Thrown by a Curve needed a curve ball, a fast ball, a slider, and most importantly, a changeup. The same ol', same ol' formula has gotten a bit tired. A couple of strikes but the series is not out yet. Final score: You really can't go wrong with books featuring the boys of summer!
Alicia, a sports medicine specialist, is the sister of Cole who was the hero is the last book, Playing to Win, and she's also the cousin of the characters from the prior books. She meets Garrett, the star pitcher for the St. Louis Rivers, who is recovering from a shoulder injury.
I enjoyed Garrett and Alicia but I felt they lacked some chemistry. What they didn't lack was any quivering parts...he was quivering, she was quivering and all their little bits were quivering. I even searched for how many times 'quivering' was used and I was shocked that the count was only sixteen times. It sure felt like a lot more. That and wet...Garrett likes asking Alicia if she is wet..over and over again. Now I'm all for dirty talk but maybe I need things mixed up a bit!
What I did like about Alicia and Garrett was all their banter. They are really sweet together and I found myself smiling quite a few times. Seeing him 'wake up and smell the coffee' was especially rewarding. And of course having an epilogue just makes my day!
One of my favorite things about this series is all the family. I love all the get togethers and all the connections. JB is going to have to change that up and in the next book, One Sweet Ride, she does just that with Garrett's college roommate, Gray Preston. I just have to say that if the little preview of him in this book is any indication, I think that his book will be very yummy!

One of my favorite storylines/tropes is a hero and heroine who--before they are together--have to live in the same house, share a hotel room, etc. Lots of opportunities for sexual tension in that kind of scenario, and this book sure played that up. Thought the chemistry between the hero and heroine was great--and since this is one of Burton's books it's even hotter when the H/h get together. Alicia may be my favorite heroine in the series; she's very confident in herself and in her career.
Really enjoying this series--I'm already looking forward to the next book!

Poor little perfect rich boy, he found his (identical) perfect little rich girl
Soooo... I liked about 35% of the book. The rest I skimmed (a lot!) and I got really annoyed. The only reason I didn't DNF this one is because I skipped about 30% of the book.
I didn't like the perfect-ness of the heroes, they were having the exact same voice, what one of the thought you'd find in 2 pages at the other one. The writing didn't really catch my interest (maybe that's why I took so long to read it...) and the sex scenes were pretty meh.
When I read a romance, I don't expect originality (that's almost impossible to find), but I do expect interesting characters and decent sex scenes. Well, guess what? I didn't find any of that in this book.
Why 2.5 stars and not less? Well, the female character was funny at times and I liked her in the beginning. And at the end, I liked a few scenes. The book even made me giggle, so well done, that's not an easy task.
All in all, well, I get why it can be a good book, just not a good one for me.

The whole time I was reading this book, all I could think was...I want my $9.99 back.
I have read all the books in this series and after not really loving the last one, I told myself I would wait to get this one on PBS or through a book swap, but did I listen to myself? No. I got all excited and purchased it, hoping it would be as good as Mick, Gavin or Jenna's stories. FAIL.
I found this book to be just flat out boring. Throughout the entire story I felt like I was waiting for something to happen...but nothing did. And the dialogue, oh my Lord. There was so much unnecessary dialogue in this book that it was exhausting. Not only that, but it felt stilted, like Burton was trying to provide backstory solely through character conversations and not through any actual STORY line action or narrative.
And Alicia was soooooooooo annoying. I swear, half of the aforementioned boat load of wasteful dialogue was her just lecturing Garrett about every topic imaginable. Her holier than thou rants about everything from maintaining friendships to the lack of nutrition in fast food had me rolling my eyes. On top of all that, the ending "climax" was lame, rushed, and boring--just like this entire book, sadly.
Long story short: I'll probably still read the next one...but only after it lands on PBS. Or the library.

