This book isn't a good one for children. Lily Fair diets and exercises every day "to keep herself in shape" and they show her on a scale. Nastina, the nasty, jealous spider who's out to rule Rose-Petal Place convinces Lily Fair to do something she shouldn't just to cause drama between her and the other girls. I love a villain so I like Nastina.
I think it was kind of shitty for Rose Petal to take Lily Fair's spotlight like that. Oh, and Orchid? What a bitch? Does she like anyone? And I've notice that Iris rarely shows up, is that like a racial thing. Things continue to intensify in Rose Petal Place, I think I'll read on...
Lily Fair Learns A Lesson PLOT: Lily Fair (Rose Petal Place's dancer) learns that it's not what you wear that makes you a star. It's what you put into it from the heart.
MY THOUGHTS: This is a book from my childhood. While it's a simple book to read it has a great lesson and that's the value of loving what you do if you have a special talent and putting your heart into it. People who truly love what they do -be it sports or singing or dancing or writing- don't do it for the money -even though the money doesn't hurt- and they have a passion for it. And that's *why* they do it. It was silly of Lily Fair to fall for the trick that a *dress* would make her a star but that's the thing about jealousy and how sometimes even if it doesn't make sense how it can make you do something as far as to the extent of stealing from someone to get what you want. It's something to chew on.
RATING: It's kinda hard to rate books like this from my childhood because they all have a special place in my heart and a warm feeling when after so long I open them. I'll give this a nostalgic 7 for the short and sweet lesson it taught.
