Didn’t want to put it down!!! This book is extremely hot, definitely full of drama & full of sarcasm & sass. It’s also filled with pain, regret & remorse as a troubled former child star & a rodeo cowboy find themselves stuck in a small town. Dakota & Robyn are both very strong characters, but are also caring, compassionate, strong willed & dead set on not hurting each other. As we watch the careful friendship grow into a new relationship we see the subtle changes. Their relationship is a journey just as their trip to Los Angeles, one going to help his brother promote his cowboy boots & the other to reclaim her life. Robyn has a past she’s about to confront & find a way to have a new future, one only she has control over & Dakota is hoping he’ll be part of that future. We also got to see Grayson & Lauren & Jay again which was interesting as they all come together to help Dakota & Robyn. Also were given a glimpse of their further story. My only wish was that we got to see the visit with Robyn’s sister & find out if she followed through on the options offered to her. Definitely recommend. I read this book for an honest review.

Smoking hot!!

Riding the Line is a re-release of book three in The Turner Brothers series but you don’t need to have read the other books to enjoy this one. I missed reading the re-releases of the first two books and I never once felt lost. But I do want to go back and read the other two brother’s stories.

This is one smexy story! I’m not going to rehash the blurb here because it does a great job of telling you about the story. I’ll just say that Dakota gets more than he expects when he comes to the aid of a women in need. She looks familiar but it’s a while before he learns who she is. Robyn really messed up her life after becoming a spoiled Hollywood brat but she’s come out on the other side and is trying to keep her act together.

I loved the humor in this story. Robyn and Dakota do some serious fliting and bantering with each other, when they take time out from getting it on. The amount of sexy time is plentiful – oh to be so young again! 😊

An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

Dakota and his Sparrow - In the middle nowhere New Mexico, on a Saturday night, Dakota Scott’s truck breaks down and he’s stuck waiting for repairs until Monday. As luck would have it, Dakota sees “Jane Smith” trying to shoplift something for pain in the gas station store. Thus begins this story between these two. Jane eventually provides that her real first name is Robyn and Dakota is good with that. But what is Robyn hiding from Dakota? When these two make it back to civilization aka Los Angeles for Dakota’s commercial shoot for his brother Jay [from “Roping the Wind”], Dakota realizes that Robyn was a member of a wildly popular TV show called Sparrow’s Nest. From there it’s all downhill … or is it? Can these two stick together through thick and thin? Or are they doomed because of Robyn’s ex? Another great story from the talented Ms. Pearce!

This is the third book in the Turner Brothers series. It can be enjoyed as a standalone but it is connected to the other books in the series and the other Turner brothers do show up in this book. Dakota is sometimes too nice for his own good, always trying to keep the peace and everyone around him happy, even at expense of his own happiness. He's been lucky to be surrounded by family that love him and stick up for him. Robyn has not been so lucky. She is a child actor that has dealt with everyone using her to include her own family. She sunk so low and made so many mistakes she believes no one could ever love her. Dakota loves Robyn's sass and fire but can he break through her protective wall and convince her she's worthy of love. I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest review.

Third and last book in the Turner brothers series.
Dakota is a rodeo star heading to LA for a commercial shot. On the road he meets Robyn, a girl in dire straits and decides to help her out.
Both have secrets (his father is super- famous and she’s a washed up actress struggling with her past)
After a jaded life, she can’t believe there are still good people in the world and for a while she really thinks there might be something good between them.
When they reach LA, her past catches up with her and she must decide between duty to her family and a future with Dakota.
Fluent writing, no boring moments that want you to skip the pages, steamy and at the same time romantic scenes. This book has it all.

Dakota and Robyn

Dakota is on his way to L. A. To feature in an ad for his brother's new line of cowboy boots. But his rig brakes down and it will be a couple of days before he can get it checked over. Robyn is a washed up actress trying to get back to L. A. To sort out her life.
This is where these two meet and soon become friends and lovers, but will Robyn's passed come back, and end any new future she might have with Dakota?
I hope if you read this book you will enjoy it as much as I have.

This is an entertaining story about two people as different as day and night. Dakota and Robin mix like oil and water and yet it is a beautifully written love story. The story describes all of the good and bad that occurs during their unplanned courtship. Their characters are strong and well developed and compliment each other, even when they are at each others throats. I loved the story, sometimes I laughed and sometimes I wanted to cry. This is a great story that is worth reading. I received a free copy of this book via Bookfunnel and are voluntarily leaving a review.

The erotic romance was decent. I liked Dakota. He was a good guy. I could not figure out what he wanted with Robyn. She was unpleasant through the majority of the book.

