The Strong Women / Mitchell Pappas Mystery #1

The Forgotten Mission: A World War II Cold-Case Mystery

Rate this book
A WWII cold-case mystery.
What was the deadly secret of Shuller's Land? The last crop on the Long Island farm was planted in 1942, the year the land died from the horror of that one long night.
Decades later, the abandoned weathered barn that leaned precariously from old age still waited for a strong wind to complete the collapse before someone discovered its horrible secret.
Investigator Mitchell Pappas found artifacts at the farm belonging to World War II German spies. So began his mission to unravel the mystery of the forgotten farm and the disappearance of the spies and the farmer's teenage daughter, Melissa.

While working in a secluded house so he can finish writing his next book, Mitchell Pappas discovers that there might be a mystery right under his nose. He finds a truck in a gully with a German Luger in it and a dagger and wallet in the barn. When he isn't writing his mind goes to trying to figure out what happened on the Schuller Land and if there is mystery here to solve.

This was just okay for me. I am not sure why I didn't like it more. Not sure if it was the style of writing or the characters. It just didn't strike a chord with me. Maybe the story lacked something. Just not sure.

I enjoyed reading this intriguing mystery. I loved the idea of a writer renting a secluded hideaway and then discovering a German Luger, Nazi military identification papers, and the story of a mysterious girl who once lived there; then vanished from the land, not wanting to be found. What is the secret she's hiding? You'll have to read this well-written mystery to find out.

An intelligent story filled with mystery and intrigue. Couldn't put the book down till the last word.
A book well worth reading. Look forward to reading more books by Gus Leodas.
The Forgotten Mission would also make a great screenplay.

Worth the time.

Good plot. Enjoyable read. Some sections were stressful, and some simply didn't seem believable. Great ending where all ends well.