Solid if unspectacular edition of the Play by Play series...
Handsome Garrett Scott is a star pitcher for the St. Louis Rivers. Garrett injured his shoulder late last season and is in the process of rehabbing it, yet things have hit a plateau. Is it the physical therapists who are ineffective, or is Garrett just not giving it his all? Enter Rivers therapist Alicia Riley (sister of Cole--Playing to Win). Alicia's devoted her life to becoming the best sports therapist there is, and she'd like a crack at rehabbing Garrett. When tell-it-like-it-is Alicia has some blunt words of advice for him and how he's going about his rehab, Garrett is intrigued and decides that he'd like Alicia to take charge of his rehab. This is a big challenge for Alicia--she's never had such an important client, and although she's confident she can get Garrett ready for the season, there is a slight possibility that things might not work out. Alicia lays it on the line for Garrett, and tells him just what she expects from him. They work hard, and begin to see some results. But will the attraction between Alicia and Garrett get in the way of the rehab? Alicia would like to keep it all business...but Garrett makes it hard to stick to that resolve. What harm would it cause if Alicia and Garrett give in to their desires...?

This was a mostly enjoyable read. I liked Alicia and enjoyed learning a little about sports medicine. I thought the chemistry between Alicia and Garrett was pretty potent--their sex scenes were steamy but never over-the-top (although what was with all the "quivering" going on?). Where I thought the story faltered a bit was that there wasn't a whole lot of conflict. The story wasn't all that deep. Alicia and Garrett got along great and the only real problem was that Alicia wanted to keep their relationship secret because it wouldn't look good that she was sleeping with her client. And neither character had had a real relationship before--they were both career oriented--and they were sort of discovering feelings they never felt before. So there was a little bit of "what am I feeling" going on.
I also thought the character of Garrett was a little underdeveloped. We learn that he was still traumatized over his parent's divorce when he was a teen, and this affected his thoughts about love. I would've liked to learn a little more about him (although we do get a scene where he meets up with his college buddies--setting up some future books, I'm sure)--I felt I didn't know him all that well. He did come off as being a bit self involved, but I'm sure that's all part of being a star athlete and having people fawn all over you. He ended up being a good guy, but I just wasn't blown away by him.
If you've been keeping up with this series, you'll enjoy seeing some characters from the other books pop up here (Tara, Liz, Savannah, Jenna, Gavin, Cole) and catching up with them. Jaci Burton has a way of writing that makes you feel like you know these characters as old friends, and the reading is always easy. If there had been a little more going on in this one, I would've given it a higher rating. All of the books in this series are winners, but some characters are more memorable than others. I'm afraid Alicia and Garrett and their story aren't quite as memorable as Tara and Mick (The Perfect Play) but still they rate a solid 4 stars.

WAAAAHHHH! I'm so disappointed with this one! :( It makes me so sad. I've loved this series and I know you can't win them all but I wasn't ready to be disappointed yet. I just really thought it was boring. Not enough romance for me, not enough of the Riley family, and I just didn't really care enough about whether Garrett and Alicia got together.
Then the end came together so quickly, I just felt like it was an after thought. The most telling thing is that it took me THREE DAYS to finish this. That's sacrilege! If it was a good book I would have been done in one night.
It makes me nervous for the next one. I think maybe the series needed to stop after the main Riley's. Now this next book doesn't even have a Riley in it! WTF?
Oh well, I'm not going to give up yet, I really love Jaci Burton, so I'm going to keep the faith!

This book was an ok read. I don't know what there is about Jaci Burton's books but even though the sport part is more than an alibi (here it's about major league sport rehabilitation), for the last 2 books I couldn't get involved in the stories or with the heroes.
I found Garrett bland and Alicia didn't stand out either. Also, the few interactions with previous characters seemed a bit "forced" to me. More's the pity because the covers are definitely 5 stars material.

