My second short story by this author but this one didn't quite work for me. Ok we have Eloise a woman suffering from a curse placed on her by her ex husband Pete. Now I'm not quite sure why as he's the cheater and he's moved on so it didn't make sense to this reader. The curse itself targets anyone who dates Eloise and as she's got an important party at work she really needs a date. So off she trots to a paranormal protection agency ( why ? ) and when asking for an escort meets Wolf Shifter Jared. Jared has a unique sense of humour but upon seeing Eloise he's suddenly rather hungry ! What follows is a date with a difference and an ending that had me rolling my eyes !
Look if you enjoy dirty talk and hot sexy times this little, almost story should fit the bill nicely. There's little explanation unfortunately, an ex that just doesn't get his comeuppance and an ending that's really rushed. Having said that though if there are longer more rounded stories in this series then I just might be interested enough to try another one but I feel my rating whilst low is fair for this book. As I type this is free on kindle

Usually I don't understand why a book gets tons of high stars. On this one, I don't understand why it doesn't have a higher star rating.
If you have never read a Mina Carter book, you need to get moving and grab them up. I've read quite a few of them. Some didn't live up to my expectations, but most are fantastic.

~ 2 Protect and Service Stars ~
Protect and Service is book three in the Paranormal Protection Agency by Mina Carter. It can be read as a stand-a-lone.
Unfortunately, this one did not work for me. It had to do with the hero, Jared, and heroine, Eloise, not having any type of history together, before they end up meeting at the PPA headquarters. I need my hero and heroine to have a prior history together for it to be believable and work for me. I never felt any connection to our leads nor did I believe they would feel anything more then just a physical attraction.
Protect and Service is quick, down and dirty sex. It’s smut. The sex scenes are hot, dirty and well written, but I need more.
Protect and Service was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.
Note: Some of the books in the PPA series are short stories like this, while others are much fuller.

Eloise went to the Paranormal Protection Agency to get a date for the a very important party she did not expect to be pinned to the wall by Mr Tall, Dark & Handsome and dang it if she didn't like it....Wait she shouldn't with a wolf, but at least she could have a good time at the event without her date turning into Pinocchio thanks to her Ex. It's one thing to say you hooked up with a German Shepard, but he wasn't going to make the mistake of making it up this time, he was going to take her to the dance and Tango his way into her bed forever.

Between 3 and 4 stars, but I'll round up - I enjoyed it and wanted more, so that's a good sign, right? Instalust SPN romance short story. Fun, fast, a bit silly. Basically a nice quick diversion.
My biggest complaint was that I'd've loved for it to be longer. As it was, there wasn't much meat on the bones, if you know what I mean. For what it was, though, it was enjoyable. Just a fun little escape, but I liked the characters and would've loved to see a bit more of Eloise's strength (especially when standing up to jerky ex), a bit more of Jared trying to chase her down, some more detail on the curse (does it affect Jared too? Or is he safe as a paranormal himself?). You know, all the fun stuff that's hinted at here!
One 1st person POV - hers. No cheating. No OW/OM/love triangle drama. No real drama at all, just a quick escapism read. Instalove and quick pacing (short story, after all). HEAish. No epilogue or anything, and Jared hints about pursuing something more, but we don't get to see it. So, could be HFN?
Would I read more from this author? Yes.

Super short smut story, but not much going on in the plot department. Eloise goes to the Paranormal Protection Agency because she needs a date to a ball. She's hooked up with Jared Stone, an over-sexed wolf shifter who starts out very grabby with the heroine. Eloise is justifiably disturbed by his lack of boundaries but also very turned on. They go to the ball together. Jared turns down a hot girl and Eloise uses that as evidence that Jared must REALLY like her. So they go home and have sex. Then Jared asks her to marry him. The end.
The sex here is great, as is the sexual chemistry. I didn't like how grabby Jared was, especially in light of Eloise's very obvious refusal of his attentions. He cools down quite a bit at the ball, or maybe Eloise is just far more willing. By then, I didn't have a problem with him. However, I wanted to get his POV. As it was, to the reader, Eloise could have just been another hookup or booty call. He wasn't exactly discriminating in his past. Even there at the end, the only reason we have to believe that Eloise is in anyway special to Jared is that he asks her to marry him...right after they climax together. So are they in love then? I don't know. It just wasn't obvious what they felt for each other and it's not like they knew each other well enough to be in love. Also, I was wondering about the whole "ex" thing and being cursed. Where was that supposed to be going? Is it over?

