Naked, bound and in chains, at the mercy of the man who purchased her—body and soul—for the next 30 days. Carly Abrams, at a financial dead-end, has gathered her courage, exaggerated her experience and signed on as a submissive sex slave at an exclusive BDSM auction house.
Adam Wise is gorgeous, filthy rich, sexually dominant and used to getting exactly what he wants. He has a fully-equipped dungeon and water bondage chamber in his home, all of it waiting for the woman who will submit to his darkest sadistic fantasies. With no interest in the emotional complications of romance, bidding on a highly trained sex slave strikes him as the perfect solution.
From the moment they sign the contract, Adam subjects Carly to sexual torture and BDSM scenes that push every boundary—physical, mental and emotional—leaving her at once terrified and longing for more. Neither counts on the emotional impact and deep sense of connection such a relationship entails, even if Carly is just a sub for hire. Each day takes the pair deeper into a dark and sensual journey. In the struggle of wills and the tangling of hearts that ensues, both Adam and Carly must find the strength to face their secret fears and the courage to seize that most elusive and dangerous of dreams—love.

This is a harcore BDSM romance with some fairly strong edgeplay including water bondage – that is giving over complete control of your ability to breathe to another person. It’s not for the faint-hearted that’s for sure but it’s important to remember that the action in this book is completely consensual.
Carly, down on her luck, has signed up to be auctioned off as a sex-slave for a high fee at an exclusive BDSM Auction House. Despite being deeply submissive and masochistic, she has lied about her experience in the BDSM lifestyle to get the position. She catches the eye of Adam who buys her for a one month contract. Adam is an independently wealthy man and a sadist dom who is tired of women who only want him for his money and position and decides to make it more formal by buying what amounts to not much more than a very expensive but kinky whore.
What follows is erotic BDSM power exchange, no strings attached sex – a formal contract between two people. Adam is quite the sadist and lays out a rigid timetable and strict code of conduct for Carly to abide by. She does her very best but her lack of experience is very telling and she fails, constantly, to control her orgasms and Adam is able to revel in his sadist delight in punishing her for this. If you enjoy reading strong scenes of sadomasochism – you’ll definitely enjoy this.
This is the first time Adam has taken out such a contract and is unaccustomed to complete emotional detachment in his D/s scenes and finds himself becoming more and more emotionally invested and, as such, is beginning to lose his control and detachment. He starts to see Carly’s value not only as a submissive, but as a woman and a person. Subs often fall hard for their doms due to the deep trust required in this kind of relationship and Carly is no exception – she is developing a strong attachment to Adam and there doesn’t seem to be anything she can do to stop it.
I enjoyed watching the developing relationship between them and, as Adam attempts to reassert his control, he pushes Carly too far and their contract reaches crisis point. There’s not huge character development in this one, nor really a very dynamic plot but there are plenty of deeply erotic and very hot scenes of consensual BDSM action which is exactly what I want and expect from this kind of novel. So, this is a sweet BDSM romance which very much pushed all my buttons – it pays to remember that this contains strong scenes of consensual BDSM and is intended for a mature audience.
What kind of woman would sell her body for one month to a random stranger for 35K? This would be a desperate woman who is down on her luck. Carly Abrams lost her job over a year ago and she's now unable to make rent in New York. With some mild experience through boyfriends and a few trips to BDSM clubs, she signs on to be auctioned off through Erotic Auctions. This elite BDSM auction house catering to wealthy patrons only takes experienced professionals. Carly is not qualified but she's determined to make it work.
This set up is interesting. It's definitely a BDSM fantasy with a Pretty Woman-esque flavour. Even the author, Ms. Thompson makes this reference. Are there really auction houses that cater to rich handsome men? Possibly, but this reader is not in that echelon and would never be able to confirm it. For a fantasy, this is a very good one which is quite enjoyable.