Finally a solid installment in a series that has been mostly uninspired.
Alicia and Garrett are an endearing couple and their romance is sweet and sexy with no unnecessary angst. In a series with so many obnoxious heroes, Garrett is a breath of fresh air. He starts off somewhat self-absorbed but turns into a thoughtful and caring man unafraid to apologize when he is in the wrong. Alicia is honest and forthright with no qualms about calling Garrett on his BS.
There are some entertaining cameo appearances by the rest of the Riley family and an intriguing reunion with Garrett's college roommates who will apparently be the heroes of the next few books.
All in all, my persistence with the series has paid off and I can only hope that this positive trend will continue.

3 to 3.5 stars. A reread from a series I really enjoyed a few years ago. Now I'm not so sure. I still liked the characters and the story arc, but I'd forgotten there was so much sex. LOL I still enjoy books with sex scenes, but these days I think I prefer a bit more story and a bit less sex in a book. But this is a good read for those looking for a more erotic style contemporary romance.

Garrett’s bad attitude is holding back his rehab and keeping his goal of returning to pitch as a part of his team’s starting rotation out of his reach. Alicia, a physical therapist for Garrett’s baseball team, tells him straight up to get his head out of his ass and concentrate on his rehab. I kind of liked her a lot from that point on. Garrett knows he needs to shake things up and wants Alicia to lead his rehab and concentrate completely on him until the season starts and he’s back in the starting rotation. Working side by side means she goes where he does and that includes a weekend with his college roommates (more on them later) and down to spring training with the team and they get much closer than either of them intended.
I really liked Alicia from the beginning. She’s professional, she’s confident in her abilities and she knows without a doubt that she can work up a training plan to get Garrett back in top pitching shape. I enjoyed everything about her character. She’s the woman you want to be friends with. Seeing her and her friendships with the women in her family, that’s always a fun time. The fun banter and dirty talk that the women have when they get together is something I look forward to reading about in every book. Be it new mom for the second time Tara, or loud mouth Liz, Alicia fits right into this dominant group of women and I loved their scenes together.
The relationship between Garrett and Alicia moved at a really great pace. The concentration early on is all centered around Garrett’s rehab and how that puts this couple in close proximity to each other. This leads to them slowly moving their relationship from professional to romantic. I was so happy to have to *gasp* wait for their first sex scene! The sweet buildup to when they finally do get together was worth the wait and even though it took some time to get there, Garrett makes up for it with being so damn sexy in the bedroom. Their personal relationship isn’t something that’s allowed with their jobs, their contracts with the Rivers baseball team prohibits any kind of personal relationship between them and it does become an issue for them both. For as much as Alicia tried to keep things separate between them, and constantly reminding herself that once Garrett’s rehab was over, what was growing emotionally between them was too (not exactly sure why those two things were so connected in her head) the issue of them not being able to date was resolved very quickly and easily. I didn’t expect some big, drastic change in either of their careers to happen because of their relationship, but it was resolved in just a page.
Like I mentioned above, Garrett is that great, sexy athlete and a hero that made me drool. Now, he wasn’t perfect, in fact he acted like a big baby when his rehab didn’t go exactly as he planned. But that aside, he was sweet with Alicia, he has a great group of friends he’s had for years and he’s a driven athlete. All things that made me enjoy him and his story with Alicia.
Garrett’s group of friends is a bunch of men he roomed with in college in the athlete’s dorm, who all have made it professionally in their sport. They’re fun, they’re (of course) sexy and hot and even just getting a small introduction to them, we get a sense of some past pain they’re dealing with; most especially Gray, the race car driver whose story is up next.
The romance really drew me in to this story and I loved the progression of it. The nice, slow, teasing buildup for both Garrett and Alicia made their romance stronger and made me more invested in them as a couple. Alicia was such a likable character, I love her passion for her job, her ideas in doing something different to help rehab Garrett getting him ready for the pitcher’s mound again, and her personality was straight forward, what you see is what you get; all great things in a heroine. The end slipped just a little bit with Garrett’s bad attitude coming back in a negative way when his pitching goal didn’t go exactly as he planned. He lashes out and I just wanted to reach into the book and smack him. And also the small amount of worry with their relationship going public and the impact on their jobs, especially on Alicia’s end, ended up being resolved a little too easily for all the concern she expressed about it as their relationship grew. But overall, I enjoyed their story quite a bit and their relationship made for a very satisfying read.

