Homeless and heartbroken, Phoebe Morris is having a rough day. The old Cadillac she purchased with the last of her money, a vehicle meant to get her two states over to start her new life, is on the fritz and stalling in the sweltering heat. With no cash to pay for the costly repairs, Phoebe would sooner take her chances and keep on driving than become a charity case for the hottie mechanic trying to keep her safe.

A retired Navy SEAL, Dane West refuses to let the weary submissive that’s putt-putted her way into his life leave his garage in the deathtrap she calls a car. It’s too hot and too dangerous for the stubborn beauty to be stranded on the side of a desolate highway, and he’ll be damned if another woman in his care gets hurt by his failure to act. When a small tug on an engine cable ensures her stay—at least temporarily, Dane shows the lovely Miss Morris just how good a little TLC (and BDSM) can feel.

Christ. I have got to learn to stop reading/listening when a book pisses me off. But no, the completist in me, wants to know if the story could possibly get better, and know the ending.

The writing is terribly clunky, emotions are written to be big! things! Yet the two narrators, who have good voices, both sounded detached and without any nuance. Ostensibly this is a Dom/sub story, with the hunky alpha male and the sassy sweet young thing, who has fallen on hard times and has a douche bag ex. The setup is one that can work really well for me, with the right author. Jackie Ashenden is the first one to come to mind as someone who writes alpha males and sweet young things and takes the tired trope and makes it fresh with snappy writing and nuanced characters.

Great starter story of two people attempting to break from their past either by running or helping another and in so doing come to terms with who they are. Can one find a new life in a small town after leaving the city? Can a Special Ops soldier overcome his shortcomings and build a new life with another? This story sets the stage in addressing these questions. While there may be commonly presented plotlines with foreseeable troubles one is drawn into the characters enough to see what will happen next. This is a good start to what i assume is/will be an enjoyable series. The performance of the narrators helped to add life to the author's well described words. I look forward to the rest of the series.

This was great! I have a few negatives but mostly positives. The progression was a little quick for me in the beginning, but I understand that that's due to it being such a short book, plus I'm personally a control freak and wouldn't be able to relax shall we say, as quickly as Phoebe did. There were also a very few minor typos, but that tends to happen with ebooks I've noticed. There were so many small things in this book that I really appreciated because I rarely if ever see them in sexy/smutty books. When they had sex it was shown that there were condoms involved without taking you out of the sexiness of the scene. There was clear consent before they did anything. This is where my previously stated control freak issues came up because personally I'd be setting the guy down for a full on conversation beforehand BUT i can realize that that's not necessary for everyone and consent was definitely made clear. I would have liked if he had made sure she had safewords but that didn't seem to pose a real problem. They have great communication, he always makes sure she's okay, she tells him any issues she has, etc. Amazing show of communication. This shows the importance of aftercare. This perfectly illustrates that in a D/s relationship the sub is the one actually in control and also the distinct difference between an abusive relationship and a D/s relationship, which some books don't do remotely well at all *cough* fifty shades *cough*. I really appreciate that he told her that he was on her computer and interacted with her ex, though I would have appreciated if he'd also told her about disabling her car, though I have a feeling he will in the next one.
Overall this was very well done and, as I said, has a lot of small things that make me very happy to read. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what happens in the next one!

This was a wildcard find - I'm not familiar with either authors, the plot caught my attention, so I thought "what the hell - I'll give it a read". I'm glad I did, I really enjoyed it. Now there is instalove/insta-attraction between the H and h, a D/s relationship (that's a little far fetched in how quickly it's formed), and a happy for now realistic ending (they don't ride off to go get hitched right away). This story was told, kind of, from a 3rd person perspective - which is new to me since 99% of what I read is dual or single POV's. But I really did enjoy the storyline's layout - this was different. The H was completely alpha and I loved the dirty talk - definitely get ready to take a cold shower after completing because damn. Just damn.

The only thing I find disappointing is the unavailability of the second book to this series. But this book alone is complete with no cliffhanger and it's a quick read

Retired Navy Seals always are the best alpha males and Dane fills this role unquestionably. Phoebe pulls into town, her pink cadillac not running properly. In walks hot mechanic Dane. There is something about the hotness of insta-love books that keeps a book going. Their relationship from the very start is explosive, not necessarily with sex, but their banter is both funny and entertaining. The story while short has a well developed storyline of Phoebe's past, her crazy ex and the introduction to Dane's BDSM lifestyle. A really fun listen!

You couldn't have a better narrator for this alpha male than La Petite Mort. His voice is warm and seductive creating that safe feeling for Phoebe. Ruby Rivers creates Phoebe with spunk and temptation. The perfect narrating team!

First chapter was spent with the 2 going back and forth about her car. To me, the whole thing felt like the flow wasn't right, so I quit.

First - did you see that cover? I mean really. Dayum. OK now to the story. Dane is a former Navy SEAL who does mechanics work. Phoebe is the down on her luck woman driving a pink car that is about to collapse. When Phoebe stops at his mechanics shop the sparks are all over the place. Dane convinces her that she should stay until her car gets fully fixed. She, of course, cannot afford it and doesn't want to. They strike a deal. Not for sex - get your mind out of the gutter. Once she is in close proximity though things get real hot real fast and her submissiveness to his dominance works well. Yes this is insta love so I took a star off as it wasn't that believable.

However - the dialogue is outstanding! Phoebe is hilarious and Dane's reactions to her are priceless. She says what she thinks completely and it keeps him on his toes. As for insta love - not so much BUT I could totally believe he could be very deeply in lust with her and that she could keep him entertained and happy for many years. The kink is lite but appropriate to the beginning of a relationship. Again it's short - so for those of you that hate insta love perhaps this isn't the best option. I just chose to go with the flow and enjoy the hell out of the conversations - and ignore that I doubt they'd be in love. HOT sex, great domination (not an asshole either!), and really superb dialogue that flows wonderfully and is funny make this one a standout in the short novella category!

I really wished it was longer. Phoebe is trying to make it to the next state or at least the next town. She has to find a job after her live in boyfriend kicked her out. Her car breaks down and the hottest mechanic ever, Dane lets her know she will not be going anywhere in her car. The sparks definitely fly in this read, especially when Dane gets the hot tempered Phoebe in bed and refuses to let her go. Phoebe just had to break down in a town who believes the woman is the submissive and the man rules the roost and their number one priority is pleasing their woman.
