The book takes readers behind the locked gates and inside the bedrooms of more than 500 celebrity homes from Bob Hope, Elizabeth Taylor, and Frank Sinatra to Suzanne Somers.
A book I had been searching for, known as the bible for information on Palm Springs.
A book filled with celebrity names, their homes, their lives.
This is an enormously detailed reference to the great heyday of the film business.
A star-studded guided tour of Palm Springs, California, where some of Hollywood's best-loved movie stars have lived and died. It lifts the lid on the secret lives of the rich and famous individuals who have resided in this world-renowned tourist resort during the last century.
Great reading just after finishing Old Blue Eyes, by Barbara Sinatra, a great book which often references the life and times in Palm Springs.
Filled with so many great names, many I did not know, but of course so many great names like Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, William Bendix, Liberace, Kirk Douglas, William Holden, Debbie Reynolds, Chuck Conners, Elvis Presley, Cary Grant, Suzanne Somers, Marilyn Monroe, and many many more.
It was the playground of the rich, but also had a dark side to the gay scene, gangster, and much more the highly publicised murders, burglaries and much more.
Very richly illustrated with a journey of history, enormous and beautiful homes, will I enjoy watching on you tube videos, with very famous architect built houses.
A perfect book for me, mention the old stars, the new stars, show me their beautiful houses, I am happy. This book invites you into their lives for a while.
Dreadful tabloid-level writing without even the titillation and absurdly flamboyant half-truths and lies of a good tabloid. The result is dull boredom, with irrelevant and uninteresting tidbits about minor "stars" and, even worse, very little about the houses and neighborhoods they lived in.
Well-researched book concerning Palm Springs and its' development as it relates primarily to the Hollywood celebrities who have lived there and have had homes in the area. A bit gossipy and sensationalistic with some comments regarding certain minor celebrities. I appreciated the discussion about the history of the homes and the designs, specifically the mid-century modern.