I have come to expect the focus of a PLAY BY PLAY story to be on the sexy, THROWN BY A CURVE switched up the roles and it became more about the sweet story.
Garrett Scott plays for the same baseball team as Gavin Riley. Except he’s not playing right now, due to an injury that has left his throwing arm needing some physical therapy if he hopes to get back on the mound. He’s His cocky, know-it-all, stubborn attitude is not helping his recovery. At least not with his current team of therapists. That is until he decides to leave his recovery in the hands of the newest member of the team, and Gavin’s cousin, Alicia Riley.
Alicia is just what Garrett needs, both for his physical recovery and to soften his tough guy exterior and be happy. She is an understated heroine compared to some of the previous ones in this series, but that doesn’t make her less strong. But she’s also fun to be around. The type of girl you just can’t help but like and want to be friends with.
Garrett and Alicia worked together all the time in his recovery, but even though they spent a lot of time together, they didn’t get together right away. That was really the only way the story could go, the focus had to be on his recovery and on them really getting to know each other. Otherwise, we might’ve ended up with a hot fling. They really had the time to develop feelings for each other, after they got to know each other well.
Just like Garrett, who is sexy as hell, we are introduced to another group of sexy athletes. Now that the Riley family in dwindling, fresh blood is introduced to keep this series going. All I can tell you is, I’m ready to read about Garrett’s college buddies.
The conflict in this book was perfect and real, the romance was sweet, the hero was drool worthy. THROWN BY A CURVE is one of those books that leaves you with a happy feeling when you turn the last page. And then the only thing you can feel is impatient for the next one to come out already!

I hate to do this to my favorite series!!! but I only gave it 3 stars -
I love this whole series, Jaci Burton is my favorite Sports author - and she did a GREAT job with this book - I totally loved all the baseball talk, the whole physical therapy thing -
But Gavin and Alicia were just Lacking somehow.
Being a Riley, I would think Alicia would have been a bit more.... out there. Considering Jenna's story, and Alicia's brother Cole.
But even though Alicia is a strong girl, she doesn't take Garrett's crap.
And then that leads me to Garrett - he's not the big player that they said he was.. not even a little bit. Sure right now his main focus is getting his shoulder back to normal, but what i don't get, is how the professional trainers would pacify him to the point that he wasn't working his arm the right way??
That's how it starts off. Garrett isn't healing fast enough. He's starting to think his shoulder isn't going to heal fast enough and he's not going to be able to pitch this season.
When he asks Alicia her opinion, she really gives it to him. Letting him know that he's full of crap and doesn't do what he's supposed to do.
So Garrett does what is expected. He'll take the girl who swears she can get his arm in shape. Because she wont take his crap.
We don't get to read much of his crying, or whining about the pain, or being difficult, because in this story, Garrett is pretty good at following directions that Alicia gives him. Even though she says he's being difficult....
Anyways - Alicia takes him on a few different ways of getting his mind off his shoulders. Instead of consistant intense weight lifting, she takes him up a rock wall. She has a few different ideas on how to stretch his arms and start breaking down the scar tissue, and get his shoulder back into shape.
Finally he's ready to start working out with the team. Not pitching, but working out. And this brings them both to Florida, staying in the same beach house.... well, you can see where this is going :) And it goes there.. and it's HOT! Jaci really knows how to make a relationship work :) I love it.
This book would have been better if Garrett was a little more .... manly - I understand he was hurt and all that, but still ....
Looking forward to One Sweet Ride in June -

And Gary seemed so sweet at the restaurant. I can't wait to get to know him better :)

La lectura fue muy buena, a pesar de que muchos puedan llegar a criticar esta saga porque les parezca un poco repetitiva, yo la amo y nunca me canso de leer las historias de estos hombres deportistas.
La historia es sencilla y aunque puede tener uno que otro cliche, yo disfrute mucho leyendola.
Esperando ansiosa la siguiente historia, quiero saber mas de Gray.

