Trigger warnings: violence of death, self harm scars
I really wasn't sure whilst I was reading K: Memory of Red if I liked it or not. At first, I was very confused by what was going on, I didn't understand which character was which and the plot seemed to jump around quite a bit. I wondered that it might be down to me reading the K series in the wrong order, but around chapter 3, I started to understand more.
The characters are quite deep, not as much as I'd like to see, but deep all the same. The plot line seems to be non existent at this point, seeming to be a new plot every chapter. The art work is quite good, but not the best I've seen either.
Honestly, this manga reminded me of 文豪ストレイドッグス 1 Bungō Stray Dogs 1 quite a lot, and I would recommend that over K: Memory of Red, however, I wouldn't not recommend this book. It's not that bad, but it's not amazing either.
I'm unsure on this manga, in all honesty, and I'm hoping the second volume picks up. I would recommend this more for people that are newer to reading manga, as the plot seems quite weak after you've read a lot of really amazing manga, but again, this manga isn't bad. I can't quite give an opinion, and I think this is one of those manga that you have to read yourself and see how you like it.
Re read for Manga a Month - re-review - 4/5 - 2 March
Now that I've read this series before, it was really enjoyable to sit and read this again without the confusion I had when reading it for the first time. I was able to step back and appreciate the characters more, and realise just how deep they are. They all have beautiful personalities, ones that shine through and some that I see within my friends every day. Homra is a stunning organisation, and it's written and drawn really well.
The plot is more understandable now. There is one running plot that doesn't show up much - within the first chapter, anyway - but each chapter focuses on one thing, and it all wraps up near the end towards the actual plot. This is why I knocked a star off of 5 stars. It's very hard to remember the plot of the manga, even though I've read it before and know exactly where this is heading. In fact, it's hard to see where this manga will head, having read it or not. This volume wraps up neatly, without any cliffhangers and could easily be read as just one volume for the manga.
Even so, I loved re-visiting this and I can't wait to re-read the rest of the series!
Prequel to the anime. Very good. The pics are very detailed, while the stories are short they get a lot across. Compliments & really fills in some of plot holes in the anime, as well as "filling out" the characters that get less screen time.
The manga starts when Shohei walks into a bar and asks to join the Homra's organization . He has his own reasons for wanting the powers of the Red King. But it is an honor that need to be deserved. Be worth of them or die. His fate will be sealed while shaking hands with the inflamed ones of Mikoto.
In the first two volumes published for the moment, the reader follows a group of young people who act like a big family with Mikoto at their head. Very taciturn, he's kind of a mob boss that has the powers of a demon. Really quiet and lonely, but if you touch any of its members, he shows extreme violence and no mercy at all. It is therefore a mysterious hero that arouses curiosity ...
It also focuses on the passion of Totsuka for shooting everyday life of the group. Gradually advancing in the reading, one realizes that he is the memory of the organization with all the souvenirs he had stored with his videos. Strange passion that is best understood in the second volume, when the author reveals us why it is memories...
I really loved this manga. It tells you more about Homra and it includes Totsuka a lot. They also talk about how everyone joined Homra and they actually go more in depth into it. Its kind of like a 'slice of life'. They include much more details than in the anime. Overall it was very enjoyable.
At the start felt i was missing something by the end realized one should only read it after having seen the anime series. I did enjoy reading it and am sure would have liked it more only if i knew about all the characters before hand. All through out the manga there is a feeling of tragedy coming, the setting and pace is beautiful.
I did enjoy reading this. I couldn't keep the characters straight at all, but I liked each one. Some of their positions in the Homra are unclear, but it was an enjoyable quick read. Not too sad or emotional. Not really happy-go-lucky either. Just something to pass the time.
