Cute, outdated, for upper middle class men in their 30s and 40s. Some good common sense tips, some eye-rolling bad jokes, some wow I hardly remember what it was like back then. That's it.

More a guide to urbanity than style per se, with a fair share of bad advice--a good paisley is hard to find, but it can be done--and effete Manhattan concerns--no I do not need eye moisturizer--but plenty more good advice. Favorite lines:
Let's explain this once and for all. Style is not fashion. Clothes don't have style. You have style. Yes, you. You just may not know it.... For true style is the quality of imagination. It's the ability to place yourself in new situations with a fresh attitude and an eye on something better. You don't think you have that? Then what to wear is the least of your problems.
You don't know? Who does? Some people just guess more confidently than others. As Jane Wagner once wrote for Lily Tomlin, "Reality is a collective hunch." Try sticking your two cents in. It's how you make change.
"Where choice begins, Paradise ends, innocence ends, for what is Paradise but the absence of any need to choose this action?" --Arthur Miller
The most dangerous path a man not used to shopping can follow is to turn over his whole wardrobe at once. There is no imperative to find the new you. The old one got you this far. Let's just clean him up a bit.

Don't do everything and go everywhere together. You'll have nothing to talk about later.
When you want to get cute, factor in the difference between sexy and vulgar. There is one.

Nobody hears anything else you say when you curse.
Something's wrong when you go to sleep like spoons and one of you feels like a salad fork.

This is supposed to be a hand guide for men to look good and learn what it is to be a "civil" modern man. Mostly this is a direction guide to being a metrosexual. While this book is 15 years old, there are some useful tips on how to still be a gentleman and not a look and behave like a upright primate like those that attend tailgate events at NASCAR and Southern Football.