Strong and sexy romance. As I'm so far behind on the series, and don't want to read any others out of order, I'm listening to audiobooks to catch up. I really loved how kickass Alicia is and that she didn't give Garrett and inch when they started working together to get him ready to pitch again. The chemistry was strong between them and I fell in love with them as a couple. Yes mistakes were made on both sides, but I loved that both were big enough to own mistakes and make it right.
Thrown by a Curve made me remember why I loved this series when it first came out and why I need to listen to all the books to be ready for new ones in the series.

Trying a New Therapy
From the beginning, the tension between Alicia Riley and Garrett Scott is present. Sure, it's mostly in a professional capacity, but it quickly starts to change. And that's what I'm here for! 😉
He decided this whole therapy thing would go a lot better if he didn’t find her sexy.

I love that she holds him accountable, making him really work for his rehab and her. I love that they rile each other up - accidentally and on purpose. Once they get on the same page, I love the sacrifice that's offered.
This is a standalone, and can be read as such, but I love that we get to spend time with Alicia's extended family, getting glimpses of their HEAs after their books have closed. The love they have for each other is like a nice warm blanket that I want to stay cocooned in. 😍
I read along with the audio book. The narrator, Lucy Malone, is a good choice for Alicia, but a male counterpart would have been awesome. That's really the only downside, I think. Oh, well. 🙂 🎧🩷🎧

I loved the first three books in the Play by Play series, partly because of the type of men Jaci Burton created. They were Alpha males (capital A intended) who loved sex, were a tad bit emotionally stunted by things that happened in their life and had to find a woman that would let them be Alpha when they needed it but helped them get in touch with their emotional side. In PLAYING TO WIN, I felt like Cole didn't fit into the mold Jaci had created in the first three books. So I was a very happy woman when I met Garrett in the first few pages of THROWN BY A CURVE and found that Alpha male I grown to love in the series.
Garrett Ryan is trying to recover from a shoulder injury the previous season. None of those on his rehab team has been able to get him to a place where he could start pitching in the upcoming season. That is until Alicia Riley steps up and tells her boss, the River's team manager and the team's star pitcher that she could get him pitching if he followed her treatment plan. Garrett's decides to go with Alicia's plan, because what he wants more than anything is to pitch again. What neither of them count on their working relationship turning into something more.
Alicia has got to be my favorite heroine in the series so far. She doesn't cut Garrett any slack. Even when they started sleeping together, she stuck to what she needed to do to get Garrett where he wanted to be. She fought with crossing the patient/therapist line with Garrett and worried about what their relationship would mean to not only their working relationship, but with their employer. She didn't get all starry eyed because she was sleeping with the hot shot pitcher, but instead kept thing in prospective and was honest with herself.
Garrett may have whined and complained when it came to doing what he needed to do to rehab his shoulder, but you knew it was because he was afraid of where his career was going. But the man had a sweet side that would make any woman melt. He willingly went shopping, he made vegetarian meals and (most of the time) was very aware of Alicia and her feelings. He may not have always shown Alicia how much he appreciate what she did for him or how he felt about her, but when it mattered he got it right.
My only complaint with this book was having to wait for Garrett and Alicia to finally have sex. The sex is an on-going character in this series, so having to wait until midway through the book was a bit disappointing. However, when it did finally happen it was just as I would expect from the series. Garrett may not be quite as dirty as Mick, Gavin or Ty, but he was closer to what I've come to expect.

