Review:

So this one continues where the first book left, but Dane and Vanlyn are in a healing sleep, so the new main character is Lahn, whom we met in the first book as Dane's bestfriend and another fiend, that escaped into the world of the living.
The second protagonist is Rasleigh, who is Vanlyns former lover, but who gave him up after his fathers ultimatum, that he has to get married. Now he lost his memories and his family in a fire, but has gained a new ability - he can infuse his writing with magic, so that the written words become true.

Rasleigh is send to Penryn, to report on Lahn and on his true alliances.
Lahn is the Minister in Dane's absence and who tries to protect his people and achieve a truce with the other fiends who escaped the Purgatory or where send by the Arch-fiend.
When they meet again, even after Rasleigh has forgotten their first meeting, sparks fly and Lahn swears he wont let go of Rasleigh this time around. There is just one problem in Lahns way, Rasleigh is engaged to be married and wants to honour this promise.
Also a new tear, where fiends and other creatures can escape, has opened up in Penryn, so they have to close it or lose the island which they both come to call home.

So what worked?
Well the chemistry between Lahn and Rasleigh was pretty good, it's not insta-love but mostly it's instant lust, but it's not overbearing and doesn't hinder the story, much.
There is a plot and I didn't mind the flashbacks, when Lahn told Rasleigh how he died and about his family.
I finished it in one go, so the story flows nicely, there is action, love, drama and betrayal, no time to get borred. :)
Also I liked the characters it was easy to fall into their life stories and follow their adventures.

What didn't work:
Honestly it could use some editing, there where words missing so that a sentence didn't make any sense, some words where just spelled wrong.

How fast Rasleigh has given in to Lahn, I mean he tells us that Vanlyn was his first love, ok I get it that he was disappointed that Vanlyn found someone new when they where apart, but he just goes on and gives in to Lahn's sexual advances.

The mythology in this book is so well done - I feel like I could actually live in the world and get how they believe. This is the second one and just like the first book, the MCs have a rocky relationship on their way to falling in love - some dubious consent, lots of fighting, and much outside pressure due to the big supernatural war they are involved in. Still, seeing them get to "happy together" was worth the angst. I hope there is another book to come - I really like these. :)
