If you have ever heard yourself say, “Surely there is more to life than this,” rest assured, you are not alone. Getting caught up in the day-to-day routine, it can be easy to feel as though you have nothing more to give, and yet there is so much you want to do to impact the world. Good news! For those who are willing to get out of the proverbial boat and trust in God’s ability to do miracles, there is more, so much more!
In Willing to Walk on Water , Caroline Barnett helps you identify what you were created to do―unveiling your passions, gifts, and callings―and provides practical ways of integrating that purpose into your daily life. Drawing on real life experiences, Caroline points out two things that will be willingness and availability. Are you willing to trust God to do the impossible through you? Will you make yourself available to His leading? If so, get ready―you are about to walk on water !
Every now and then, you read a book that reaches out and strikes a chord with you. For me, this is that book.
"Willing to Walk on Water" is a book full of testimonies and stories of how God will use you if you are brave enough to step out and follow Him. It is a prompting to search your heart for the areas of life that you find unjust, such as homelessness, orphans, human trafficking, and the list goes on. Once you discover them, it is a call to action and a guide to make a difference in your life and the lives of the people you are serving.
I feel like I have been both challenged and empowered. This book has changed my life and I believe every follower of Jesus should read it.
Love Caroline Barnett's heart. She's an amazing woman of God. This book literally helps you in stepping out of your comfort zone, and makes you realize how important you are in making this world a better place.
Usually when I write a review I write about the book and then I write about my view of the book (what I like or don’t like about it). Today I’m going to do this a little differently. Today I want to introduce you to the author of the book before discussing the book. The reason for this is because Caroline shares a lot about her life in the book and the church that she and her husband minister to.
Caroline Barnett is married to the founder of the Dream Center in LA Matthew Barnett. She has a passion for inspiring women to find their God-given cause. She and her husband minister to thousands of people at the Dream Center through a wide range of outreach ministries—from a food truck ministry (which she started) to Project Prevention, which is a program designed to help impoverished families stay together.
In Willing to Walk on Water, Caroline talks about how each of us has a God-given purpose and how our purpose can best be found we are using our talents and our passions to serve the people around us and work to make our world a better place. She shares how through her experiences at the Dream Center God has not only changed her and her life, but how He has worked through her and others at the Dream Center to change the lives of thousands. She shares how even when we feel unworthy or when things seem impossible if we simply step out and trust God He can work miracles in our lives.
I loved this book! Caroline’s stories of people at the Dream Center and their lives had me laughing and crying, but even more they moved me, they stirred in me a desire to go and serve. I can quote Bible verses about how we are supposed to go out and share the Gospel and serve those in need, but so many times I hold back from fear. This book has reminded me that I have a calling and that calling is to serve others, and I have to give that fear to God and step out of the boat. I have to be willing to “Walk on Water” and do what the Lord is calling me to do.
Willing to Walk on Water is an inspirational read that compels you to step out of your comfort zone and start serving others. The author uses true stories from herself, her family, volunteers that help at the Dream Center, and those that they have helped to explain the importance of serving others from a Biblical perspective. She starts by telling her own story of how she started serving others at the Dream Center and how her service has affected her spiritually as well as how the service has changed others’ lives. She then describes how to find what breaks your heart and what to do to be a part of the solution. This book gives practical advice on how we can serve God by serving others and what steps we can take to use our God-given gifts, talents, passions, and skills to serve God by serving others. The author also stresses that if we obey God in how He wants us to serve others and live our lives, then we will live richer, fuller, more satisfying lives and that we will grow closer to Him. If we are willing to serve God and obey His purpose for our lives, then He will bring about the dream He has placed in our hearts. The author also explains that it will not always be easy and we will face discouraging times, but when those times occur, if we continue to trust and obey God, He will work everything out as He has planned. While reading this book, I felt pretty convicted because I know I am not doing all that I should to serve others and I have a tendency to make excuses for why I am not. After reading this book, I have come to the conclusion that I need to discover what my trigger is, how God wants to use me for others, and then get out of my comfort zone and into the water. This is a book that I think every Christian should read-it is certainly a good eye-opener and encouraging to start doing what God has placed Christians to do in this world, which is to serve and help win souls for His kingdom.
Willing To Walk On Water not only recounts areas of service ministry Caroline Barnett has been involved with though the Dream Center of Los Angeles, but also has short stories of others who have had their lives changed with the ministries they began or took part in. This is about overcoming your fear of failure, and other stumbling blocks, but rely on knowing that the best place to be is within the will of God. She calls for you to consider what you are most passionate about and how you can step out in faith, and make a difference. If God has placed this on your heart, He will walk with you as serve Him through serving others.
One thing I appreciated is that she mentions several things people can do, no matter what their circumstances are. Too often I hear people make suggestions of small sacrifices you can make such as giving up one cup of coffee a day or a meal out and donating that money to a cause---those things aren't part of my life so I don't have them to give up. However, I can spend time or do an act of kindness to someone. As she states in the book, every act of obedience to God makes a difference. The important thing is to step out and trust God.
I really enjoyed the book. The focus on ministering to the needs of people is one that is dear to me, so this book may encourage you to step out...or give you something to think about. We are becoming more sharply divided, as a nation, on poverty and the methods of dealing with it. When you look at the problem as a whole, it can be overwhelming; Caroline has written a reminder of what a difference a small thing can be when all is entrusted to Jesus. I give it a 4.5 stars.