Ms. Thompson does an excellent job of portraying a new D/s relationship between a Dom and a submissive. The possible failures in communication are all too realistic. It's nice to see the point of view from both the Dom and the sub. The reader can see the Dom is not omniscient and can make mistakes. Now, this is an idealize situation which shows what a good Dom could do when he makes a mistake. This is a romanticized view and very appealing to most submissive leaning females. From a BDSM perspective, this story was spot on.
For example, the demonstration of a trigger is excellent in both how it could happen, why it could happen and how to recover and move on from one. This is rarely covered in BDSM fiction. For this not to be a lecture but a part of the book is well done. Some of the fetishes included in this story are also less common and all presented in an erotic and sensual way. This makes it more palpable for those who are just exploring the BDSM genre. For the more experienced BDSM reader, it's a delightful treat.
The characters, Carly and Adam are both designed with good thought. There are no "sexual" abuse traumas or "mental" health issues which is much appreciated. Instead, the reader is treated to ordinary people who make mistakes and survive. (Okay, Adam is not exactly ordinary, but there are rich men like him. Just none this reader is intimately familiar with on personal name basis.) The dynamic and ultimately the power exchange between the two is lovely to witness. I highly recommend this book to kinky readers who want a sensual read with good character and world building.
I read this as part of my taboo-twister reading challenge with the BDSM reading group where the criteria included M/f domination and watersports...this easily met the first criteria and just met the other.
Premise of the very rich man -Adam purchased Carly for thirty days at a slave auction as his toy to feed his sadism and sexuality, then drop at the end of the contract time. Carly, the financially poor and masochistic subbie, again often stereotyped doing this for the money...yet for some reason it turned into quite a good read.
It incorporated some less than usual equipment in Adam's dungeon, a cock box and a water bondage tank.
Emphasis is put on developing Carly's orgasm control. And I had to admit I would have been in her shoes for this, and probably failed just as miserably...say I with a big grin on my face!
The actual water tank, being both bound, and putting another in control of your breathing and life is something I find both dangerous and as it is not a sexual thing but total submission, the handing over total control to your Dom/Sir/Master or vice versa with Domme's too, it is that total commitment that your submission to your Dom matters more than your life itself. This I can sort of admire, but know it isn't within me and this actually plays on my mind and sort of freaks me out some too. Too much room for error with release v drowning...ugh ugh no thank you.
I liked the friends of Adam and that Adam is man enough to turn to another more experiences than he and can still admit to himself he is in the wrong. An admirable trait.
So yes, overall I was pleased with the story and enjoyed it too. As such I give it just four stars.
I enjoyed this book very much. This was Claire Thompson at her best in my opinion, both edgy BDSM and sweet romance. The characters were human, not just one dimensional roles of Master and slave and they grew through their experiences.
If I have any complaint it's that the time period involved was unrealistically short from meeting to declarations of love - a common problem in romances. Although it was a short book, it would have made the feelings between Adam and Carly more believable had more time passed than less than one week.
The humanity in the characters was particularly welcome. BDSM stories seem particularly prone to defining characters by the roles they play, often making it difficult for me to relate and difficult to understand what they see in each other. The author did a particularly good job in this story combining very hot and heavy BDSM scenes with a romance that I could celebrate. The basic plot was similar in many ways to the one in Enslaved, but in this story the trust between slave and Master was earned (there had been more time passing by the very end of the book).
I highly recommend this book to those who like their BDSM edgy and their romance sweet.
Think Pretty Woman with lots of luscious pain and domination thrown in. I really enjoyed this one which dabbled both in the harsher D/s undertones and S&M pain *and* in the erotic romance category. I enjoyed the Dom Adam was when he started much more than what he kind of evolved into - I took a star off for that as he seemed so not the type that wouldn't plan extensively and honestly. However by the end he was back at it and back to his old self but tempered with love. Carly was o.k. and I appreciated being in her head. I thought the BDSM scenes were hot and tantalizing. For those that can journey into a bit harsher (not real harsh..but he clearly is a sadist to her masochist) tone this one should satisfy!
