This was a fairly quick read with decent action and the beginning of good characters. I didn't mind the story but there wasn't a lot of world building and some of the scenarios were just a little too implausible. I don't mind stretching the imagination a bit but stretching it against a known fact without any explanation is harder to swallow. I liked the military aspect of the story but again, had trouble believing a couple of things. I just can't see a captain leaving the bridge in the middle of a fire fight to help crew members put out fires on the ship. Then the Commander leaving to find out what happened to the Captain. Surely their would be severe repercussions for an officer leaving their post in the middle of a battle. At any rate, there is enough action and enough conflict to keep the story interesting, I just would have liked it to be a little more believable with a bit more depth to the setting (where is the home world, where is the rest of the fleet, etc...)
