Fredric has found his mate, but he’s completely perplexed. His mate is not only a man, but also a half-demon. Fredric cannot believe the gods have done this to him. On top of this odd turn of events, Fredric is suffering from the Dissolution, a vampire disease with no cure. He knows accepting Satoru as his mate and taking his blood increases his chances of survival, yet he keeps fighting his fate, even as Satoru becomes more appealing with each encounter.
Satoru refuses to give up, and with each passing day, Fredric becomes less resistant. Fredric first agrees to drink Satoru’s blood, and then he accepts Satoru as a lover. But as time runs out and other troubles come, will Satoru be able to save his lover’s life and truly win his heart?
This third installment of the "fantasy vampire" world with a feudal structure where vampires hold the power, demons are despised, and priests are the last defense against evil, tells the story of the third vampire prince, Fredric, and Satoru, a half-demon human priest. They are so clearly destined to be together, they should fall into each other's arms and be done with it. Unfortunately, that isn’t the way it works for them. Fredric is resolute not to bond with a demon, as he hates them with a passion, and besides, he wants a female mate so he can have children. Satoru is more stubborn than should be allowed, but he will need every ounce of determination he can dig up if he wants to make sure Fate has a chance despite Fredric's objections. Their basic conflict of opposing world views was already set up at the end of the previous book, but it comes into full bloom in this volume. Hold onto your hats, this is one wild ride!
Fredric is a very hard nut to crack. All he can think of are all the reasons he doesn’t want to love Satoru. He can feel the pull, the need to be with him, but he cruelly ignores it. Even when he realizes Satoru's blood is what can heal his illness, he still pushes him away. And when Satoru tells him he is in love, Fredric denies him any sort of intimacy. At first. I loved how all his emotional walls slowly crumbled, how he found out it was harder to resists love than he thought, and even though he only gives in physically, at first, emotional surrender isn’t far off.
Satoru has the patience of a saint and the determination of three men. He also knows he loves Fredric, and is such a giving soul that he continues to love his mate even though Fredric tells him he'll never reciprocate. When disaster hits, in the form of Satoru's demon father revealing some truly nefarious plans, Satoru is rendered almost helpless by the demon's magic. Satoru will need every ounce of fighting spirit and love for Frederic to make it out of this trap!
This third book of the series is a mix between the very emotional love story in the first volume, and the much bloodier proceedings in the second. The initial total confrontation between Fredric and Satoru provides a built-in conflict for them to overcome, followed straight away with a test of their love - even though Fredric still denies his feelings for a long time. It makes for an explosive mix full of passion and adventure.
If you like stories about slightly different vampires, if you enjoy one male fighting to deny his feelings while the other just loves him anyway, and if you're looking for a story full of passion and an intense battle against an evil demon, then you will probably like this short story.

3.5 stars. Enjoyable read. Set in the year 3150. Human Vampire Demon. Satoru is a Human-Demon Priest and Fredric is a Vampire Prince. Tho set in the future, its kind of like living in the olden days with no technology.
First Re-read 31 December 2017 This was my favorite the first time through these series, and it was again. I loved seeing more of this world and getting a first glimpse of the shifters that also live there.
And Satoru really is one of my favorite characters from all of these books. He's just delightful.
Some Favorite Quotes: The stirrings in his heart told him that the circumstances of his life had led him to Fredric.
"Love is a holy thing."
"The gods have always smiled on you, even when it seemed they weren't."
"Love heals. Transforms. It is more powerful than anything."
Original Review 20 March 2014 This review is for both this series and The Wolf's Mate series.
There's no logic to it, but I found myself just completely enjoying these books. The conversations are ridiculously stilted, the characters are too perfect, the relationships are all basically insta-love, and the plots are all simplistic and similar. But they were so fun to read!
It may have to do with my life being all kinds of stressful and crazy the last few months, but getting to read these books was absolutely my guilty pleasure. It was so nice to get to sink into a world where the good guys win, mates are fated, and all harms are redressed or compensated for.
I also enjoyed the setting. It's on a different world, set in the future, but in a society that's very much pre-industrial. Vampires are the nobility in this society, and each vampire has a "fated mate" that he or she will recognize once they taste that person's blood. The mate doesn't have to choose them back, though, which I thought was intriguing, but was only explored in minor characters.
There are also many different species of shifter (wolf, fox, dragon, and tiger at least) and demons on this world.
I enjoyed that the characters in each story are inter-connected. It was fun getting to see how the characters I'd grown to love in previous stories were getting on.
Review Written for http://mmgoodbookreviews.wordpress.com/ Frederic is a vampire and has a disease called the dissolution, He has met his mate but his mate is a male priest and half-demon. Three strikes. Satoru a priest and half demon refuses to give up on trying to save Frederic. This was one heck of a story and for some reason I picked up yet another series on book 3 seems to be my lucky number. If you didn’t know this was part of a series you’d never guess it stands alone that well. I will be getting the other two soon though. These are such a unique take on mates, the resistance by one and fight and what the other had to give up was fabulous. The tension was nail-biting the sex hot and the plot interesting. I recommend this to anyone that likes Vampires, demons mate bonds and hot mansex
I really enjoyed this book - even when Fredric was being a jerk, you could see him slowly softening. Satoru was irresistible, and although it took some time, his determination was enough to win the day.
Satoru needs to come back. he's a great character. epilogue makes it sound like there will be more. Fredric's stubbornness frustrated me, but changing your beliefs is hard and I don't like "insta-love" asmuch as I used to, so it kept things interesting
I'm curious to see where the series will go next now that the three brothers have all been mated. I'm thinking side characters like the priest brothers from this third installment... but whatever it is it will be great I'm sure!