In this disturbing tale of desperation and exploration hard limits are virtually non-existent, because for Carly, they can't. Carly is down on her luck. She is out of a job and has become desperate to earn some extra money. When a friend tells her about an opportunity to sell herself as a sex slave for one month for a large sum of cash, Carly jumps at the opportunity. She tells herself that it is just one month. She finds herself agreeing to do more than she ever imagined to make someone else happy with the idea that it is just a short term arrangement.
Adam is tired of trying to find the right person when he is never sure if he can trust them. He is wealthy and has had a string of women who are only after his money. Adam has a sadistic streak and enjoys extreme play in the bedroom. He takes a chance and decides that he can get his needs met without the expectation of a "normal" relationship by buying a slave.
Carly has no idea what she is on for and almost immediately finds herself in literally over her head. This story has been described as a darker version of "Pretty Woman" and I would agree.
Overall it was a good read. I think some may be turned off by Adam and his sadistic ways. He struggles and makes mistakes. Carly is desperate and willing to do more than she normally would because of her desperation. This lends a very dark edge to the book that some readers may find offensive.
This book is about Carly who needs money as she has lost her job and is so far behind in bills that her room mates are going to kick her out. After talking to her friend, it come to light about being apart of Erotica Auctions to be a sexual submissive slave...
Right to start of with in this book there were both good and bad things I liked about it. I found the BDSM kinda light, which ain't a bad thing but I like for things to go bump in the night lol... Compared to other books I've read about BDSM, this was light and I enjoyed it I really did, but after reading Frog from Claire I really expected another WOOOW book and It didn't deliver for me.
I wanted something more from this book and it only made me go meh, it was Okay and I only continued with it because it was apart of my challenge. I found myself liking the characters and hating Adam all at different times in the book which made me skim pages and still not miss out on something or even anything because it was repetitive!!!
The main thing I wanted to read was the watertank bit for breathplay and it felt rushed, one minute she's being lowered and after having a little thought to herself she's being lifted. Yeah it didn't do it for me but it was still an okay read...
I love BDSM and some parts were really good along with great writing and details but all in all it weren't enough.
Not exactly the most original concept: A man buys a woman to be his slave for a month. But it doesn't have to be if you do it well.
The reason the Auction House wants to make sure that someone wants Carly to be experienced is because if she panics right from the beginning it reflects bad on them. Actually getting someone who was able to make it through the training and hasn't become jaded would make for a much better experience to me although I am sure that not everyone would think so.
Adam was a little cookie-cutter - the guys who has dommed lots of women but never found the one he was looking for and partly because he didn't think she was out there. I gave him a lot of credit for being willing to listen to James and Amy (I love Amy because she was a great example of how someone can be a submissive but not a doormat) at some key moments.
Finally, it was nice to have a nice little love story that wasn't light on the BDSM. Nothing I found excessive but definitely not stuff for beginners either.
I'm usually not a fan of hard core BDSM books only because I've found many of them are lacking that element of emotion that I want in a story. I've been pleasantly surprised with some, but this story left me feeling major empathy for Carly. "You must ask for permission to eat, drink, use the toilet..." shit should she ask for permission to breathe... Adam uses his role as a Dom to keep his slaves or subs at a distance. He's emotionally stunted and quite frankly an asshole. Being firm is one thing, but when he pushes Carly too far and then pretty much blames her for it.. that pretty much says asshole. He finally figured out his feeling in the end, but for me it was too little too late.
On a high note, their scenes were extremely hot. That hot wax scene.... His sadist was a perfect match for his masochistic streak in that regard but then he always manages to take things a little too far. I just didn't like Adam, so maybe that had a lot to do with it.
This story was pretty tame in comparison to other dark erotica I have read.
My favorite part of the story was the actual Auction and learning how the MC became desperate enough to sell herself.
The story had its share of BDSM scenes, delayed orgasm training, breath play and a water chamber, some of which I thought might push my limits but they didn't.
I was disappointed when the book then took a turn and became another romantic drama, I wasn't expecting so much angst. If you enjoy a BDSM, slave story with angst and a HEA you will enjoy this one.