J’avais beaucoup apprécié les tomes que j’ai lus de cette série, aussi avec la sortie de ce roman, j’étais curieuse de voir ce que donnait cette nouvelle histoire. Pourtant, même si j’ai passé un bon moment avec Alicia et Garrett, j’ai trouvé ce volume un peu en dessous des autres mais j’y reviendrais un peu plus tard.
Alicia est kinésithérapeute pour une équipe de base-ball mais son travail reste dans l’ombre jusqu’à ce qu’elle tombe sur Garrett. Ce joueur très sexy a une blessure à l’épaule, un handicap qu’il ne prend pas à la légère. Son défaitisme est d’ailleurs un gros problème pour sa rééducation et quand Alicia s’oppose à lui, il décide de la prendre elle comme kiné personnel pour le rebooster. Problème, car bien sûr il y en a un gros, c’est qu’une attraction assez irrésistible apparait entre eux. Mais comment peut-il y avoir une histoire sérieuse entre eux et surtout comment pourrait-elle garder son travail si c’était le cas ? Alors en attendant, les deux essaient de s’éviter autant qu’ils le peuvent. Mais bien sûr, tout cela ne sera pas si simple.
J’ai beaucoup aimé découvrir Alicia, son indépendance, son désir d’être la meilleure dans son travail et surtout ne pas gâcher cette chance qui lui est offerte de montrer ses preuves. Garrett est un peu énervant sur certains aspects. On comprend qu’il ne croit pas pouvoir retrouver son potentiel mais au final c’est un peu fatigant de voir qu’il ne peut pas faire plus. Mais pourtant on s’attache à ces deux personnages, on les regarde évoluer ensemble et avancer. Oui car même s’il présente cet aspect, Garrett est aussi prêt à tout pour faire plaisir à Alicia et reste à sa disposition quand elle en a besoin. Leur relation est finalement assez touchante car elle prend du temps et s’installe doucement. Je pense que le seul problème que j’ai eu c’est que j’ai trouvé que l’histoire trainait un peu et on retrouve donc certains passages un peu longs.

Mmmm, I love me some Play by Play Series men. I get completely caught up in the characters Jaci Burton creates and I get hooked. I have loved every book in this series and each one is entertaining, easy to read, and super hot. I like that Alicia is confident and that Garrett is cocky and they both take their jobs and future seriosly. You get to catch up with the rest of the Riley family and can anyone else believe Nathan is already 18! Dare I hope there will be a book about him in the future? (Please!) I am also very much looking forward to reading One Sweet Ride and getting to know Gray ;)

LOVE these covers....but, the stories lately aren't anywhere near as good as the covers. I'd actually give it two stars if it weren't for my cover love.
I know this author can write a good story. I've read several of them. There's no spark or life or emotion to these stories any longer. I wonder if she needs a new challenge. Writing these series has to become a bit like phoning it in at some point. Come back, Jaci Burton! I miss you!!

Nothing new, actually it felt like less, it was very bland, nothing about the characters or the plot was the least bit striking or entertaining and when u find yourself skimming through the intimate scenes or putting the book down to go and see if you can find something to do around the house, you know the book is boring.

CHALLENGE # 15: LOST MY HEAD

This was a first time read by this writer for me.
It was a good story, good characters who had chemistry w/each other. While this is the middle of the series and there are lots of characters, I wasn’t completely lost.
I liked the story but the sex scenes were too explicit/crude for me. Not that I’m a prude but I’m more invested in “the romance” in the book than “the sex details”.
Even though I don't know much about sports, I do like the sports romance genre.
Alicia is a vegetarian so I gave it an extra half star b/c as a vegetarian myself, I always smile when one of the characters in a book is as well.
My negative is that the sex scenes were too explicit/crude for me. Not that I’m a prude but I’m more invested in “the romance” in the book than “the sex details”. We all read various genres for different reasons, I’m a romantic so I like to read romances. While sex is an element in them, that’s not what I’m interested in. I like a good story. If it’s a good story then I just skim thru the parts that I find too steamy. I did that with this one. .