I spent a lot of time feeling bad for Dakota because he kept being nice to her. I thought it ended skins of fast. Not sure what I was expecting, but it seemed to suddenly end.

I think if Robyn was a likable character, this book would have been much better to me.

What a great story!! This book captured my attention and held it. The story is very well written and is spicy hot. This is the last book for the Turner Brothers series. Dakota is traveling to California to make a boot commercial for his brother who we met in another book. His truck breaks down and in stopping at the store he encounters Robyn and offers her assistance. Robyn is running from her past and exploitations. Both slowly share their childhood experiences and learn to grow from them. There are also appearances by the brothers and their significant others. Loved this story. 5+ stars.

Hot spicy and fun. Not a clean romance book. I had previously read the first two books in the Turner brothers series but not this one. I loved this book! Dakota and Robyn are great together and I loved the way the story evolved and the characters grew. This book was fun to read and very racy so don't read if you aren't into R rated books. Wonderful writing, characters, storyline and revisiting the brothers and the intersting family dynamic.

Robyn Sparrow once had a life many would find enviable. However, she is living a life on the edge of desperation. Dakota Scott never expected that when his vehicle broke down in a small town en route to Los Angeles, that his act of kindness would change everything. The story embodies kindness, growth, redemption, love and passion in an entertaining, and heartfelt journey to HEA. I have enjoyed each book in this series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

I didn't finish the book. I had to force myself and finally gave up at 15% of the way in. I typically love Ms. Pearce's work but the female protagonist is just awful in my opinion. I personally would have slapped her silly and left her on the side of the road myself.

I will continue to try and finish this over time. I don't tolerate people like this in real life so I certainly don't want to read about one.

This last brother's book is the steamiest and most interesting of the three. When Dakota Scott, youngest of the three half brothers meets Robyn Cooper-Sparrow, his rig has broken down on his way to LA to shoot a commercial for his brother's custom cowboy boot company. Because he's a good man and a rescuer at heart he comes to Robyn's rescue. Robyn is on the run, has no money and need's pain killers for her massive headache. He catches her trying to shoplift some and decides to help her out. He then offers her a ride when he gets back on the road. This begins a very interesting give and take between the two of them. She's feisty and sassy. He's turned on by her grit and fire. She ends up spending the weekend with him in the town's small motel room with one bed. He discovers she's also heading to LA so they travel together. It's obvious to him she's trying to keep a low profile and he slowly tries to dig out her story so he can help. Along the way their hearts get tangled too. This was a great story to watch unfold. Each of them got to use their gifts to help the other. Eventually Robyn finds out he's a man who she can trust and help her move forward with her life.

Dakota is on his way to Los Angeles to shoot a commercial for his brother’s boot company & breaks down in an extremely small town , where the only repair shop is closed on the weekends. With no way to go anywhere, he gets a room at the only motel around, then goes to the only store around to get food. There he sees a woman trying to steal painkillers (Tylenol) & offers to buy them.
He realizes she’s down on her luck & possibly running from something or someone, so he offers to let her share his hotel room.
Robyn is desperately trying to get back to LA, so she makes Dakota an offer he doesn’t want to refuse & she accompanies him to lala land, where she’s more known than she first lets on.
When her past catches up with her, will they remain together or will she choose came again & how does her notoriety affect the commercial and Dakota’s chance in LA?

I had an advanced copy of this book. I liked the book. Please be aware this book has a lot of sex scenes in it that are pretty explicit. I would recommend the book, though I liked Jay’s story much better.

Dakota is a cowboy and yet his brothers have set him up to do a commercial - he finds a girl who seems abused and broken - he has no idea she was a famous child actress but he sure enjoys her help with shooting the film! Another great book by Kate - I read a bookfunnel version a freely leave my opinion!

The fire burns bright and the heart runs wild in rodeo country. Riding the Line is the culmination of the human spirit and a crazy little thing called love. A duo of lost souls, A rocky romance and a undeniable passion that refuses to flame out. Pearce ends the Turner Brothers series the same way it began. With explosive personality and the heart of a champion.

A gripping read. I loved the character of Dakota, and was cheering for Robyn to let him into her life. It’s a story of redemption and tender love, with a good spicing of erotic episodes in the mix. Very satisfying, and very well written.

This is the third book in the Turner Brothers rodeo series. This book was originally published in 2009. This is the last in the series and it was wonderful. The characters are spot on for the storyline and the pace is fantastic. It was a wonderful way to end the saga.

Broke down…

A metaphor for Robyn and a reality for Dakota’s truck.
