Motive: To Protect Her Son

Everyone around Abby Connor believed she was guilty of killing her ex-husband. Now even she wasn't certain of her own innocence - or her sanity. She'd lost chunks of time, botched simple tasks, misplaced things... Could she have committed the murder out of fierce motherly instinct - and forgotten it?

Making matters worse was the new ranch hand who signed on the day of the murder. Luke Black evoked within Abby primitive yearnings she couldn't deny. But though his sexy swagger was all cowboy, his shiny boots hadn't seen a day's work. Who was this man, and what was he doing on her ranch?

Abby Connor is running her family's ranch. She is divorced. She has a young son, and 2 younger sisters depending on the ranch supporting them. One sister is newly married and off on a 1 month honeymoon.
Greg Foxwood (her ex) comes back to town. He surprises her in a local diner demanding access to his son, or he'll just take him. She understandably gets very angry and loud. Everyone hears her threatening to kill him. She wasn't serious of course. She is too upset to go home. She drives out to a scenic area to try and calm down. She falls asleep. When she returns home it's to find out Greg is dead and she is the #1 suspect. Things are very strange. Credit is denied her for lack of paying her bills. She knows she paid them. Checks are missing from her check book. She wakes up sleeping in her yard.
Luke Black is a new ranch hand. He seems at first to hate her, but then slowly to warm to her. One night he finds her talking crazy and in the top of a tree. He gets her to come down and takes her to her bed. He sleeps in her room to make sure she is OK.
2 attempts are made on her life at the ranch. After becoming romantically and sexually involved with Luke he finally tells her the truth. He's Greg's brother. Several men are out to buy the ranch out from under her. What better way than to send her to prison? One by one her ranch hands are hired by one of the wanna be buyers of her ranch.
Is there anyone she can trust?

After reading the blurbs (heroine is accused of murder, she thinks she is going crazy, it looks like her family is going to lose the ranch) I decided not to put myself through it. Just read the last few chapters.

Excellent book. Read it in a few hours because I couldn't put it down. A must read if you enjoy suspense with some romance.