This..... amalgamation of words describing two random people meeting, being sexually attracted and going at it like rabbits...was worth dragging along to several chapters and then publishing it? Really?
I got this for free on amazon (thanks for that!), and from the description, I expected a nice story, sizzling hot, sex scenes, and - how dare I? - I actually did expect a plot!!!
The narration style as such wasn't even bad, on the contrary, but the protagonists (if you can call them that) were just two strangers meeting, with no history to them except for the short explanation that she needed a paranormal escort because her ex-husband put a curse on her hexing every human boyfriend. Okay. What made her think a paranormal escort would be different? How did she know there was a paranormal protection agency? How - what - where - why: those were questions that kept popping up during reading this. And I have to say: after all the introduction and leading to the bed scene (sort of): that climax (pardon the pun) was actually fairly anticlimatic.
I am sure there is a readership for this type of story, but unfortunately (whee!) I do not belong to it.
Thank you to the author, though, and I am not sarcastic now, for writing a story and having the courage to publish it, not knowing if readers will like or dislike. That does take courage and earns my respect.

Eloise’s ex is a real jerk. He put a curse on her so that she could not be with any other man and she has a charity event that she has to go to. What is a girl to do? Go to PPD and tell them you need some help. Jared Stone is a flirt and a big pain in the butt. But he is the best that Iliona has. He can protect Eloise and be great eye candy. The sex was hot. I mean, Jared was so taken with Eloise you knew she was his mate. And she couldn’t take her eyes off him. These two went off like a bottle rocket. I guess the curse wasn’t as potent as Jared. LOL

Jared and Eloise...so much fun!
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was fun and funny. The way that Jared and Eloise interacted with one another and the other characters was fantastic. I love Mina Carter's writing and this was a wonderful addition to my collection of her work.

Who doesn't want to read about getting revenge on your ex and hot sex? I do wish the ex had suffered a little more, but knowing he was now in the "shut-up" position helped. Short, easy, great read with hot sex. Love it!

Please tell me there's more to this story. The ex needs more of a lesson. I loved the way he was dealt with, but this felt like I was only a couple of chapters into a really great story, only to be left hanging.

A tissue-thin excuse for some random sex
I was disappointed with this book. The setup is interesting enough: dumped businesswoman Eloise has an important work party coming up, but her jerk ex will also be attending with his new partner, so she wants a hot date to rub his nose in it. So far this is pretty familiar romantic territory, but here’s the twist - her ex has put a curse on her which causes any man she dates to suffer some kind of comical ailment from coming out in spots to growing a nose like pinocchio. This sets the scene and tells us that we are in a world with magic, so I was expecting some sort of clever problem solving, maybe some light revenge against the man who laid the curse, and along the way a growing romance between Eloise and the magical troubleshooter she hires to deal with the curse. That could have been a fun little story.
Instead what we get is an introduction to the very-alpha wolf-shifter Jared by way of some off-colour comments about sex with animals and an instant attraction. If anything, that’s the most disappointing thing about this story. There’s no warm-up, no will-they-won’t-they, nothing getting in the way. It jumps from first glance to shoving up against the wall and talking dirty. It feels cheap and exploitative. Sure, he backs off at this point and they do eventually attend the party, but that just leads to raunchy dancing and considerably more raunchy sex. And here’s the second big problem with the story. After the first page or two there is no more mention of the curse. It’s as if the author forgot about that bit and just wanted to write the nookie. Oh, and there’s a third problem, too. Despite the title and the way Jared is introduced there’s no actual shifting. All we get is a bit of growling and his eyes changing from blue to amber. That doesn’t really say “wolf” to me.
Perhaps it’s just me, but I want sex in stories to mean something, for the characters to understand what they are getting into. I also want the setup to be “paid off” by the end, and not completely ignored in favour of one steamy scene after another. It’s a shame. This idea could have been so much better.

Same unsatisfying ending type
I really enjoy Mina’s writing style and I always seem to get pulled into her stories, the worlds and the characters... BUT
So far every single book has left me hanging - wondering what or why things happened. Parts of the story that feel integral to the back story are never finished. SPOILER ALERT
for instance, in this story there’s a curse that is the reason our sexy protagonist goes to the PPA for a date... a bit of a stretch, but ok. All her previous dates ended up cursed after one date ... then there’s a brief encounter with her ex and his newest piece. The story uses these devices to fill out the character/s’ motivations but never completes the story. Yes, there is an hea- sort of; in the sense that girl gets hot sexy man in all the ways she could dream of, but it ends there - no explanation of how things turned out after the orgasms. Did the curse get broken? Was a**h**e ex held accountable? (Preferably by the curse rebounding and f*****g his s**t up.) What happened with the proposal? Did hot werewolf lover boy bite her after the morning talk that was mentioned? What?!! I want to know!!
