The Sound and the Fury, William Faulkner

Rate this book
What if you could experience the collapse of a once-great Southern family — not from the outside, but from inside their fractured minds? The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner is a groundbreaking masterpiece that pulls readers deep into the emotional ruins of the Compson family in the American South. Told through multiple perspectives — including a cognitively disabled man, a suicidal Harvard student, and a bitter, angry brother — this novel challenges how stories are told and redefines modern fiction. Dark, poetic, and emotionally raw, The Sound and the Fury is not just a novel — it's an experience. A puzzle. A psychological storm. If you love layered storytelling, unreliable narrators, and bold literary innovation, this is the book that changed American literature forever.

I sorry William Faulker, but I can't follow your story. The new technique of announcing a character after they said a sentence, or exhaled, or thought, or rolled their eyes is confusing. And heaven forbid a new character is brought into the scene because now you have a monolog that take 10 pages instead of 2. I kept going thinking, ok this will get better.

Perhaps I need to put it down and come back again later. Currently 1 star, however perhaps after more research on this book I will have a different perspective and an open mind.