Footnote: Amazon has this story listed as 224 pages. However I read it with 4 hours so think it is more likely to be around the 112 page mark as per Goodreads.
This book was ok for me, nothing amazing. I liked the main characters but the book is short so we don't get to know them as well as I would have liked. Also there is some hardcore BDSM in this book, probably the most hardcore I've ever read and it was a bit too much for me.
This was adequate, the prose mostly fluent, though not extraordinary. The characters were likeable, but somewhat distant, the story arc was insta-love with a pushed limit. A bit like a BDSM version of Pretty Woman without the "cute" and complexity of either Julia Roberts or Richard Gere.
This was a sweet read, even though it had some pretty strict BDSM. When you have nothing, you have nothing to lose. Carly doesn't think twice about expanding her reality a little bit on her application to be sold off, because she really has nothing to lose. Having lost her job, she then lost a place to live, and everything she owns is in her car. On stage at the auction, she makes eye contact with one of the 10 buyers. He notices her, and the sparks fly in that brief moment.
Not surprisingly, he ends up buying her. From the moment she is in his car on the ride to his house, his ownership of her is demonstated. Not surprisingly, both have trouble staying in the lines they drew for each other. They are strangers embarking on a relationship that involves trust. Both can't keep their emotions out of the way. He wants to comfort her, she wants comfort from him, then the reality of their situation faces them both. They keep it up for a while, but it isn't sustainable.
Luckily, Adam comes to his senses, and it is a good thing, because Carly is falling fast. He catches her just in time. Then, they really can, start the relationship they should have had from the start!
This was definitely my last Claire Thompson romance. There's something inherently creepy about her doms *shudder*. Mr Romance this is not, he has the emotional age of a teenager. Thompson's brand of BDSM is not truly my cup of tea and this dom definitely wasn't dream-worthy. D-
So 3 stars on this one. It was just okay for me, not that great. I didn't feel the love between Adam and Claire. Maybe because this was fairly short. But, I'd still recommend others reading it.
Note: The new title is “The Master & the Auction Sub”. My kindle edition changed to match the new title & cover.
This one was good, although a bit short for my tastes. The beginning was a nice slow build, but the conflict and resolution felt a bit rushed. Total contrast from the last BDSM book I read. This definitely had a romance component, a sweetness.
This was also fairly realistic. (Again, as compared to my last BDSM read which was total fantasy level BDSM.) I liked both the master and submissive as individuals, not just in the roles they found themselves serving.
I should back up and explain the plot. Carly (a submissive & masochist) signed up for a slave auction whereby she was sold into slavery for the period of one month to the sum of $35 thousand. Although, bright and educated, loosing her job in a law office made this a sort of last chance proposition for her. She went all in.
Adam, Carly's new master, was a rich, lifelong bachelor who had been burned by love early on and thought a simple contractual relationship would be better for his heart and (long term) his wallet.
This was the safe, sane, & consensual version of BDSM, with mentions of birth control, testing for disease before the relationship started, and a safe word. The water play (actual water, not golden showers) was the only kink that was fairly novel for me. Otherwise the BDSM and D/s were fairly typical.
Carly slept across the foot of Adam's bed, not on the floor or chained or caged, so again, there was a sweetness from the start.
I also appreciated the fact that there was no slut/whore/cunt talk. In fact, I found this book after reading a message board thread about people's reaction to humiliation.
P.S. My second book by this author, though I read the first before I joined Goodreads, and I never reviewed it elsewhere, so my memory of that book is vague at best. (And the subsequent rating for that book, a best guess based on my memory of the book.)