Sure she's about to loose her job, Alicia is the first one surprise when Garrett decides to give Alicia a chance to take over his recovery. After all, nothing has worked so far!
Chemistry is undeniable between the two and will increase as the time goes by and they will eventually give in. But will the circumstances stand in their way or will they be able to work past Garrett's injury and self doubt and Alicia's role in all of it?

I will start by saying I love LOVE sequels. If you give me a choice between a self standing story or one part of a series, I will go for the series every time. In doing so, I must face a fact: not all books are as good as the one you really REALLY loved in that series.
The Play-By-Play series is one who will allow us to be part of an amazing family, one you wish you were born in. Not the perfect one but with just enough imperfection to make it believable and Oh so lovable. The author will let us spend just enough time with all the characters to see them evolve from one book to the other. I must say it is one of the best series I have read in that regard. I'm looking forward to see what is happening to all the characters I have meat in the previous books and how their life has evolved. It was a little disappointing not to have any news on Tara's oldest son, hopefully we'll get to see him again down the road.
As I was saying a little earlier, not all books can be as brilliant as the one you fell in love with. Well, I was a little deceived by "Thrown by a curve". I felt like there was no deep emotional investment from either one of the characters. It was an uneventful relationship, rather normal I would say, where problems were dealt with honestly and instantaneously without any big consequences. I felt like the author wasn't really invested in her characters, almost as if she wasn't connected with their feelings and was going though the motion of writing a story following the guidelines. Mind you, if you want to learn about alternative methods of physical therapy, go ahead and read it! There is a ton of detailed information on the subject! Lol!

Ladies I want to introduce you to my fantasy version of Garrett Scott:
This is the face I pictured the entire time I was reading Thrown by a Curve
My number one remedy for a book hangover, is a quick, simple, somewhat predictable and steamy read. No matter how bad the hangover is, these key things always work for me, and Thrown By A Curve was exactly what I was looking for, plus a little something extra.
Even though I knew exactly what I was getting, based on the blurb and cover I still found myself somewhat surprised by the realistic maturity level of our two main characters, Alicia and Garrett. They were RATIONAL adult characters and I can't tell you how nice of a change it is to read about people who think along the same line as I do. For instance, Garrett would get aggravated and get snippy with Alicia. But instead of Alicia pondering for 6 chapters on why he got snippy, she just flat out asked. This is what people do! If there is a problem you don't ponder it relentlessly, you go get answers! This is what took this book from "meh" to "ok" for me. I love the idea of tangible characters and environments and nothing about Garrett and Alicia's relationship/situation seemed far-fetched or came off as annoying.
If that wasn't enough to take my mind off my book hangover I'm sure the incredibly hot sex scenes would have. I'm not talking about, "tie-me-up-and-screw-my-brains-out" kind of sex, but more like "I-want-to-take-my-time-exploring-your-body-and-enjoying-that-look-of-bliss-on-your-face" kind of sex.
Everything was so sensual even I got a little hot under the collar, and if you ever tell anyone I will deny it!
Denial, and hot collars aside, I truly enjoyed Throw By A Curve. Yes the plot was extremely predictable, and the writing wasn't some epiphany inducing masterpiece, but it was exactly what I needed at the time. Something that cleaned my palate, got my mind off my book hangover, and entertained me to a certain extent.

