Ever wondered why some people are just "Bad". In this book you will discover some well known characters and other obscure ones that can teach you life lessons for the 21st Century. This book will educate and inspire at the sometime!
Disappointing. Author's points were very elementary. Was looking to learn more about the bible not a lecture about the horrors of telling falsehoods or spoiling my child.
I wanted this to be an engaging look at ... well, bad girls in the Bible. I wanted witty prose and historical fact, not Bible quotes in lieu of the author's own words.
Yes, it's about people in the Christian Bible, but I didn't want it to be so in-your-face religious. Also, while I understand some quoting is necessary, I felt the author cited too much and didn't let his own words and thoughts come through. For that, I could've just read the Bible itself, you know?
And I say this as an avid fan of historical nonfiction about Biblical times and people. I just wanted more from this book.
I thought the author had some very good points, and I liked how he applied each of the lessons to today's living. But I felt the writing was rough in several places.
All the stories she wrote about women in our world were so interesting I was disappointed when she compared them to the girls in the bible. I wanted more of their stories. Don't agree with all of her points, but I did find it an interesting read.
None of these ladies are "unknowns," but their stories are not often at the forefront of Bible Study teaching or Sunday School education. Reading the stories from this perspective was new, and very relevant. It gave me the ability to hold a mirror to my own life as well as a looking glass to the lives of those I choose to allow in my life. Our life choices, as women, have far and reaching consequences, and this book shares many of them in a manner that is relatable and understandable.
This is a great and insightful read / case study into the lives of 7 of the baddest girls recorded in The Bible. This book is perfect for anyone who is studying The Bible. And works perfectly for a Bible Study.
Disappointing presentation. Was looking forward to some storytelling but got quoted Bible passages instead. Felt like I was reading an essay which made this so boring!
Learned some new tidbits about "bad girls" in the Bible, but wasn't expecting the low-level preaching. Still going to make my way through the companion volume on Biblical bad boys, though.
I got a free pdf copy of the book from the author for my honest review. I first have to say that it was a great idea for a book. I learned about a few characters I was previously unfamiliar with, which was a good point. There were some good references and correlations or lessons we can use to apply to modern times, but as a whole the book was very short with brief details and scriptural references. I would have enjoyed it more if a little more 'story' went into each of the women written about. I would have liked to get to know the story behind each person better, not just bullet points of information about them followed by brief points about why each woman made the list and finally a few points on how we can learn from each woman's evil mistakes and intents. In all, some good lessons could be learned and if nothing else, I am curious to read about them in the Bible on my own now.
The title is catchy and the cover is beautiful. I would have liked to have seen some kind of order in the reviews: from Genesis to Judges to Kings to Mark to Revelation, or in whatever order of badness the author thought the women should be placed.
Each woman had a sizable section on what they could teach us in the 20th (well, now the 21st) century, so maybe a more appropriate title would have been Lessons for Our Time from the Seven Baddest Girls in the Bible or something similar.
And it could have been the e-book format that I read and the inability to flip back or forward several pages at a time, but I did not find a logical progression in the book, but that it jumped around and was a little hard to follow.
Nonetheless, it is an intriguing premise for a book. If there is a 2nd or revised edition forthcoming, I would certainly give it a look.
This was a very quick read. I won't say I didn't learn something because this did better familiarize me with some stories, but I found it super cheesy. It's sort of structured like a bible study with "what did we learn" points and brief discussion. I just found it very pat and cheesy. Too many exclamation points. Too many simplistic statements just to fill up space.
The only reason this book doesn't have 1 star is because the topic is sound. The editing and formatting are TERRIBLE! The author uses commas and semicolons interchangeably and incorrectly. The tone of writing is terrible. "What do you think happens? Well, she got..." etc.
I almost stopped, but curiosity kept me going. Do not recommend this.
Short and dry. Instead of colorfully retelling stories, the author just quoted Scripture. Used lots of bullet points to present the "lessons". It seemed like the author just wanted to write a book and write it as quickly as possible. At least I learned about a couple of news faces from the book!
I liked it. There were a couple of women in there I'd never heard of. Boy these gals were truely bad. Hey, what about a good girls of the bible like Ruth, Ester and more? There are lessons there too to learn from.
A look at some of the most notorious women of the Bible and what their stories can teach us. There are other books by other authors in publication that handle this topic better. It was an ok read.
Not as good as the book by Higgs of a similar title, but it was good and included a few women of the Bible I hadn't thought of in that context before. Not bad, but Higgs' was better.