In the end, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I still wouldn't say I enjoyed reading it and it most definitely won't be a repeat read for me. The thing that bothered me the most was the premise of the book itself. I should have known that a book about a paid for slave would not turn out well. If the couple in this book had been together for awhile and were in a committed M/s relationship then this would have been a good book. But since these were two people who had barely known each other a week, some of the things that happened in this book were just insane. No person who has no experience with any sort of edge play and certainly not anyone who doesn't have a deep foundation of trust in their partner should submit to 75% of the things done in this book. And ultimately that is basically the moral of the story, but by the end I just felt like that so many things had gone wrong that they both would have been much better off if they had cut their losses, learned from their mistakes and moved on. I also think the book could have been improved if the author had shown more of the transition between them starting over from scratch and her doing a big edge play scene in the epilogue that finally goes well. While I still personally wouldn't have forgiven him, I think it would have been more realistic if that process had been shown. ETA: I thought it was funny that about halfway through the book Adam says, "I will never give you more than you can handle." And yet 3 times throughout the book he does just that. By that point I was already fed up with him, so that line just made me snort in disbelief.
Spoiler Ahead This was a good book that I have had on kindle for awhile. Carly Abrams needs money so she signed on as a submissive sex slave at an exclusive BDSM auction house she also lies about her experience she doesn't have any. When she catches the eye of Adam he buys her for a one month contract. Carly does her very but her lack of experience gives her away and she fails alot to control her orgasms and Adam gets off on punishing her for this. When he starts to see Carly's worth not only as a submissive, but as a woman and a person. Carly starts to fall hard for Adam and she can't stop it. This was a good read the scenes were hot and hardcore. I love reading this author. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.
💌 — this book was written very well and had a deep connection of building trust and also not being afraid. I love the way the characters were portrayed and the book definitely had my heart fluttering.
I loved this book, but for me it was slightly too short. I found the pace, fast and intense and at times I felt rushed. I found myself just getting a feel for the book and where it was going, and then all of a sudden it was over. The sex and BDSM was mild, but great to read. There was no build up around the break up, and we were not privy to the water/ breath play at the end, so I felt slightly detached from this, but saying that I did enjoy the book and found it hard to put down. I would definitely read it again, as I did enough this, and found I could loose myself within the story.
I hate short books and this was one. The story was pretty lame in my opinion and the fact that they fall in love with each other so quickly whilst he is treating her like a dog doesn't wash with me. Maybe I am just a sucker for a bit of romance then the rest can follow....
The Auction was just OK for me. I thought the BDSM dynamic a little bit simplistic and I got really confused when, after a week of virtually non-existent conversation, both the hero and the heroine starts thinking and talking about love...
A decent read. Fit the mold of most D/s fantasy novels. The rich strong Dom rescuing the poor lost submissive. But it was worth the time it took to read it.
This was an excellent story and one that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. Carly has only limited experience in BDSM play, but as she is in desperate need of money, she falsifies her experience to get into Erotica Auctions. Adam intends to bid on Nina until Carly catches his attention. Older and not really his type, there is just something about her he wants to explore. Adam thinks he has purchased a professional, so cannot understand Carly’s lack of self-control and discipline. It is only when Adam sends Carly away that he realises what he has truly lost.
Carly had heard about the slave auction and that they were always looking for beautiful, submissive women to train. Carly had no real idea of what a master/slave relationship really entailed, but the trainers must have seen something in her to allow her to complete the course and be part of the auction; nevertheless, the experience had been intense and rigorous. Carly had been given last minute instructions on auction decorum and expectations, but she cannot take her gaze away from Adam, who up until then had been focusing on Nina’s dossier. Carly had caught and held Adam’s attention; there was something about her he wants to explore further. Carly feels a raw power emanating from Adam and finds herself drawn to him in a way she doesn’t expect. All Carly’s training and discipline completely deserts her when faced with Adam’s skilled, relentless attention; neither can she obey his basic rules. Can she really handle whatever this man has in store for her? Carly has a high tolerance for pain, but staying still and quiet would be her real test and she has to prove she is more than just a masochist; she has to show Adam she is an obedient and submissive sex slave even though she has no idea if this is true. The sadist in Adam thrills to the power and passion of taking control of another person. While Adam has Carly in his power, he intends to use her in ways he might not dare with a lover, giving free rein to all his darkest, dirtiest fantazies; he would test her full endurance and her obedience. Time and experience has taught him patience, but while Carly is responsive, she lacks control; he would teach her that control, along with all the other tortures he has planned. Adam expects more from Carly because he believes her to be a professional submissive, so her lack of discipline and self-control only leads to endless punishment. Carly cannot let Adam know just how untrained she is, because he will send her away. When matters escalate, Adam blames himself, eventually realising his futility in entering into this type of arrangement. But it is only when Adam sends Carly away that he realises he has made a mistake; he told himself it was to protect her, but that was a lie. Was it too late to rectify matters and was there any chance they could work together as equals? A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
Where the training is intense and the contracts absolute?
