Ok, so plot and charactisation is somewhat lacking but for the sheer joy of unexpected twists and surprises this book has it!

Thank you Nerd Girl Nation, and the post on the origin of Goodbye, specifically it's roots in the some chilled as 16th cent dude who shortened 'god be with ye' t0 the much more quicker 'god b w ye' leading to godbwye and goodbye and also to me remembering the fun of etymology :D