My number one remedy for a book hangover, is a quick, simple, somewhat predictable and steamy read. No matter how bad the hangover is, these key things always work for me, and Thrown By A Curve was exactly what I was looking for, plus a little something extra.
Even though I knew exactly what I was getting, based on the blurb and cover I still found myself somewhat surprised by the realistic maturity level of our two main characters, Alicia and Garrett. They were RATIONAL adult characters and I can't tell you how nice of a change it is to read about people who think along the same line as I do. I love Jaci Burton’s Play-By-Play series and Thrown By A Curve was no exception.
Alicia Riley has always wanted to do sport medicine, and now she has her dream job with the St. Louis Rivers along with the challenge of getting the Rivers’ starting pitcher Gavin Scott back on the mound. Her cousin Gavin Riley may be their top first basemen, but she earned her spot on the Rivers medical team.
Gavin Scott a starting pitcher for Rivers is trying to recover from his first injury as a major league player. His treatment is not going the way he thought it would and he is starting to wonder if he will ever be in the starting rotation again until he challenges Alicia to get him there.
Liz always been my favorite heroine is this series, but I think Alicia has moved to the top of the list. I loved that she was not scared to tell it like it is. And she has no problem telling Garrett to suck up and deal with it when it comes to his treatment.
Once Alicia and Garrett give into their attractions they burn up the sheets and the car! Garrett and Alicia are perfect for each other. They challenge each other in a good way. Both Garrett and Alicia see that when you find that perfect someone you would move mountains to stay with them and make it work.
We not only get a great love story, we get to catch up with the whole Riley family. I did love every second Liz was present in the story and loved that she and Gavin are happy to be constantly practicing to make a baby. We also get to meet Gray Preston who will be featured in the next book One Sweet Ride. Of course Ms. Burton has got me chomping at the bits for the next book. I really hope Ms. Burton is planning books for Garrett’s two other friends we meet in this book.
Another awesome, sexy read by Jaci Burton. This book is another great addition to this series.

Probablemente no lo disfruté tanto porque era el tercero que leía, aunque una buena escritora debería sorprender siempre... Just Saying.
Cómo funciona esta serie:
Acto 1: Se conocen y es lujuria-a-primera-vista. Se presentan, se comen con la mirada y casi se imaginan entre sábanas.
Acto 2: PEEERO siempre hay un pequeño inconveniente: miedo a enredarse con un jugador o a enamorarse (libro 3 y creo que 1 aunque no lo recuerdo bn), o el trabajo se interpone y no puede existir una relación (libro 4 y 5).
Acto 3: A quién le importa lo que se interponga? Al protagonista no, claramente. Coqueteo va, coqueteo viene y más escenas de te-imagino-desnud@-en-mi-cama, unos cuantos besos y toqueteos para aumentar la tensión, y algo de tiempo para conocerse porque se supone que esto será amor.
Acto 4: Cuando la tensión sexual es demasiada solo hay una opción: sucumbir a ella. So, es tiempo de tener sexo.
Acto 5: Sexo. Se conocen. Sexo. Se conocen. Sexo en público y dependiendo del libro, un poco kinky.
Acto 6: Regresa el miedo (o algún otro impedimento) que hace tambalear la relación.
Acto 7: Hablan y arreglan el malentendido. Se dicen "te amo" y es mi parte favorita porque siempre es él el primero en decirlo :P
Acto 8: Arreglan la relación, se reconcilian, tienen sexo (sip) y viven felices para siempre.
La mayoría de los libros RA tienen una estructura parecida, y algunas escritoras saben llevar mejor este argumento cliché. Aún no encuentro conexión con las historias de Jaci Burton y aunque están bien escritas y son interesantes, no conecto con sus personajes.

Back to the St. Louis Rivers baseball field for this book. This is about therapist Alicia, sister of Cole from the last book, and cousin to Gavin Reilly. She is assigned to rehab star starting pitcher Garrett who was injured during the previous season. His progress had plateaued so Garrett requested her to be in charge of his treatment to shake things up a bit. The majority of the book was about his therapy sessions and them fighting their mutual chemistry. Once they got together it was hot. I really enjoyed this. Alicia and Garrett are both very likable. I found all the therapy and rehab talk very interesting, Great read by the pool. 4 stars!

I'm a Jaci fan but I was left a little flat with this one. Didn't feel the characters or the 'love'. Having said I'm a car racing fan and will still check out her next one. Price was a bit steep though at ten bucks for a kindle ebook......