Let’s take a beautiful young and vibrant woman with very limited experience in the BSDM world, who is down on her luck. She is filled with desperation to just get her life back on track, anyway she possibly can. Opportunity strikes in the most unlikeliest of places - a BDSM Auction house. Where the training is intense and the exchange of contracts between The Auction House, Master and Slave are absolute. Claire Thompson will take you on a journey that is dark, it’s gritty, it’s intense. However, despite how absolute contracts are, no matter how intense the auction training was… Carly finds herself in the hands of a Master Sadist. Adam is very clinical in what he wants and what he expects from Carly at all times. For Carly and Adam…their days will be all about learning to have open and honest communication of our true desires and what fears we have. The level of the play that Adam craves, is an intensity that not only demands trust but it needs to have your fears exposed or the consequences are dire! Carly is apprehensive, she knows she is hiding her experience and fears from Adam. Though she is intrigued by the opportunities Adam presents to her with all she has because at the back of her mind the payoff is worth it. However… things start to go horribly wrong, as the intensity heats up and the level of emotions between two people become more. Do you rise above those challenges and take charge or or give in and run from them? Actions always have consequences. Claire writes with passion and focus. Her words and scenes are highly descriptive, the content beautifully explained for those that may not have an understanding of this lifestyle. You feel the fears, the emotion and tension, frustrations and angst of the characters. this is a relationship that is not to be entered into lightly.
If you love a read that is darker in content and darker than usual BDSM play… take Carly’s journey with her, as you find yourself turning these pages wanting to know more and see where Adam takes her and what it takes to be a submissive slave/sub to the man, the sadist, the Master, who captures her undivided attention.
Hard-hearted billionaire dom buys a slave at an auction for her service for a month. He has a past that has left him jaded against love and relationships, so he settles for an emotionally-unattached experience that ends at the completion of the contract. This is the heart of the story. While I’m not opposed to the disenchanted billionaire Dom and down-trodden female trope, I am confused about the relationship and plot holes left in the story.
Carly Abrams is desperate and in a financial crisis after losing her job and agrees to auction herself as a slave for a hefty fee. Her experience as a submissive is minimal and the training she gets from the agency, Erotica Auctions, is only one week. She leaves out some very important facts about her limits in her file, I think because she fears the agency might not accept her for the auction. Still, that omission is just a red flag and dangerous.
Adam Wise is a business magnate who buys Carly. He has a level of intensity and unwavering control. At the beginning, how he deals with Carly feels so much like bullying. Yes, I know he wants a toy, expendable, and temporary. Nothing else. But Adam never makes an effort to talk with Carly about her limits or establish trust before he begins slapping her around. Throughout, Adam scenes with her doing things that insight her fears, but Carly never tells him the truth because she doesn’t want to disappoint him. Though I like that Adam apologizes to Carly after a particular scene that leaves him shaken and realizes he’s neglected to give her aftercare.
At the point when Carly feels affection for Adam, I was not convinced because he did nothing remotely demonstrative. We get a tease about Adam’s past but not a clear picture why he is disillusioned about love. We never get the truth behind Carly’s past tragedy that gives power to her fears. There were too many punishment scenes and not enough romance. Strong BDSM elements. So. Love the author, love the writing, the story not so much.