What a motivating book which opened my eyes to so many possibilities of different ways to serve God. A person does not need to take on a huge project in order to serve God, they can start out small and work their way up. Caroline’s book, Willing to Walk on Water, is an inspiration to me in stepping out of my own boat. I was amazed to see so many things about herself were so similar my own self. It was like seeing a faith-filled courageous side of myself. My eyes were glued to each and every page.
In addition to Caroline’s experiences, her book holds so many experiences of other people as well. These experiences describe how God directed each one into a life of serving Him and others. Mixed in with the experiences is related scripture that leads us back to the one we are to focus on in all of our circumstances. The scripture allows ourselves to be seen in a new way which relates our own duty to serve with that of the people within the Bible.
I highly recommend this book to all who may be unsure about taking that first step out of the boat and to those who have took the step out (reminding them why they did).

Willing to Walk on Water by Caroline Barnett is about learning to step out of our comfort zone and let God work through us. She uses her experiences from the Dream Center to explain how helping others changed her life. She wants to help you find the one thing in this world that you just cannot stand to see happen anymore. In the book, she calls this your “trigger”. All you need to be able to walk on water and let God use you is a willing heart.
I absolutely loved this book! It is very eye opening as it talks about the many injustices of our world today. This book will inspire you to want to step out in faith and let God use you in anyway that He can to help serve others. God can use you as long as you are willing and this book will equip you to start doing just that. It is full of countless stories of people from the Dream Center and how serving there has changed their lives. Very inspiring and I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to make a difference.
I received a copy of Willing to Walk on Water by Caroline Barnett from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for my honest review of the book.
Would you be willing to walk on water if Jesus called you? I'm not taking calm and shallow waters. I'm talking rough and roaring waters where you can't see the bottom.
As much as I'd like to say "I'll go first," I would probably say so praying that someone would insist that they'd go first. But there's something about taking that step of faith. Sure it's scary. Sure there are some unknowns. But there is one thing you can be certain of: If God calls you, He is with you and His plans are greater than your best plan any day in every way.
What I love about this book is that it's a "by example" book. This is not someone talking down at us but rather a girlfriend who is sharing the adventures, the thrills, the hesitations that go along with living a life of faith. Caroline Barnett lives by example, leads by example, and most importantly, she shows us how to love God and love others...by example.
As Judah Smith once said, "God is able. Are you available?"
Willing To Walk On Water, by Caroline Barnett, is separated into three parts: DISCOVERING, CONQUERING, and DOING. Discover where and how you can help others, conquer your fears and insecurities, and do it—make an impact!
Ms. Barnett shares both her own experiences and of others committed to serving people in need. By incorporating these ideas into our daily walk, we can do the same.
We need to be obedient, to take a step of faith (just as Peter took a step out onto the water) and to make an impact in others’ lives. We can’t change the entire world, but every step we take makes a difference, and it matters to God.
We must be willing to step out in faith, to be obedient, confident, and motivated. Even one step makes a difference, and will matter to God. This is an inspiring and encouraging book that stirs an eagerness to help others.
"Willing to Walk on Water", by Caroline Barnett, is a book about stepping out in faith and trusting in God to work in you and through you in your Christian walk. To allow you to not only to be leaders, but to be servers as well.
Remembering, how Great God is in our lives and the gift of Love that He has given to each and everyone of us. Trusting God with our lives knowing that He knows what is best for us and in what direction he guides us in the good, bad, and ugly.
This is a "Wow" book for me! It changed my outlook on serving. It is a gift to serve, than a chore. It can transform you and change your life forward. I recommend this book to everyone!!!
I picked this book up off a recommendation not knowing it was religious. My review might not be fair because of that but here it is. I appreciated the examples used of real life situations. To me they were interesting and I can take the message from the examples for what they were. I struggle with the reference to God over and over again but like I said, I'm not religious. The authors words were impactful though. No matter what you believe in, we all know the power of giving and that was the main message of this book.
Encouraged. If I had to describe this book in one word.
I enjoyed reading the true life stories about those who are serving in the inner city of Los Angeles. It has inspired me to expand the kingdom of God in a very real and practical way.
Willing to Walk on Water is profound.
I highly suggest all people read this book and get inspired to change the world starting in their own backyard.
Author Caroline Barnett challenges each of us serve humanity. She convincingly explains that all of us have been given talents and that there are needs out there that speak to our hearts and are calling for our help. A wonderful book for anyone who feels a need to give more to the suffering of our world but needs some emcoragement. I loved this book!
Caroline Barnett, wife of Matthew Barnett founder of the Dream Center in Los Angeles, has written a challenge to all of us to step out in faith. The book is well written and will inspire you to do more for God. I won Willing to Walk on Water in a Anna Weaver giveaway.
This book was so fun, encouraging, and inspirational for me! It reminded me that God has ministry opportunities everywhere for us, and we just need to be willing to be used by Him. He will provide the means to accomplish what He wants us to do.
Willing to Walk on Water was a wonderful book that I enjoyed reading this summer. I’m glad that I picked it up and will probably pick it up and read it again later. A inspiring read.
